On Friday, November 11, 2005, our Chairman, M. DouglasAdkins and his Lady, Carole were involved in a serious chainreaction accident on Dallas North Tollway. Their vehicle was thesixth in a seven car pile up.

Illustrious Sir Doug suffered severe neck injuries and LadyCarole’s shoulder was completely ruined. Doug spent severaldays in the hospital and will be recuperating for a long period.Even though, he was able to be with us in a neck brace for thehonors day ceremonies and be coroneted a 33o InspectorGeneral Honorary.

Lady Carole had a total shoulder replacement onWednesday, November 16 and was unable to be with us.

Please keep them both in your prayers for a speedy andcomplete recovery.

CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGECarole and I sincerely appreciate your prayers and thoughts during our recent encounter with the unknown. Wehave a long convalescent period in front of us, but we are in the hands of the Great Physician and are confidentthat His grace is sufficient.

The Honors Banquet Hall was full to the brim as we recognized the achievements of our Brethren; I only wish therewere more available to give to many other deserving Brethren. We were so pleased to honor and recognize SGICin Texas, the Illustrious Jack E. Hightower, 33°, as he brought our keynote address. His love and appreciation ofhis “home” valley was so very evident. The notation of his accomplishments in this newspaper speaks for itself.

Illustrious Leonard Harvey, 33° as Grand Commander in the 33rd Degree and Honorable Matthew Brady Strickland,32° KCCH as Grand Commander in the Knight Commander Court of Honour Investiture were magnificent – as weretheir supporting officers - two superb performances. The office personnel gave their utmost in making the ban-quet a overwhelming success. A particular acknowledgement should go to Buck Howard, 32°, Worthy Master, formarshalling out the Knights of St. Andrews to assist our ever dependable Bus Boys in serving food to our Brethrenand guests. Make plans now to attend the Installation of Officers Banquet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, December 8that the Cathedral. Please RSVP our office at 214-748-9196. May our challenges become opportunities to serve oth-ers.

What is the Almoner?The Almoner is an officer of the Scottish Rite Bodies who is

elected by his Brethren.His duty is to dispense the charities of the lodge by assist-

ing the widow and orphan, the destitute and physically handi-capped regardless of race, creed or color. The recipient israrely aware of the source of aid, for charity is not measuredentirely by the size of the gift and can easily be cheapened byboasting of its source. A thoughtful deed and a kind word aresincere expressions of fellowship, understanding and toleranceand must be given with humility and patience, for realizing ourown shortcomings, we must not magnify the faults of others tothe point that we are blinded to their virtues.

Your Almoner likes to feel that the various expenditures arean investment made to rehabilitate a home by giving the familya better feeling of security, knowing that someone caresenough to give of their time and money to help lift their worries.Administering to their needs in a time of difficulty will give themnew spiritual strength, aid them in becoming self-supportingand revive their faith in our great country. This, my Brethren,gives credence to that great tenet of Masonry - Brotherly Love,Relief and Truth.

Maintaining the Almoner’s Fund is a duty of each member ofthe Rite. The emphasis is on each, for when attending meet-ings, no brother is expected to leave without making his contri-bution. If he is present at the meetings, he will hear the injunc-tion regarding it, which is in no way embarrassing to him. If aBrother is unable to attend the regular meetings, he should notwithhold his contributions.

Many Brethren, unable to attend meetings, have not over-looked that important Masonic Duty by including a contributionfor the Almoner when they pay their dues.

It would be impossible to thank each person who worked on Honors Day to make it go off without a hitch. Thankyou to the Busboys, Chef’s Committee, Knights of St. Andrew, Sound Committee, Lighting Committee, Stage Crew,Wardrobe Committee, Registration Committee, Degree Teams for the KCCH and 33rd Degree, Jewelry Sales and all ofthe others who helped. Special Thanks to Miguel and Delia who worked diligently for many days to get the Cathedral incondition for the day, Cindy and Barbara in the office who pulled everything together, Glenda for the decorations, FredAllen for the wealth of information that he passed on and many more who did all the little things required to make ithappen.

It was great to have our Chairman, Doug Adkins here to preside so soon after his accident . We were also proud tohave Right Worshipful and Illustrious Jack E. Hightower, S.G.I.G. for Texas in attendance for the day. In all, we at DallasScottish Rite were very pleased with the entire day.

The car moves forward and eventually approaches a sharpcurve. The man prays for his life, sure the ghost car willcrash and he’ll plunge to his death.

Suddenly, a hand appears through the window and turnsthe wheel. Terrified, the man jumps out and runs to a near-by bar, where he shares his supernatural experience. As hefinishes, two country boys went into the bar. One looks atthe other and says, “Look, Bubba, ain’t that the guy whorode in our car while we was pushin’ it?”
