Adam wants to enrol clients in full-term courses.

A popular restaurant chain in Melbourne has been implicated in a food poisoning outbreak. Ten customers that have visited the restaurant in the past 48 hours have contracted salmonella poisoning. Six have been hospitalised so far. Public health officials have traced the outbreak back to two northern suburbs locations of the restaurant. The restaurant is currently preparing an official response to the situation.

Phillipa is the owner and manager of ‘Exam Success’, a Melbourne-based business that creates learning and revision materials and provides tutoring services for Victorian students in Years 11 and 12. It is almost the end of the school year, and Phillipa is starting to consider her staffing needs for the following academic year.

a. Explain the importance of workforce planning. (2 marks)

Phillipa has determined that she needs to hire a full-time business management specialist. She would like to employ this person to tutor students, as well as to: create individual learning plans for students; create teaching, revision and tutoring material; and to assess student work. The successful candidate must have a relevant tertiary qualification as well as a teaching qualification, Victorian Institute of Teaching registration (or a working with children check) as well as experience teaching VCE Business Management in a high school setting.

b. Describe how Phillipa could use job analysis to help her recruit for this position. (3 marks)
