Getting Started The evaluation version of SCOoffice Server runs on SCO OpenServer 5.0.7. This section includes procedures for installing SCO OpenServer, which has already been installed for your use.

Installing SCO OpenServer 5.0.7

If SCO OpenServer 5.0.7 has not already been installed, the SCO OpenServer installation takes place in five phases:

1. Initial boot and hardware detection 2. Interactive Query Manager (IQM) collects configuration information from the

user, including:

• Licensing, installation media device, and upgrade path information • System level information • Disk setup and software selections • Final configuration information

3. Hard disk initialization and preparation 4. Filesystem creation 5. Software installation

Only phases 1 and 2 require user interaction. The last two phases, where the system is actually installed, are usually the most lengthy: 10 to 20 minutes on new hardware; 1 to 1.5 hours on old hardware. Detailed instructions on the installation of SCO OpenServer can be found at http://docsrv.sco.com:507/en/GetStart/islT.instproc.html.

Installing SCOoffice Server 4.1 With SCO OpenServer installed, the next step is to install SCOoffice Server.

1. Log-in to your SCO OpenServer system as the ‘root’ user. 2. Enter password ‘reviewer’ (password does not appear when typed for security

purposes). 3. Double click on the Software Manager icon. 4. In the Software Manager, from the Software menu, select Install New. 5. Select to install from the current server: server1. 6. Insert the SCOoffice Server 4.1 CD. Click Continue . 7. Identify the media device (CD-ROM Drive 0). 8. Select SCOoffice Mail Server and click on Install. The system will begin

installing the software.

Page 12: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 11

9. To license the product during installation, enter the case-sensitive license number and code from the product license when prompted. (license expires October 15, 2004;100 users)

License Number: OMSREVIEW License Code: wirrtzup License Data: e041015;k0;q0;u100;mpaepxq

10. Click License. The system recognizes that you just added a new 100 user license to the system. However, because mail users are different than standard system users, there is no need to tune the system for the new mail user licenses, select Don’t Tune . The installation process will take approximately five minutes to complete. Click OK and close the Software Manager dialog box (use top, left-hand drop-down menu to close). You have successfully completed the SCOoffice Server installation procedure.

Configuring SCOoffice Server 4.1 The Web Administrator interface is designed to provide all of the capabilities necessary to configure and manage SCOoffice Server. It includes options for managing the following:

• Accounts • Aliases • Mail Folders • Mail Delivery • Configuration • Tools • System • WebClient

Changing the Admin Password For security reasons SCO recommends the first step after installation should be to change the default administrator password. To change the Admin Password:

1. Load the Web Administrator interface. a. Open a Web browser in OpenServer by double-clicking the World Wide

Web icon to launch Mozilla. Click OK. b. Enter the following URL in the address window:

Page 13: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 12

http://server1/ Note: the mail server also accepts https connections for enhanced security. The Web Administrator login screen will appear.

c. Login to the administrative console using the following information: Username: admin Password: admin

d. Click Login. The Web Administrator interface will appear.

2. In the center of the screen, below your system Domain name, click on the link for the [email protected].

3. Enter a new password twice, once in the Password* text field and once in the Confirm Password* text field.

4. Proceed to the bottom of the page and select Update. Your password has now been successfully changed.

5. Re-login to the system:

Username: admin Password: [Type in your new password.]

Managing Domains The SCOoffice Server allows you to create, view, and delete virtual Domains. SCOoffice supports multiple e-mail Domains with Users, Groups and Resources displayed in a tree structure under each Domain. It is not required to create a new domain. The default domain after installation is the Domain part of your Fully Qualified Internet Domain name. For example, if your server name is server1.scodemo.com then scodemo.com is the Domain. You should only create a new domain if you want multiple email destinations to be hosted on a single server. All Users, Resources, and Aliases under a domain will have addresses which are qualified by the Domain name. For example, if you create the Domain “example.com”, and create a User “username” under that Domain, then the corresponding user will have the mail address of the form [email protected]. Realize that creating a Domain in the Web Administrator interface does not configure a new network address nor does it configure DNS for the Domain name. It only configures SCOoffice Server to accept mail addressed to that Domain. As the network administrator you will still need to configure your DNS server to deliver mail to your new system.

Page 14: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 13

To create a domain:

1. In the Accounts Browser (under Accounts on the left-hand side of the screen), click on Create Domain.

As an alternative, you can also click on Domain at the top of the screen.

2. To create a Domain, you must enter the name of the Domain as well as the name

of the Organization to which the Domain belongs.

Page 15: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 14

3. You may choose to allow Users of that Domain to create and manage their own internal e-mail aliases (mailing lists) at this point as well. Enabling this feature can help offload some of the work involved with daily administration of an e-mail and collaboration server to the end-users.

4. Enter contact information for the Domain (optional). 5. Proceed to the bottom of the form and click Create.

You have now successfully created a new Domain.

