GuideFIND YOUR BLISS IN SCOTTSDALE

W hen you’re looking for a spa experience that goes beyond the everyday and ordinary, look no further than

Scottsdale, Arizona. Many of our celebrated resort and day spas find their inspiration in the Sonoran

Desert’s natural bounty, blending ingredients like prickly pear fruit, mesquite honey and desert sage into fragrant

concoctions that soothe, smooth and energize. Other treatments draw on the wisdom of ancient Native American

healing techniques. And still others tap into the finest, time-tested healing traditions from around the world. The

result is a world-class spa destination dedicated to the well-being of your body, mind and spirit.

The Spa at Talking Stick

4 The Fully Loaded Facial™Bliss Spa at W Scottsdale

Our list would be incomplete without this deca-

dent facial from the aptly named Bliss Spa at the

W Scottsdale Hotel & Residences. This 90-min-

ute, over-the-top treatment utilizes more than

10 top-of-the-line products based on your skin’s

individual needs. The pampering starts with a deep

cleansing followed by a fruit acid wash. An oxygen

wrap and gentle extractions follow. Once your skin

is cleansed, exfoliated and receptive, you’ll receive

applications of an age-fighting, plumping col-

lagen serum and a skin-type-specific rubberizing

masque. Antioxidant vitamins are then massaged

into your skin, which is sprayed with refreshing,

pure oxygen to help the vitamins penetrate.

And as if all that pampering wasn’t enough, the

Fully Loaded Facial includes a head, neck, shoulder,

arm and foot massage, as well as a rich Hair Dew®

conditioning treatment. So on top of glowing skin

and a relaxed body, you’ll have gorgeous locks that

will be shiny and renewed!

1 Taste of Alvadora

Alvadora Spa at Royal Palms

The lush landscaping and Spanish-Mediterranean

architecture of the Royal Palms Resort create the

perfect ambiance in which to enjoy Alvadora Spa’s

new Taste of Alvadora, a treatment that combines

samplings of the spa’s four signature treatments in

one rejuvenating spa experience.

The sweet scent of neroli oils will enchant you as

your skin is gently buffed to a youthful glow during

the Orange Blossom Scrub. Next, tense muscles

find relief with a Classic Massage, which incorpo-

rates Swedish-style movements customized to your

body’s needs. The Alvadora Custom Facial brings

out your inner glow with a customized cleanse,

exfoliation and mask based on your skin type.

Finally, the Simply Citrus Pedicure pampers your

feet with a citrus soak, nail grooming, citrus lotion

application and polish.

3 Havasupai Falls Rejuvenation

Well & Being at Willow Stream

This two-hour treatment experience is an excellent

introduction to Well & Being at Willow Stream, a

rejuvenating sanctuary at The Fairmont Scottsdale

Princess (above).

Drawing on the healing traditions and ingredients

of the Southwest, the treatment begins with a

purifying scrub using desert salts that have been

infused with indigenous essential oils. Next, you’ll

relax with a soak in a warm bath filled with herbal

foaming bath salts, followed by a massage with

jojoba body butter to prepare your skin for hot riv-

erbed stones that release and soothe tired muscles.

You’ll then be cocooned in a soothing wrap while

your therapist streams warm herbal-infused oil

over your forehead and into your hair. The service

finishes with a soothing scalp massage. Note: To re-

ceive the full conditioning benefit, the oil should stay

on your hair at least 30 minutes after the service, and

ideally overnight. You’ll need a long and thorough

shampoo, so this treatment is not recommended for

those with events planned immediately afterwards.

The Bliss List

Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau

Here they are – 10 treatments that are among the best of Scottsdale’s best. From a soothing massage using desert

lavender to a complete spa experience inspired by the Grand Canyon’s Havasupai Falls, these therapeutic treat-

ments take pampering to entirely new heights

2 Tok Sen

Spa at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain

Perched high on Camelback Mountain, Sanctuary

(above) is an oasis of Asian-inspired treatments. It

also is the first spa in the United States to offer Tok

Sen, a specialized healing treatment from Thailand.

Tok Sen encompasses Thai yoga–like stretching

with vibration therapy. Using a tapping technique

(Tok) performed along the energy pathways (Sen)

that run throughout the body, the flow of your

energy is evened out, creating a relaxing and sooth-

ing experience. This treatment helps with physical

aches and pains, energy blockages, poor circula-

tion, nerve problems and more.

5 Rain MassageAgave, The Arizona Spa

Just steps from the Westin Kierland Resort, at the

end of a walkway shaded by citrus trees, Agave, the

Arizona Spa (above), offers 20 luxurious treatment

rooms, a lap pool, lush garden and meditation area.

