For my AS Level Film Studies portfolio, I have followed my textual analysisof two thriller lms We Need To Tal A!out "evin #Lynne $amsay, %",&'(()and The $oommate #*hrstian + *hristiansen, %S, &'(() where I analysedhow the lms portrayed fear and isolation throu-h the use of technicalaspects In my creative artefact, I will portray fear and isolation in similarways that my two chosen lms did I decided to create a two.minute shortlm in which a youn- -irl arrives home and !elieves she is safe !ut is thenattaced !y a mysterious -ure

I created a script for my lm and focused on ndin- two male actors forthe prota-onist and anta-onist roles and also three female roles Theprota-onist had to !e a!le to portray to the audience the feelin- of fearand isolation /ust as the characters in my chosen lms had to do The

anta-onist had to !e a!le to show that he had complete power and controlover the prota-onist The three females had to !e a!le to show fear asthey are the victims in the lm I held auditions for the roles so that I coulddecide who could !est portray certain emotions to the audience throu-hthe characters I auditioned two males for each part and also auditionedtwo females for each part

1ylan was a smart, innocent teena-e !oy until his dad passed away whenhe was (2 %p until the a-e of (3 he was in and out of foster homes andeven spent a few months in the psychiatric ward !ecause his mother had!e-un to drin excessively and could not tae care of him 4nce hereached adulthood he was thrown into the deep end and was left to fendfor himself 5e found a /o! !ut was livin- in a!andoned !uildin-s and onthe streets until he eventually -ot a house and moved in 5e was so alonethat he !e-an to create people in his mind lie 6ichael 1ue to theloneliness, 1ylan felt forced !y 6ichael to -o out and ill women 1ylan isan outcast and is isolated from society !ecause of his past and cannotseem to mae friends 5e has a -irlfriend !ut ills her at the end of the

lm leavin- him with no one

This actor met the re9uirements for the character of 1ylan 5e was smalland 9uite sinny which is what I wanted in order to hi-hli-ht the fact that1ylan is an introvert Aron was very enthusiastic a!out the role !ut wastoo condent and could not portray the theme of isolation well 5e had a-ood understandin- of the lm and its -enre !ut was una!le to portray the

theme of fear 5owever, he was a!le to present the theme of isolation wellwhich is the main theme that 1ylan had to portray 5e did not deliver thedialo-ue accurately which was a ma/or pro!lem as the dialo-ue was one of the most important technical aspects used in the two lms I textuallyanalysed I did not choose this actor !ecause of these reasons as he wasnot what I was looin- for in 1ylan

After the performance of this actor for the role of6ichael, I realised that he was very enthusiastic a!outthe role, 5e was very condent !ut was una!le to

seem sarcastic and seemed 9uite serious which is not what I wanted6ichael to !e lie in the lm It was clear that he did not read over the

lines !efore the audition as he paused at certain points in order to maecomments a!out the script and the idea of the lm 4nce he delivered thelines he was unsure of what facial expressions to use so he ased several9uestions a!out this showin- that he was not in touch with the role andcould not relate 5is !ody lan-ua-e and facial expressions were -ood oncehe has -ured out how to match them with the dialo-ue !ut it did notseem natural 5is physical !uild and hei-ht was not what I ori-inallywanted for the role of 6ichael so I decided that I would not choose thisactor

of The <irl I !elieve that each of these actors and actresses are traditionalrepresentations of *aucasian people in thriller and horror lms +achperson suits the role well !oth physically and emotionally as they madeconnections with each other and the characters and I !elieve thatto-ether, they will help to create a successfully two.minute lm