Managing Users You can use the Web Administrator interface to view, create, modify, and delete SCOoffice Server User accounts. To create a User:

1. Click on Create User in the Accounts Browser.

As an alternative, you can also click on User at the top of the screen.

2. To create a user, you must provide a Container, Login/Username, Password, and

Last Name for that User.

a. Select a container. This is the Domain or Group to which your User will belong. When creating an example User, select the Domain you created in the Managing Domain section above.

Page 16: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 15

b. Enter a Login/Username. This is the name that the user will use to login to the SCOoffice Server either to check e-mail or to access per-user controls. The name should consist of all le tters and numbers and not contain white spaces. Note that if you do not select an E-Mail Address, the Login/Username and the container Domain name will be used to construct the E-Mail address. NOTE: Please make note of this username. It will be used later in the review.

c. Enter a Password. The password must be entered twice and each entry must match for the User creation process to succeed. NOTE: Please make note of this password. It will be used later in the review.

d. Enter a Last name. This should be the last name of the user. The first and middle names are optional, but generally recommended as well.

e. (Optional) Fill in any of the additional General, Contact, Bus iness, or Miscellaneous Information.

Page 17: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 16

3. Proceed to the bottom of the form to check that Create Outlook Folders? is selected.

4. Click Create. Your newly created user should appear.

Managing Aliases You can use the Web Administrator interface to create and manage E-Mail aliases. If the administrator allows it, end-users can also manage their own E-Mail aliases. An alias is a name that SCOoffice Server translates into a corresponding E-Mail address or list of addresses. Using an alias, you can specify a single name to represent a group of mail users. For example, creating an alias called “info” that includes the users Paul Miller, Tom Jones, Sally Smith, and Sue James (members of the sales department), all email addressed to [email protected] will be delivered to Paul, Tom, Sally, and Sue. To create an Alias:

1. Click on Aliases in the Accounts Browser.

2. Click on Create Alias. 3. Select a Container/Domain. 4. Give the Alias a name. (For example: info) 5. Specify whether the Alias is Open or Restricted. With an Open Alias, any end-

user can subscribe to the Alias. With a Restricted alias, only the Alias owner or admin can allows/restricts Alias members.

6. Specify the Alias Owners. Only the specified individuals can delete the Alias. In addition, if the Alias is Restricted, only the Alias Owners can add or delete Alias Members.

Page 18: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 17

7. Specify the Alias Members. You can either enter into the box email addresses, separated by a comma, or click on the browse button to select alias members from a list.

8. Proceed to the bottom of the form and click Create.

You have now successfully created an e-mail alias.

Setting Up SCOoffice Server 4.1 for E-mail & Collaboration IMPORTANT! This section should be completed from a supported Microsoft Windows client with Outlook installed (not just Outlook Express). You will work in Microsoft Windows and a Web browser of your choice (for a list of supported Web browsers, see the System Requirements section of the Reviewer’s Guide). In this section, SCOoffice will serve as a mail and collaboration server. With the SCOoffice Server configured, the Domain created, and the Users added, you are ready to begin using SCOoffice Server. In a Microsoft Windows client:

1. Open a Web browser. 2. Enter the following URL to access the SCOoffice Server:

Page 19: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

http://server1 Note: the mail server also accepts https connections for security.

3. At the Login prompt, enter the Login/Username and Password that were used to

create the User on page 14 and click Login.

You are then presented with the following screen.

The User Preferences manager portion of the SCOoffice Server interface appears, providing users with the ability to manage their personal configuration. Note that the options available here will depend on the options granted to the mail domain by the administrator. IMPORTANT! The next few sections of the reviewer’s guide will require you to continue working in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Outlook for completion. In these sections, SCOoffice will serve as a mail and collaboration server.

Configuring Mail Clients (Microsoft Outlook and Others) The SCOoffice Server works with any mail client that correctly implements POP or IMAP protocols. However, in this guide we will only cover Microsoft Outlook configuration. The SCOoffice Server automatically downloads and configures special software to allow Microsoft Outlook users to share mail folders, contact lists, calendars,

Page 20: SCOoffice Server™ 4 · SCOoffice Server 4.1 Reviewer’s Guide page 6 Features & Benefits Product Description SCOoffice Server 4.1 delivers a reliable, full-featured Internet e-mail

and tasks with other Microsoft Outlook users as well as with users that use the SCOoffice WebClient. Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2003 on Windows 2000 platforms and later are supported. If you are using Outlook 2000, then verify that it is configured in ‘Corporate Workgroup’ mode prior to running the configuration. Please consult your Microsoft Outlook documentation for more information on ‘Corporate Workgroup’ mode, if necessary. To run the automatic configuration for Microsoft Outlook:

1. In the SCOoffice Server Preferences menu, select Client Configuration.

2. Click the Outlook button to download and install the SCOoffice Server Connector for Microsoft Outlook on your Microsoft Windows client.

