8-9 January Promoting Sustainable Finance
The adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development marks a historical international commitment to the objective of a more sustainable economy and society. How to mobilise the necessary financing for green and sustainable investments? The conference on "Promoting Sustainable Finance" aimed to provide answers to this question. The two-day event allowed researchers to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge between academics, professionals and policy makers.

14 January-4 February Web Conference on Land Degradation and Restoration Knowledge Gaps and Needs
This 3-week Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) web conference was an open forum that brought together governments, experts, and other stakeholders to review and further explore knowledge gaps and discuss knowledge needs and priorities regarding land degradation and restoration.

24 January Smart Specialisation: monitoring and evaluation State of the play and next steps
As the end of the programming period approaches, it is time to debate on the state of the art of monitoring activities and how to test Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3).
Throughout the years, the JRC has developed a solid framework for monitoring, in response of a very strong demand from national and regional authorities. To address these aspects, this workshop aimed at building a space for communication between researchers and practitioners, based on shared empirical and conceptual ground.

31 January Peer eXchange and Learning (PXL) workshop on governance of the Smart Specialisation Strategies
The JRC-managed Smart Specialisation Platform organised a workshop on governance of the Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) built on the peer-review method. It invites EU countries and regions to reflect on the institutional conditions, procedures and methods for the design and implementation of RIS3. During this workshop, Östergötland (Sweden), North Karelia (Finland) and Nord-Vest (Romania) presented their experiences regarding S3 governance. The presentations were followed by a discussion on key questions, issues and challenges proposed by the partners under review.
