ART IN MOTION: A VIDEO EXPERIENCEJan 25 6:30 – 9:00 pm
With the return of the Gold Palette ArtWalk, “Art in Motion: A Video Experience,” the
SGA looks to build on Scottsdale’s position as a leading proponent of video art. The
digital video “revolution” of the 1990s has created wide access to sophisticated editing
and control technology, allowing many artists to work with video and create interactive
installations based on video. The SGA will curate and present video artists who will
create a video trail of art projected on buildings, in the streets, within galleries and
on store fronts. This experience will engage attendees as they become immersed in
interactive video art works while the SGA and City of Scottsdale continue to be a forward
programmer of this ever growing art niche.
WESTERN SPIRIT Feb 8 6:30 – 9:00 pm
Scottsdale is famous around the world for its rich Western heritage. Scottsdale galleries
are globally recognized as a destination for Western art collectors, architecture, Western
style events and Wild West enthusiasts in general. Many of the galleries in the Scottsdale
Arts District exhibit traditional Western art as well as innovative contemporary Western
themes. “Western Spirit” Gold Palette ArtWalk celebrates with an evening of great
Western art, music and food. This event is during the City of Scottsdale’s Western Week
with events occurring throughout the week. Scottsdale residents and visitors will have
the opportunity to participate in an evening of true “Wild West” spirit.
A TASTE OF SCOTTSDALE: EAT, DRINK & ART April 5 6:30 – 9:00 pm
With the recognition that life’s many pleasures often intermingle, the SGA is determined
to create an exciting Gold Palette ArtWalk to prove that great art, food and wine are
best together! Galleries will feature food from various Scottsdale Arts District restaurants
while Arizona wineries and local tasting rooms will provide the drink. Well-fed and palette
quenched, visitors will stroll through the galleries all featuring new art exhibitions.
NATIVE SPIRIT March 1 6:30 – 9:00 pm
Arizona’s Southwest experience is enriched by the intrigue of ancient cultures of the
Native Americans that inhabited this area long before modern man. Many beliefs and
rituals are still practiced and are reflected in the Native arts produced today. In celebration
of this rich history of culture and art, “Native Spirit” Gold Palette ArtWalk will host artists
and celebrate the many themes of Native art, food and music. Please note the “Native
Spirit” ArtWalk is a destination event that will coincide with the Heard Museum’s annual
Indian Market in Phoenix. Tribes from around North America converge in the Southwest
to share their diverse cultures.
WORTH A 1,000 WORDS March 22 6:30 – 9:00 pm
For one night, Scottsdale Arts District galleries will feature one of the world’s most
popular art mediums, photography. The Gold Palette ArtWalk, “Worth a 1,000 Words,”
will feature a vetted exhibition and contest for Arizona photographers with entries
exhibited throughout various galleries. Many of the photographers will be present to
discuss their work with enthusiasts. As always, live music and entertainment will be
featured on the streets. You are invited to come and experience the power and passion
of the still image!

composition and emotion. Ranging in size from miniature to

“This studio/ gallery is nestled in a corridor with other
renowned working artists who welcome clients into their
studios. There is a spirit in my oil painting which describes
busy moments of waiting, thinking and daydreaming in the
bustle of a hurried world. The relationship between figures I
leave unresolved, so that the viewers are left with something
to think about as they become a participant in the scene.”(L.
Sandbulte) Leslie began painting in her youth, and after
earning her BA and teaching credentials in visual arts she has
taught art in schools, museum settings, and privately. Leslie’s
work is represented in several major galleries nationally and is

Delicately emerging from the landscape, Diamond Bloom
serves as an icon marking the southern edge of Scottsdale’s
arts district. Reminiscent of a cactus flower, the sculpture’s
radiant changing qualities of light, shadow, and color
contribute to its dynamic botanical form. Two upward
sweeping arcs converge above creating a passageway to the
formal entrance of Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of
the West. The brass panels, dichroic glass fins, and colored
lights are strategically placed to produce a luminous colorplay
both day and night.

Ed Mell is one of Arizona’s premier artists. Jack Knife was his
first large-scale sculpture. The bronze stands over eight feet
high on its base and is modeled after Scottsdale’s official city
seal, a rider astride a bucking horse.
“Jack Knife has a reverence for the Old West. It is not
traditional, but yet it has a traditional theme. The angularity
accelerates the power and energy of the rider and horse, more
than accurate depiction.” –Ed Mell