Experience the journey of the rain with the exclu-

sive Rain Massage. Developed at Agave Spa, the

unique rowing technique using smooth, warmed

rain sticks “washes out” negative energy (or chi)

from head to the toe, just as the rain falling from

the sky cleans the air. This treatment is a deeply

renewing journey that nourishes both the body

and soul.

10 Sacred Nature RitualSpa Avania at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale

Awaken in the morning, rejuvenate at mid-

day. Unwind in the evening. This is your body’s

fundamental daily journey toward balance – and

the foundation for every experience at the Hyatt

Regency Scottsdale’s Spa Avania (below).

The 90-minute Sacred Nature Ritual is an anti-

aging experience for your entire body. Using

all-organic products, the treatment includes a

full-body exfoliation, soothing wrap with a hydrat-

ing moisturizer, and a facial treatment utilizing

Butterfly Bush extract to protect the DNA of your

skin cells for notable anti-aging.

resort boasts a blend of old-world therapies and

innovative spa services to detoxify and invigorate

your body and spirit.

The Centre’s diverse menu includes a variety of ho-

listic massages, hot stone rituals, body treatments,

facials and well-being packages to help achieve in-

ner calm and discover the harmony of your body’s

natural rhythms. The Desert Serenity Scrub, Wrap

& Massage is a detoxifying and regenerating treat-

ment that combines a gentle exfoliation followed

by an application of mineral-rich clay, Aloe Vera

and essential oils. After showering, you’ll enjoy a

full-body Swedish massage to smooth away any

remaining muscle tension.

6 Orange Blossom Body Ritual Jurlique Spa at FireSky Resort & Spa

Staffed by a team of “tranquility experts,” Jurlique

Spa at FireSky Resort (above) taps into both Eastern

and Western spa philosophies to help you restore

your energy, enhance your outer beauty and heal

from within. Jurlique also emphasizes products

rich in organic ingredients grown on herb farms

in the Adelaide Hills of southern Australia.

Experience total skin renewal with the ultimate

body peel treatment, the Orange Blossom Body

Ritual, which uses Fijian Exotic Orange Blossom

Oils. Sun damage, age spots and skin tone issues

are addressed with a triple exfoliation wrap. The

treatment also includes a scalp, hand and foot

massage, as well as an application of Botanical

Refining Balm to soothe skin and restore its natural

moisture balance.

7 Eurasia’s Velvet Reprieve Eurasia Spa

Eurasia Spa at the Scottsdale Resort & Athletic Club

captures the beauty and magic of Asia in its design

and décor. Adding a bit of local ambiance, each spa

session begins with a Cosanti bell ritual. This blend

of ambient sound and peaceful rhythm and melody

guides the mind and body into a more relaxed and

balanced state.

Give your body some TLC with the Velvet Reprieve, a

treatment designed to soothe and heal dry, sensitive or

sun-exposed skin. The treatment starts with an herbal

dry brush to prepare the body’s complexion. Then, a

creamy body treatment blended with fresh coconut,

vanilla and herbal extracts is applied to soften the skin.

After the treatment is removed, a massage with warm

coconut oil will leave your skin feeling velvety soft.

9 Desert Lavender MassageThe Spa at Talking Stick

The Spa at Talking Stick (above), located on the

resort’s 14th floor, pampers guests in private

treatment rooms adorned with floor-to-ceiling

windows that can be opened during treatments.

And staying true to the heritage and traditions of

the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community,

The Spa at Talking Stick features products made

with culturally significant ingredients harvested

from the community’s gardens.

One of The Spa’s signature treatments, the Desert

Lavender Massage begins with a gentle dry brush

exfoliation followed by a customized massage with

desert lavender and wild chaparral oil to ensure

complete relaxation and relief from stress. Follow-

ing the massage, tufts of raw Pima cotton are used

to brush your body using feather-light strokes.

This soft sensation soothes the central nervous

system and leaves your skin silky soft.

True Food KitchenCelebrate simplicity with True Food Kitchen’s

(below) menu of sustainable, fresh and satisfy-

ing meals. Based entirely on Dr. Andrew Weil’s

Anti-Inflammatory Diet & Food Pyramid, flavorful

dishes are packed with healthy vegetables, whole

grains, and proteins. One taste of the Tuscan kale

salad and you’ll be craving the lemon, Parmesan

and breadcrumb combo for days afterward. Even

the drinks, like the cucumber and honey lemonade,

are nutritious and delicious.

Spa Café at The BouldersDesigned to repair, relax and help your body per-

form at its peak, cuisine from the Spa Café (below)

is savory and good for you. Dietary restrictions?

