and seventh of his career. a. Simon returned the INT a career-long 21 yards which set up a made 49-yard field by Drew Alleman for LSU’s first points of the

game. b. Simon is the third LSU player during the 2012 season to record INT’s in back-to-back games. CB Jalen Mills (Washington and

Idaho games) and S Craig Loston (Ole Miss and Mississippi State games) also accomplished the feat this season. 22. DT Josh Downs recorded his 2.5 sack of the season during the first quarter. Downs has picked up 2.5 of his 3.5 career sacks in 2012. 23. DT Bennie Logan blocked his first field goal of the season, a 40-yard attempt by Arkansas’ Zach Hocker, with 5:12 remaining in the second

quarter. The attempt would have tied the score at 3-3. a. For Logan, it was his second career recorded field goal block. His first came in the second quarter of the regular season game

on a 49-yard attempt at Alabama during the 2011 season.

ARKANSAS FOOTBALL

POSTGAME QUOTES

Nov. 23, 2012 vs. LSU– Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium

Arkansas Head Coach John L. Smith (opening statement) – “(You have) to give LSU credit, they are an

awfully good football team as we all know. They have tremendous athletes on their side of the ball. I am very

proud of our guys, they played hard, they battled and hung in there. They did everything that we asked them

to do this week. We had an opportunity to win the football game. That is what you try to do, is to give them an

opportunity to win. We had an opportunity. A big play here or a big play there and we would have been ok.

The first half was a heck of a battle. They ended up making one great catch. That was a great athlete making a

great play. We couldn’t ask our guy to cover much better than that. The second half we came out and told the

defense they were going to have to battle and they did. They gave us plenty of opportunities. A couple

miscues in there and turnovers and I can’t be more proud of our guys, the way they hung in there. They

battled and fought until the very end. They gave us a chance to win. They have hung together all year and they

have done what we asked. They have gone to the field every day. They work hard, they got better. It has been

a great year. With their attitude and the way they have worked and what they have tried to give us. Plenty of

times this year there has been adversity. You could have seen them slip and not hang together. To see guys

quit, which we never saw. They hung together and they battled. We tried to tell them it was one program and

one goal. We are still one program and these guys deserve a lot of credit for fighting through all of that. There

were some good young kids out there. This program has a bright future. And they will hang together as well

and continue to work hard. They know how to go to work and they are good. We have a nice future ahead.

Whatever they do in life, academics, athletics, family life, go back to this past year in everything you do.”

Arkansas Head Coach John L. Smith (on the defensive effort) –“Our defense played their tail off, they really

did. They stepped up and took away the run. It forced them to have to throw the ball. We missed a tackle or

two. Again, you have to give credit to their guys, they are awfully good kids in those uniforms that are making

you miss those tackles. Our defense played hard and I felt like we were really dominating defensively in the

second half. We had to rely on those guys and say ‘go do it one more time.’ Go get the ball back one more time

with six minutes to go. We had a chance to win.”

Arkansas Head Coach John L. Smith (on the season as a whole) –“This year has been a tremendous year. I

love being with these guys. They did all they could do. It was a step in my life. You can’t turn your back on

those guys and visa-versa. Those guys are going to love each other forever. There are a lot of great young men

in there. I am going to look back at this opportunity I had to coach great young men at a great institution. I’m

blessed.”

Arkansas QB-Tyler Wilson (on the game) – “The way we played defensively was incredible. Offensively we

gave them a lot to look at and executed pretty well. We just didn’t execute those defining plays.”

Arkansas QB-Tyler Wilson (on the toughness of WR-Cobi Hamilton) – “This place is pretty special. To go

out on your own terms is how everyone wants to play the game. He wanted to come out on his terms and I

respect him for it.”

Arkansas QB-Tyler Wilson (on finishing his career at Arkansas) – “It’s been a fun ride. I talked to you

media guys the other day about the previous seasons, it’s been great. We watched a power point last night

and you see a picture of me at 175 pounds walking in here. Then you go through the ups, the Sugar Bowl, the

Cotton Bowl and everything you go through. It’s been a life lesson for me, not only the records and that stuff,

but it’s been a wonderful time and I’m glad I got to spend it at Arkansas.”

Arkansas WR-Cobi Hamilton (on his game) – “It was my last game as a senior. We couldn’t pull out a win

like we wanted to, but it was fun. I played my butt off and I enjoy being out there with my teammates.”

Arkansas WR-Cobi Hamilton (on finishing his career as a Razorback) – “It wasn’t very tough. I’ve had so

many memories in this stadium, in this state and as a Razorback. I leave here as a Razorback and I’m just so

proud of that. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Arkansas WR-Cobi Hamilton (on fans chanting his name) – “I heard it a little bit. I heard Cobi, but I

thought it was something on the sideline. It is pretty special to have that happen. It means a lot. The support

we had throughout the season showed so much. It was a great feeling.”

Arkansas DE-Chris Smith (on the future of this team) – “I just love my team. Robert Thomas, Byron Jones,

DD Jones, Jared Green, Alfred Davis those guys are hard to see go. We are going to pick it up next year. We

fought our tails off tonight. We didn’t worry about the offense and just did our job. Time just wasn’t on our

side tonight.”

LSU Head Coach Les Miles (opening statement) – “First of all, congratulations to a very strong effort by

Arkansas. We came in here the last game of the season in their place and they played and gave everything

they had. Great effort on their part. We’re a little nicked up. We need to heal. Our football team played

extremely hard. Defensively, we felt like if we tackled better it would have been different. Offensively they

had a nice game plan. They played it well. We needed to hit a couple passes. (It’s our) 10th victory. We’ll take

the next day and a half and see how things go. Arkansas is a quality team. It’s very difficult for me to believe

they are not bowl eligible. With their talent, they are very capable.”

LSU Head Coach Les Miles (on Arkansas’ defense) – “They came after us. They stunted, they blitzed, they did

the right things. It was a nice addition to their plan. We have to throw the ball better and protect the

quarterback better. I give credit to the opponent.”

LSU Head Coach Les Miles (on defending Arkansas) – “Our defense keeps it in front of them. We needed to

tackle better on the short routes. I give credit to the Arkansas team. They played awfully well.”

LSU Head Coach Les Miles (on the game) – “The turnover at the two yard line was the key in the game.

(Michael) Ford’s return was big. The interception was by a pretty special cornerback and it led to points. We

didn’t have a lot of points, but we scored just enough.”

LSU Head Coach Les Miles (on playing the game in Fayetteville) – “I recognize that playing here is a big

advantage for these Razorbacks. The stadium is a live venue. They give us fits in Little Rock as well.”

LSU RB-Jeremy Hill (on the game) – “It’s frustrating, you want to put them away. It’s tough when you don’t

score touchdowns when you get in the red zone. We fought hard, we won the game. We just did enough to

win the game. Sometimes you play games like this and just have to do enough to win. We did enough tonight.”

LSU RB-Jeremy Hill (on the Arkansas defense against the run) – “They were blitzing the safeties, shifting

the line, slanting them, and bringing extra men in the box. It’s tough to go against that. We just have to go back

to the drawing board. Sometimes the running back doesn’t see the right hole. It just happens.”
