Cohabiting Partner Extensions

Career breaks, maternityleave, secondment or livingoverseasThose going on a career break,maternity leave, secondment or areliving overseas must contact theScottish Police Federation to identifyif cover can be maintained.

Retirement fromthe Police ServiceServing officers upon retirement mayremain in the scheme as a retiredmember by submitting a completedmembership continuation form to the Scottish Police Federation preferablyprior to retirement, but in any event,within 30 days of retirement.

Transfer, resignationor dismissalServing officers who transfer, resignor are dismissed from the policeservice are not eligible to remain inthe scheme and all membership andbenefits will cease including anycohabiting partner extension.

Complaints procedureThe Federation Insurance Scheme is arranged on behalf of the trusteesby Philip Williams and Company who are authorised and regulated by theFinancial Conduct Authority (Registration Number 308860). The trusteesare responsible for organising the policies and dealing with the insurancebroker. Any complaints about any aspect of the scheme should in the firstinstance be directed to the Scottish Police Federation. �e insurance brokerwill then then be asked to investigate the complaint and resolve any mattereither via the Federation, directly with the member, or through theappropriate underwriting organisation.

This booklet is a summary only. The benefits are subject to certain exclusions and policy conditions notstated in this booklet which in the event of a claim will be applicable. The benefits are provided strictly underthe terms of the insurance policies taken out by the trustees of the scheme. Subscription to the schemeentitles the member to the benefits provided by the scheme but confers no ownership of any of theunderlying policies which are vested in the trustees. The trustees retain the full policy wording detailing allbenefits and exclusions which may be viewed on request to the Federation.

Members of the Scottish Police Federation Voluntary Fund may apply to join the scheme on appointment to Police Scotland. Any other applications will be at the trustees' discretion and subject to the terms they stipulate. �e Scottish Police Federation and Philip Williams & Co reserve the right to decline any applications.

EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS

Life insuranceOn death of a member orcohabiting partner who are coveredunder the scheme the cash benefitdetailed in the current benefitstable will be paid. The policy iswritten in Trust so that if a memberdies, the proceeds can be paid, bythe Trustees, to the member'sdependants quickly free of tax andwithout having to wait for probate.Members should ensure that theyhave an up-to-date beneficiarynominated and have lodged thedetails with the Scottish PoliceFederation to assist the Trusteesin the event of a claim. If a memberaged 63 or under receives a terminalprognosis of 12 months or less, theymay apply to the Trustees for anadvance of the death benefit forthe relevant sum insured.

Child Death GrantThis benefit is paid upon thedeath of a dependent child of amember, aged between six monthsand 17 years.

Permanent total disablementPayable when a member is unableto perform any gainful employmentand is unable to exist indepen-dently, requiring continualsupervision for activities of dailyliving, as a result of an accident.

Accidental loss of use benefitBenefits paid in the event of:- Loss of sight in one or both eyes- Loss of use of one or more limb- Total loss of hearing in one or both ears- Total loss of speech.

Assault benefitThis benefit is payable where amember whilst on police dutysuffers an assault with a firearm,knife or other sharp instrumentwhich results in actual physicalinjury which renders the memberunfit for duty for a period of threeconsecutive days or more.

Sick Pay BenefitIf a member suffers a reduction inpay under Police Regulations orterms of employment, the benefitsas shown in the policy will becomepayable. The benefit ceases onreturn to work or if the memberretires, resigns, is discharged fromthe police service, or fails to pay themonthly scheme subscription. Inaddition the benefit shall not bepayable if the member has beenoffered reasonable adjusted dutieswith a return to full pay and hasdeclined such duties withoutreasonable cause.

Any overpayment due to a reversalin the decision by Police Scotlandwhich results in a resumption ofpay (including any back payment)or due to a failure by the member toinform the insurers of a return towork must be repaid in a promptand timely manner.

The scheme benefits will be payable if a member, member's partner (if additional subscription paid)or their child, aged from 30 days to 17 years, suffers from an insured illness and survives for morethan 14 days from the date of diagnosis or surgery.

Please refer to the policy wording for full definitions of theillnesses covered.

A pre-existing conditions exclusion applies together withother terms and conditions. Critical illness benefit ispayable once only in respect of conditions in a commongroup. Some illnesses may belong to more than onegroup, as shown in the full policy wording.

REDARC

A telephone support service which provides Access to a Personal Nurse Adviser for you and yourfamily residing in the family home to provide support in the event of a Critical Illness claim being made.

Your Personal Nurse Adviser will be able to assist with:- Help in understanding the condition and all its implications- Explain options for treatment- Help to prepare for consultants appointment- Explain medical terms in simple everyday language- Information and advice on home adaptations/specialist equipment- Find suitable equipment & medical aids- Provide information on entitlements from NHS- Helping you to make as speedy recovery as possible and good long term management of the condition, or- Simply a listening ear when you are feeling low, or want to talk to someone who is not emotionally involved.

At the discretion of the nurse, when clinically necessary they may be able to arrange extra help.

FAMILY TRAVEL POLICY

This policy covers the member, their cohabitingpartner and any number of their dependentchildren aged under 18 years or 21 if in full timeeducation, all normally resident in the familyhome, for any number of trips in any year up to60 days per trip. It covers travel worldwide andalso in the United Kingdom.The main sections of cover are:- Cancellation and curtailment up to £10,000- Emergency medical expenses up to £5,000,000- Personal Baggage up to £1,500- Personal Money up to £500- Public liability up to £2,000,000- Personal Accident up to £20,000.

Main conditions and exclusionsThe policy will not cover you if any of the followingapply to you, a travelling companion, relative, businesscolleague or non-traveller at the policy start date andeach time you make arrangements for a trip.

1. You/they were aware of any reason why the tripcould be cancelled or curtailed.2. You/they were travelling against the advice of amedical practitioner or in order to get medicaltreatment abroad.3. You/they have been diagnosed as having aterminal illness4. You/they are on a waiting list for surgery, treatment,or investigation at a hospital or are awaiting the resultsof hospital tests or investigations.

If there is any change in a person’s health between thedate the policy is issued and the start date of a trip youmust still comply with the Health Warranty. If you areunsure please notify Voyager Insurance Services Ltd on01483 806 816 immediately.

An excess of £50 is applicable for most policy sections.The excess is payable per person, per section, perinsured incident subject to a maximum of £100.

All use of this service is available for the coveredmember and their partner. We consider a ‘partner’any person married, civil partnered, or cohabiting withthe covered member at the time of the incident. Anyclaim will be validated with Philip Williams and Company,or other such administrative organisation, with costsfor any claims from non-eligible persons being theresponsibility of the claimant.

Cover will apply during the period of insurance andwithin the territorial limits. There is no age limit to thecar, motorcycle, or car-derived van for breakdownsoccurring in the UK. A vehicle age limit of 10 yearsapplies outside the UK.
