  • Carbon absorption from the perennial grass component evolve into highly stable forms of soil carbon, while the short-term high sugar forms of carbon (labile c) exuded by the cereal crop stimulate microbial activity.

  • Highly efficient C4 perennials are extremely efficient converters of the suns energy whilst maintaining low water use.
  • Microbial activity is encouraged year round; soil temperatures are greatly reduced by the microclimate created.
  • Wind and weather erosion is halted.
  • This allows huge savings on knock down herbicides and bare soilfallows.

  • When levels of humified soil carbon increase, so too does porosity, aggregate stability and SWHC.
  • The conditioning of soil at depth by perennial grass roots can remove many of the sub soil constraints that often develop when levels of biological activity are diminished by bare stubble fallow and annual cropping practices.
  • SWHC below the normal annual crop root zone-significantly increases the bucket depth and its capacity.
