Our HistorySouth Coast Winery Resort & Spa began with a young boy’s dream when five-year-old Jim Carter traveled by train from Ohio to California to visit his father. As he gazed outside the window, Carter was captivated by the seemingly endless miles of vineyards in Ranch Cucamonga. Back home, he would gather seeds from the huge maple tree outside his house and plant them in his relatives’ yards. Carter’s childhood passion for growing plants and cultivating the earth would later establish the family-owned and operated business.

In 1981, Carter’s father encouraged him to purchase 400 idyllic acres in Temecula Valley. Over a decade later, Carter and his team tended the rich soil and cultivated the finest wine grapes in the region. He recruited expert winemakers, and the first grape crush at South Coast Winery took place in 2002. Two years later, the first wines were entered in competition. In less than a decade, South Coast Winery has won over 1,700 regional and international awards, more than any other winery in the nation.

Temecula’s magnificent beauty inspired Jim Carter to develop a luxury resort with villas, a gourmet restaurant and spa on his property. “Guests not only enjoy the finest wines paired with the finest foods, they stay in private villas right in the middle of a vineyard,” Carter said. “South Coast Winery Resort & Spa gives them a glimpse of our lifestyle in one of the most beautiful places in Southern California.”

Our WinesThe world-class winemakers at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa combine age-old growth and harvesting techniques with modern winemaking science to produce a wide range of fine wines. Our high-quality grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks and age in oak barrels imported from France and around the world.

In 2008, South Coast Winery was the first winery from Southern California to win the Golden State Winery of the Year award from the California State Fair. Our continuing pursuit of excellence earned South Coast this honor again in 2009 and 2013. These accolades are only two of our more than 1,700 awards, medals and ribbons from domestic and international wine competitions.

From whites and sparkling to reds and rosés, our exquisite wines will enrich your dining experience or add the perfect touch to any occasion.
