Community – Matthew 4

• The Calling of the First Disciples – 18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea

of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20At once they left their nets and followed him.

Community Starts With Us

• God joins us together with others.• It is up to us to find ways to relate to

those others.• When we do relate, we find strength

walking together.


Community

• The Calling of the First Disciples • 21Going on from there, he saw two

other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Community Grows

• It is the way of God to continually grow.

• We should not become static in our relationships.

• There are others waiting on us to ask them to join.


Scripture – Luke 4

• 16He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.

back up His decisions and thoughts.

• 1 John 2:6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Passion Comes From Scriptural Living• When we engage life guided by scripture, our

passion builds.• Passion from scripture and right relationship

with Jesus will energize us when all else is not working.

• Passion from scriptural understanding of God’s heart will lead you into right decisions.

• Right decisions lead you into His specific will for your life.


Separation

• Luke 20 23He saw through their duplicity and said to them, 24"Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?"

• 25"Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

Scriptural Living is Different• We are not called in Christ to be

normal humans. • He wants us to think and act different

than the world.• We are in the world, doing what the

world needs done. But we are not of the world. We must change our thoughts to a higher order.
