The Scottish Rite News Page Three
The Scottish Rite is one of the appendant fraternities of Freemasonry that a Master Mason may join for further exposure to the principles of Freemasonry. In the United States the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite is officially recognized by Grand Lodges as an extension of the degrees of Freemasonry. It builds upon the ethical teachings and philosophy offered in the Blue Lodge through dramatic presentation of individual degrees in an effort to inspire men and strengthen community. We plan our meeting and event calendar around the slogan “ICE,” which stands for Inspiration, Convenience, and Enjoyment. A large part of the “inspiration” comes from presenting and receiving the various “degrees.” Degree work is made up of dramatic skits and allegories that reflect Scottish Rite Core Values. The degrees number from 4 through 32. The six core values represented are: Reverence for God, Integrity, Justice, Toleration, Devotion to Country, and Service to Humanity. Candidates are issued a “passport” booklet that may be stamped each time he receives a degree and official records are kept of member attendance as well. Participating in the inspiring, convenient and enjoyable programs and fellowship activities for members is the means of getting full value from a Scottish Rite membership. I am looking forward to our Spring Reunion, April 24-25, where six degrees will be presented. Brethren, won’t you join us and bring a friend?

Partially supported by the Erie Scottish Rite, Compass Reading Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with dyslexia and specific reading disabilities achieve academic and classroom success. Currently tutoring seventeen students two times per week, the Center is always accepting applications for enrollment. This year we are training two new tutors.
Please visit their website at www.compassreadingcenter.org to find out more about dyslexia and what can be done to help the one in five people who struggle with it daily.
Michael A. Koncewicz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Compass Reading Center, sends best wishes and thanks to those who gave generously in the past year. Your generosity has been life changing!
