FROM GLORIA LIU/STEM NEWS

• The Conference to Promote STEM for educators will be held on Fri., Nov. 6. Attendance at this conference is a great opportunity for professional development (continued eligibility)

• We are still offering STEM research classes for students (BIO/CHM 240, STEM 200)

• The Foundation Grant sponsoring Summer Research Internships was renewed (for certain BIO/CHM 240 students).

• There will still be a STEM Students Symposium at the end of the term for all fall research students (Dec. 8, 9 at 2:30 pm, tentative)

• The Foundation Grant for supporting STEM 200 students was not renewed (so the student research internship stipends are no longer available)

COPYING REMINDERS

• Large copy jobs should NOT be completed on the copiers in the SHC. Since the move to the new building the number of copies made on the copiers in the Division 1 office and on the second floor has gone up drastically.

• Please email all copy jobs to copy center 48 hours in advance.

• Presidential Inauguration: Friday, October 30th

Classes will be cancelled until 5pm

NEW SUB PROCESS

• Your Chair/Coordinator will send an email asking individuals to indicate if they are willing to sub in the upcoming semester.

• Chair/Coordinator will forward your name to Division 1 Office Staff who will then complete a Multiple Position Form up front. They will lock in a specific LHE amount (e.g. 0.5 LHE). NOTE: rate = 0.029 LHE/academic hour 0.5 LHE = 17 hrs!

• When you sub, you will complete a sub form with the course, date and times you subbed. Send this form to your Chair/Coordinator for verification. They will send form to Division 1 office staff.

PREGNANCY ACCOMMODATIONS

• Title IX• Recommended syllabus statement: “If you are

pregnant or become pregnant during the semester, you have the option to meet with me to discuss accommodations that may be necessary. It may not be possible to grant accommodations after the fact, so it is better to prepare in advance for any possible scenarios.”

MEETING ATTENDANCE COMMITMENT (OPTIONAL)

• An adjunct faculty member must commit to attending a minimum of 66% (6 of 9) of the meetings in a semester. The adjunct will be paid .25 LHE for meeting attendance including one 1.25 hours orientation week department meeting and eight (8) department and division meetings per semester.

1) If you do not choose to sign the commitment form, you will still get paid for the Orientation Week meeting at 0.022 LHE per hour.

2) If you do sign the commitment form, you will not get paid separately for the Orientation Week meeting.
