Intrusive (spontaneous, unwanted) and obsessive (persistent, recurring) thoughts and doubts about moral-spiritual issues, which produce distressing levels of anxiety and the quest to rid oneself of that anxiety, usually by engaging in compulsive behaviors or mental rituals or by avoiding trigger situations
