To convert a number from scientific notation into a decimal remember:

Move the decimal the number of spaces equal to the exponent over ten.

If it is a positive exponent, move it to the right to make it a large number.

• Multiply the decimals normally• Add the exponents of 10

• Divide the decimals normally• Subtract the denominator’s exponent of 10

from the numerator’s exponent

When adding or subtracting numbers in scientific notation…..

Both numbers must first have the same exponent of 10.

280 x 10³ + 1.5 x 10³=

Then you subtract or add the decimals normally and keep the exponent of 10 the same.

281.5 x 10³ or 2.815 x 10⁵

if you type them in scientific notation, or use the trick below.
