Maria Lugue Solicitor General – Glynn County

Maria Lugue has served as Glynn County's Solicitor-General since she was elected

to office in January 2009. A fourth generation Glynn County resident, Maria attended

Glynn county schools and went on to the University of Georgia where she received her

Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. She then attended

John Marshall School of Law in Atlanta where she earned her Juris Doctorate degree.

The Solicitor-General's Office is a fast-paced high volume office that prosecuted

about 10,000 cases last year. It’s a workload that is daunting for an official who is

considered a “part-time employee” of the county. In 2009 her office processed over

16,000 cases alone. If you have had a speeding ticket or a moving violation that went to

court, you may have seen Maria. Her cases include misdemeanors including vehicular

charges, prostitution, shoplifting, battery, and drug possession under one ounce, among

other crimes. It’s a mixed bag of charges that are punishable

up to one-year in jail, but most never see that punishment.

Some tips from Maria on how to stay out of her court:

“Don’t speed. Don’t drink and drive. Wear your seat belt.

Have a current driver’s license. You know your birthday,

so plan on renewing your car tags in a timely fashion so

I don’t see you in court.”

Thank you, Maria. We hope we don’t see you anytime soon.
