How To Use Your Scout Riflescope

Eyepiece FocusingThe eyepiece can be focused so that thereticle appears sharp and black to anyindividual’s eye. Follow this procedure toquickly adjust the focus:

1. Point the scope at the sky or a plainwall and take a quick glance throughthe scope. If the reticle appears sharpand black, no further adjustment isnecessary.

2. If the reticle does not appear sharp andblack, take quick glances through thescope while rotating the eyepiecefocus ring until the reticle pattern issharp and black.

NOTE: Do not look through the eyepieceas you turn the focus ring. Your eyes willadjust to the out-of-focus condition.

Windage/Elevation Adjustment The low profile adjustment knobsfeature a finger adjustment for bothwindage and elevation. Clicks are firmand audible. For easier adjusting, use acoin to turn the knob. Click values equal1/2 in/100 yards (2.75x models) or 1/4in/100 yards (2-7x models). Turret capsprotect the scopefrom dirt andmoisture, andprevent accidentaladjustment changeswhen in the field.

Mounting the ScopeWe recommend using high-quality ringsand bases when mounting your Scoutriflescope. Scout riflescopes mount wellforward on the rifle – in front of theejection port – to allow for unobstructedaccess to the cartridge port. Qualitycomponents ensure that your scope willremain safely and securely mounted, andwill provide the maximum accuracy. Usecare when mounting your scope asdamage can be caused by impropermounting.

Care & MaintenanceScout riflescopes are fully waterproof andfogproof. In the event that the lenses aresubjected to dust, dirt or mud, follow thesesteps to clean and protect the lens surface.Failure to remove grit before final cleaningis sure to damage lens coatings. Coarsedirt/debris must be removed from the lenssurface. The most convenient way to cleana lens surface is to use a Lens Pen. Positionthe scope so particles will fall away fromthe lens, and then use the Lens Pen or softbrush to gently whisk away the debriswhile blowing on the lens to dislodge theparticles. For heavy dirt, like dried mud, usea spray of clean water or lens cleaning fluidto remove the dirt.

Your Scout riflescope will provide reliableperformance given reasonable care andtreatment. All moving assemblies arepermanently lubricated.Only occasionalcleaning of the outside of the scope andthe exterior lenses is required. Neverdisassemble your scope. Disassembly byanyone other than our factory will void thewarranty. If you have any other problemswith your riflescope, contact BurrisCustomer Service.

Scout Riflescope ReticlesBallistic Plex™

The Ballistic Plex reticle is a copyrightedBurris design on the lower verticalcrosshair that compensates for bulletdrop. The Ballistic Plex reticle is set toprovide precise aiming from 100 yards to500 yards for many of the most commonhunting cartridges. Examples of the actualbullet path for many of the most popularcartridges are available for download onour website at www.burrisoptics.com.

The Ballistic Plex reticle is extremely usefulregardless of the cartridge you choose toshoot. Each ballistic line represents someexact yardage for whatever cartridge youshoot. It only takes a simple trip to a long-distance shooting range to make yourown yardage chart to correspond to eachballistic line for your cartridge.

Simple to Use1. Sight-in exactly at 100 yards or 200yards depending on your cartridgeand bullet selection.

2. Set your scope to the highestmagnification.

3. Determine the bullet path of yourcartridge at the climatic conditionsyou will be shooting. We highlyrecommend firing at each 100-yardincrement for best accuracy. Recordthe results of your rifle/cartridgecombination for future reference.

4. Determine the distance to yourtarget and select the correspondingballistic line. Slight holdover or undermay be necessary to handlein-between yardages.

Practice Makes PerfectThe Ballistic Plex is much more accuratethan guessing holdover and faster andmore reassuring to most shooters thanusing target-type adjustments. The nature of ballistics is such thateverything is theoretical and if anyone of the variables change (altitude, temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, bullet design, barrel length, chamber fit, seating depth, etc.) so doesthe ballistic performance. For maximumaccuracy, practice at long ranges undersimilar conditions to those which youwill experience in the field.
