DATES TO REMEMBER
PRINCIPALS REPORT
VISITING EDUCATORS
Last week we had a number of
teachers from Good Samaritan
Catholic School visit us to
observe our teaching practices
and planning sessions. Our staff
willingly had their classroom
practices observed and later
discussed these during a
planning meeting.
The teachers from the visiting
school were very impressed
with the level of rigor applied
and expected in the classrooms
they visited. The language
being built upon in classrooms
was identified as a positive
observation and the visiting
staff were impressed with the
use of correct and technical
language being used by the
students.
We are proud of the teaching
and learning taking place in and
around our classrooms. We are
ensuring we are remaining
abreast of best, evidenced
based practices and believe
everyone at RHPS is a learner.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
COMMUNITIES (PLC)
We have a number of staff
attending training sessions
regarding a state-wide initiative
titled “Professional Learning
Communities.” Staff attending
are required to participate in
interactive learning sessions,
complete professional reading
and identify an area for analysis
to improve student outcomes.
The teachers are working on a
joint project requiring them to
analyse student data, reflect on
their teaching and measure
improvements in student data.
This cycle of inquiring has been
in place at RHPS this year, even
though the formal professional
learning is only taking place
now. Our staff have been
proud to be ahead of
expectations and informed and
reflective of their practice. Well
done to all RHPS staff.
INFORMATION from DET re
PLCs
Over the next four years more
than 800 government schools
will receive intensive
implementation support that
includes a comprehensive
program of professional
learning and expert advice from
regionally-based teams.
These teams, made up
of experienced educators
including a dedicated PLC
regional manager, advise, coach
and train school and
instructional leaders in all
aspects of PLC implementation,
including:
budget and resource
prioritisation
meeting facilitation
inquiry-based
improvement
Curriculum and
assessment
data interpretation and
analysis.
Victorian PLC schools have
access to a continuous
stream of data about the
impact of PLC implementation
on teacher practice and student
perception.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
HIGHLIGHTED AT RHPS
Please see wonderful examples
of teaching and learning and
events showcasing this to the
broader community, within this
newsletter. We have students
go on excursions to further
their learning, we have our
Science Week and Science Fair
coming up for all to celebrate
and more events and
showcases will be held
throughout the year.
Yours in learning
Julie Lowerson

Premiers’ Reading Challenge update
The aim of the Premiers’ Reading Challenge is to promote and instil a love of reading in our students.
It’s not a competition but a challenge for each student to read more and to read more widely.
Roxburgh Homestead Primary School currently has 141 students registered for the challenge.
Well done to the students who are currently taking part in the challenge and a big congratulations to the
17 students who have already met the challenge for 2019!
Challenge requirements:
There are more than 1200 titles on the challenge booklist! You can access these lists at the following website https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/events/prc/Pages/booklist.aspx#link74. In order to meet the challenge students from F-2 need to read or experience 30 books during this period.
Students from 3-6 must read 15 books during this period.
The challenge will run until the 6th of September so keep entering your books up until this time using the website https://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/Challenger/WebLogin.aspx.
It’s not too late to register!
Spare forms are in the office along with a helpful guide on reading with your children. You can access this
guide via our school website, on the external links section called Literacy and Numeracy Tips.
If you have any further questions regarding the Premiers’ Reading Challenge, please see your child’s
classroom teacher.
Where to get books for the Challenge
You should be able to find many suitable books in your school or local library. You may have books at home that you can add to your children’s reading lists. Remember too that you can add books that are not listed on the challenge book list - these can be added as personal choice books. To assist our junior members and their parent/guardian, books within the collection which are listed on the PRC are tagged and searchable under Premiers' Reading Challenge and the year categories.