3. Click the Download link. 4. Select either Open using an application or Run from current location when

prompted. (This choice will depend on what version of MS Outlook you are running.)

5. Answer additional prompts as needed. NOTE: You must create a POP3 account manually if you are using Microsoft Outlook 2002 or 2003.

The installation process successfully completed.

Startup Microsoft Outlook You will now need to open Microsoft Outlook from the Start menu in Windows or from the Desktop. To Configure Microsoft Outlook to work with SCOoffice Server

1. Select Microsoft Outlook from the Start menu. The Outlook 2002 Startup Wizard will appear. (This step assumes that you are using Microsoft Outlook 2002.)

2. In Outlook 2002 Startup screen, select Next. The Account Configuration screen will appear.

3. Select the Yes radio button under Email Accounts and then select Next. The E-mail Accounts screen will appear.

4. Select the POP3 radio button under Server Type and then select Next. 5. Under the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) heading, fill out your:

Name: [This should be the same name entered earlier in the review.] E-mail Address: [This should be the same e-mail address entered earlier in the review.] Incoming mail server (POP3): server1.scodemo.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): server1.scodemo.com

6. Enter the User Name and Password created earlier in the review. 7. Click the Test Account Settings… button.

8. Click Close in the Test Account Settings dialog box. 9. Select Next and then Finish.

You have now successfully configured Microsoft Outlook with SCOoffice Server—which will allow you to share mail folders, contact lists, calendars, tasks, etc.

Using Shared Folders The SCOoffice Server Connector for Microsoft Outlook allows you to share your mail folders and Special Folders, such as Calendar, with other SCOoffice Server users. Folders are shared simply by granting permission for other users to access the folder. Having done this, the folder will automatically appear in the other users Outlook Folders List. Permissions are assigned on a per user per folder basis. IMPORTANT! Again, this section of the reviewer’s guide will require you to work in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Outlook. In this section, SCOoffice will serve as a mail and collaboration server. To share a folder in Microsoft Outlook with other users:

1. With Microsoft Outlook running, select Folder List from the View menu. The Folders List tree view should appear.

You have successfully configured Microsoft Outlook and SCOoffice Server to begin sharing calendars.

Setting Folder Synchronization Options

As mentioned earlier in the SCOoffice Reviewer’s Guide, the PST file resides on your computer and is used as an intermediate storage/work location for messages as they flow between Outlook and the SCOoffice Server via the Connector. Folder synchronization means that the contents of the PST file (local copy of your folders) are synchronized with the SCOoffice Server folders. By default, folders are set to synchronize with the SCOoffice Server every time you select the folder in the Outlook folder list. However, this may not be appropriate for high traffic folders. To change synchronization for a folder in Microsoft Outlook:

1. Select the folder in the Folder List that you wish to share. For this exercise, select the Inbox icon in the Folder List and then click the Folder button in the SCOoffice Server Connector toolbar. The SCOoffice Server Connector Folder Options dialog box will be displayed. You can now configure the SCOoffice Server connector to synchronize folders:

a. Every time I select this folder b. Manually (click “Synchronize” button) c. When Outlook starts up and exits d. At a specified time interval

You have now successfully completed the mail folder synchronization exercise.

Using the SCOoffice WebClient for E-mail & Collaboration The SCOoffice WebClient is designed to provide functionality similar to Microsoft Outlook from a Web-based application. IMPORTANT! In this section of the reviewer’s guide, you to work in Microsoft Windows and a Web browser of your choice (for a list of supported Web browsers, see

Competitive Advantage Microsoft SCOoffice Server 4.1 will appeal to resellers and small/medium business that may be dissatisfied with Microsoft’s licensing and software assurance, product complexity, high hardware costs, security record, and upgrade cycles.

Concerns with Microsoft Channel Management

Concerns with Microsoft BackOffice®, Small Business Server, and Exchange

Server • Decreasing margin • Expensive training costs • Expensive support costs • Channel conflict by taking customers

direct (new software assurance licensing model)

• Large account resellers weed out smaller resellers and help Microsoft to bring more customers direct

• Product complexity results in high management and administration costs

• Poor security record and virus threats • High cost, especially when not using

all features • No upgrade path from Microsoft

Small Business Server (must purchase full version of Windows Server and Exchange Server)

• Expensive hardware costs when running multiple servers to achieve increased reliability

Novell/SuSE With the acquisition of SuSE, Novell has two mail server products—SuSE Openexchange and Novell GroupWise. Because SuSE Openexchange Server only runs on SuSE Linux, customers and resellers would need to introduce another server into their existing environment. Openexchange does not enable the enhanced Outlook integration and it does not include the friendly user interface found in SCOoffice Server. Novell GroupWise has a higher total cost of ownership, while SCOoffice Server delivers the right features and benefits for small and medium businesses that need e-mail and collaboration.
