Lenten greetings, all! Wow…is Easter really less than a month away? So far this year I have enjoyed a wonderful vacation to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and experienced learning, worship and fellowship at the APCE Annual Event in Louisville, Kentucky. Just this last weekend, my favorite middle son married the girl of his dreams and the “one” I have prayed for since the day he was born. Time flies these days. We find ourselves busy, busy, busy with very little time to be still and know. That’s what I’m working on this Lent… experiencing a stillness that allows me to depend more on the God that I serve. My prayer is the same for you. I am excited about what lies ahead for SCRAPCE. At the annual event in Louisville, a new structure for our organization was presented. The Executive Council will continue to tweak the new structure and we will rewrite bylaws. As our roles in our churches change, so must the way we serve educators across our region. Please see the explanation of the “new” SCRAPCE structure elsewhere in this newsletter. Feel free to contact me with your thoughts and suggestions as we continue our visioning and planning. Also in Louisville, we elected new officers and Presbytery Connectors. We welcome Jenna Campbell, President Elect, and Miatta Wilson, Communications, to the SCRAPCE Executive Council. Julia Boyce has agreed to assist Mary Marcotte in the Continuing Education Coordinator slot. Also joining us are two new presbytery connectors, Laura McKinstry from Grace Presbytery and Darci McKinnon from Indian Nations Presbytery. Thank you all for agreeing to serve! Note that we still have vacancies in the APCE Connector slot and in some of the Presbytery Connector slots. I would love to talk to you about how you might be a part of what we are planning for our organization. May the remainder of your Lenten Season be filled with peace and a sense of the true presence of God. And may those you serve know more about Him, as you plan and assist in the ministry our Lord has called you to.

EDUCATOR CERTIFICATION…HAVE YOU CONSIDERED IT? PC (USA) seeks to recognize and enhance the ministries of persons called to serve the church as Christian educators by certifying them as Certified Christian Educators or enrolling them as Christian Education Associates.

Purposes of the Process:1. Standards for the preparation and performance of Christian educators, both professional and volunteer.2. Mutual accountability between the denomination’s councils and the Christian educator.3. To set specific achievable goals for the on-going development of Christian educators and to foster support for them as they pursue these goals.4. To lift up the need for continuing education for Christian educators.5. Levels of educational leadership assist denominational councils in defining their own needs and in determining just compensation, commensurate with the level of their need.

Are you interested in pursuing Christian Educator Certification?  You can learn more about this process from Mary Marcotte ([email protected]), Kristi Button ([email protected]), or Jenna Campbell ([email protected]) who serve on the denomination’s Educator Certification Committee. Or check out www.pcusa.org/christianeducators for more information.
