STEAM Summer Camp 2019

Mythological Heroes_June 10-14 What’s inside Pandora’s Box? Come explore with us and build your own trick box that Pandora can’t open.

Stay ahead of the storm as we learn about Poseidon and hurricanes utilizing online simulations and begin

tracking those storms early in the season. Learn to write in Greek, make a Medusa headband, or even a Roman

helmet. Participate in Olympic type games and light up the night with your own constellation in a jar or model

to hang in your room. Take a picture of one of our animals on campus and photoshop it into your own

mythological creature, maybe even creating a hero of your own to save the day.

Comic & Book Heroes _June 17-21 It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s... our favorite hero from the written word. Design the fastest batmobile that can also

fly and float. Use Makey Makeys to design your own gadget like Rocket and Ironman. Enjoy a potions class

like Harry Potter or disguise yourself like Peta. Learn Claymation as you design your own heroes and make

them come to life. This is the time to let the engineer in you soar to new heights.

Heroes of Today_June 24-28 Did you say zero waste? Our planet needs help and it’s going to take a group of heroes to literally save the day.

Get ready to experiment with all the things you can create using upcycling. Build your own wind turbine and eat

a sweet treat made in a solar oven. Compete with other groups in our zero waste contest and create a

commercial promoting ways we can all be Earth friendly. Learn a little about Steam Punk and make a creation

of your own using recycled materials.

Game Changers_July 8-12 Who is Caine and how did he rock the world? Learn about Caine and his cardboard arcade, then build your

own game to feature in our Game Day. Use Makey Makeys and build a controller for one of your favorite

computer games and explore the physics that make games possible. Spend some time designing your own

computer game and learn to code it into action.

Inspiring Careers_July 15-19 What’s for dinner? Experience the satisfaction of tasting something you made or helping design ways to

brighten up a room. Learn about sports medicine and how to sew up a wound, along with some basic first aid.

Explore the plants and animals at Clint Small and build your own herb garden to take home. Build an

Earthquake-Proof Skyscraper and test your designs. This week you get to be a Chef, Architect, Doctor, Artists,

and Scientists.

1st and 2nd Graders will participate in some of the above activities as appropriate. Younger campers will

participate in Arts and Crafts/MakerSpace, Crazy Science, Games and Rec., Computer Lab (using microbits,

Makey Makeys, Dash/Dot Robots) Engineering Challenges/Destination Imagination activities, Lego Lab and

much more on a weekly basis and they will receive a 3rd snack each day. Please check our website for more

information about camp activities for our newest campers.

Each week will include a swimming trip to Deep Eddy Municipal Pool and time to interact with the animals.

Camp registration fee includes two snacks each day and a hot lunch served in the school cafeteria. Campers

may always bring lunch and/or snack from home. Each week will include a fun field trip listed on the first page.
