ZONE PUBLIC SPEAKING RESULTS On Wednesday 14 August eight Scone Public School students went down to Muswellbrook South Public School to participate in the Zone Public Speaking competition. The hall was filled with lots of people and it was very nerve-wracking! Everyone tried their best and had a great time. Congratulations to Toby in Stage 1 and Adelaide in Stage 2 who both came runners up in a field of approximately fourteen other outstanding students in each section. Well done also to fellow Scone Public School entrants; Jackson and Ava in Early Stage One, Nathaniel in Stage 1, Lacey in Stage 2 and Hallie and Charesse in Stage 3. Many thanks to parents who transported their child to this event.
Adelaide and Lacey Stage 2 competitors
Last week I went to Muswellbrook South Public School to present my speech for the zone competition. My speech was titled, “Redheads” and I tied for first place but because the other boy’s time was closer to two minutes, he won and I was runner up. I got a medal and a certificate. I felt good and awesome because I like making people laugh. Humour is my top character strength.

ZONE ALTHETICS On Wednesday 7 August, 52 students attended the Zone Athletics in Singleton. The students faced very windy weather conditions. However, their effort and behaviour on the day is to be commended. Thank you to all the parents who transported their children to the event and a special thanks to those who transported other children. Hunter Athletics will be held at Glendale in Newcastle on the 30 August and we are proud to announce that 10 of our students have qualified for Hunter.

THE STRENGTH-BASED PARENTING ONLINE COURSE
Last week Professor Lea Waters visited the Upper Hunter to launch her Strength Switch Project. She spoke about her theory of strength based parenting and her experiences as a mother of two raising children in today’s society. Professor Lea Waters is offering our community the opportunity to take part in this program which covers the elements below. If you would like to participate, please call our school to put your name on the list.
What your family will learn and experience
• Help you find a new and positive way of seeing the qualities and talents in each other. • Create an energizing and fun approach to parenting and family communication. • Give you a lens to understand the perspectives and motivations of other family members. • Provide ways to uncover new strengths in each family member that you may not have seen before. • Foster a bonding family approach that builds warmth, trust and happiness.
This course, is made up of three face to face sessions and some online learning.

P AND C NEWS
BLOOM IS BACK FOR 2019 - SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• The warmer weather and longer days will be upon us, so we are planning a Christmas-themed twilight market.
• Planning is well underway but we really do need your support. • The last few years have seen our markets get bigger and better! This is fantastic because Bloom is
the major annual fundraiser for our school - but it also means that we need more help to organise and run the markets.
• Last year’s market provided us with the funds to engage Lex James, who painted our awesome
playground art. This year, funds raised will be used to purchase Interactive Touch Tables for our school library and our special needs classroom.
HOW YOU CAN HELP • We are looking for parents who want to get involved by helping us co-ordinate and decorate the
stalls allocated to each of the grades. • For example, if you have a child who is in Year 1, you could co-ordinate the Year 1 Cake Stall.
You are welcome to team up with another parent/friend and co-ordinate together – loads more fun and not so overwhelming. FYI, for Kinder parents, it is tradition that Kindergarten is allocated the Tombola stall. It is a fun and exciting stall and arguably the most popular on market day!
• Co-ordinating a stall is a great way to learn new skills, use your existing skills, make a valuable contribution to your child’s school, meet new people and have a bit of fun. There is absolutely no requirement to come along to meetings, though you are very welcome if you would like to.
• We’d love you to get in touch with us by emailing [email protected] if you are interested in being a stall co-ordinator for this year.
• We are also currently looking for sponsorship. If you own a local business and you are interested in supporting the markets by way of sponsorship, please email us on [email protected] for more details.