Not to worry – Spa Chef Neal Hall caters to all

types of eaters, including vegetarians, vegans and

those with food allergies. Delicacies include the

Portobello Vegetable Wrap, Red & Golden Beet

Salad, and Sesame Salmon Cakes.

Sprouts at Camelback InnEnjoy lunch, a snack or cocktail at Sprouts (above)

where chefs use the freshest ingredients and in-

novative spices such as corn and carrot powders,

citrus sauces and tomato basil for natural season-

ing. Striking a balance between healthy and tasty,

plates like the Pan-seared Yellowfish Tuna are low in

calories but high in flavor. Wash it down with an

antioxidant elixir of your choice. We recommend the

Fresh Cucumber Cooler.

Who says healthy food has to be tasteless? In Scottsdale, wholesome eating is a true culinary adventure. Just try to

leave these restaurants hungry. We dare you.

Grub That’s Good for Body & Soul

How to Spa Like a Pro• ReservationsFor the best selection of treatments and appointment times, book your

services well in advance (two to four weeks ahead is ideal). If you have a

preference for a male or female spa therapist, be sure to mention that when

you make your reservation.

• Check-InArrive at least 45 minutes before your appointment. This will give you time

to check in, explore the spa facilities and relax before your treatment begins.

Treatments always begin and end on time, so don’t arrive late and lose out

on precious treatment time.

• Spa AttireYou’ll receive a robe and spa sandals to wear during your visit, and a secure

locker will be provided for your clothing and personal belongings. Be sure to

bring a swimsuit if you’d like to enjoy the pool or whirlpool.

• Spa EnviromentSpas are quiet, tranquil places, so please refrain from using cell phones and

pagers, talking loudly or smoking. Some spas are adult-only environments,

while others offer services designed specifically for younger guests. If you

have children or teens interested in spa or salon services, inquire about the

spa’s minimum age requirements when you make your appointment.

• GratuitiesMost spas add a modifiable 18-20% gratuity and have you sign your credit

card slip at the time of check-in. If your spa does this, you may leave the spa

at any time without checking out unless you wish to change the amount of

your gratuity.

• CancellationsMost spas require you to cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance in

order to avoid a cancellation fee. Confirm your spa’s individual policy when

booking your treatment.

• Health ConditionsIf you are pregnant or have any health concerns, disabilities or injuries, in-

form the reservation agent when you book your service. This will assist your

therapist in customizing the spa experience to your needs.

• Personal PreferencesBefore your treatment begins, tell your therapist if you have any questions

or concerns. During the treatment, let the therapist know if the pressure

they are using is too hard or too soft for your liking, or if environmental

conditions, such as the room temperature, music level, etc., need to be

adjusted for your comfort.

Sweet Mesquite & Honey Body TherapyPolish your skin to an all-over glow with this treat

at the Spa at Talking Stick Resort (above). A gentle

scrub of sweet mesquite, salts and grains opens

your pores, preparing your skin for a rich mask of

jojoba butter and mesquite honey. The relaxation

continues with a toning and lifting facial massage

and a body massage with sweet mesquite body lo-

tion that leaves your complexion vibrant and bright.

Adobe Clay Purification TreatmentInspired by Native American healing rituals, this

treatment from The Spa at Camelback Inn uses

pure adobe clay and herbs indigenous to the

Sonoran Desert to soothe sore muscles and nour-

ish your skin.

TURQUOISE WRAP

The Waldorf Astoria Spa at The Boulders Resort (right) offers this signature treatment based on the Native American belief that turquoise is a color of protection, self-con-fidence and positive energy. A revitalizing exfoliation supports a nourishing warm turquoise clay wrap, a wrap of pure honey and, lastly, an application of honey butter to leave your skin soft and glowing. During this wrap indulgence, the therapist performs a rain-stick ritual and uses traditional es-sential oils to harmonize your spirit.

Jojoba & Prickly Pear Body PolishThis desert-inspired treatment at The Spa at Four

Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North com-

bines deeply penetrating jojoba oil with the healing

properties of prickly pear to leave the skin smooth

and moisturized.

Sonoran Desert Inspiration

Agave Body GlowBanish dry skin with this full-body polish at Agave,

the Arizona Spa at The Westin Kierland Resort

(above). Your treatment begins with an invigorat-

ing exfoliation using the spa’s signature salt scrub

that’s been infused with natural agave extract. An

application of agave lotion seals in moisture and

nourishes your skin.

The curative properties of many Sonoran Desert botanicals have been celebrated for centuries. Try one of these

innovative treatments that find their inspiration in indigenous ingredients and traditional Native American healing

techniques.
