Established in 1981, McAlpine Grant Ilco is a dynamic company that hasbecome well-known for providing the best in professional consultancy, design,installation and project management services to assist customers withtemperature control in their many diverse environments.

This comprises providing cooling and air-conditioningservices, refrigeration, freezers, cold rooms and heatingsolutions for businesses, public and charity organisationsalike. Clients include BMW (UK Manufacturing) PlantOxford, DKNY, Greene King, Cancer Research, OxfordRadcliffe Hospitals Trust, Louis Vuitton and KFC & BurgerKing franchised outlets. At MGI, we help customers design and install new systems in new sites as wellas offering a temperature control rethink in existing locations. In addition, wealso expand or modernise current facilities where required.

Keep in Control with MGIWe recognise that in office and factory location, keeping theenvironment continuously comfortable (not too hot or too cool)has far-reaching benefits. These include lessened employeestress and more contented customers and staff. 3. Heating SolutionsMGI provides a variety of new and modified heatingsolutions for a wide range of customers, withinmanufacturing sites, modern offices and historicbuildings.

Our tailored solutions are based entirely on yourspecifications, following a visit to your premises byone of our experienced designers. Moreover, we can combine heating andair-conditioning in one energy efficient package to save you money, and helpyou keep your working environment in control.

4. Planned, Preventative Maintenance

MGI provides tailored maintenance services to over1,500 locations across the UK, looking after a variety ofair-conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems.What’s more our 24-hour helpdesk is available to clientsseven days a week as a central coordination point and afirst contact during an emergency.

Designed around individual requirements, our clients feel safe in theknowledge that we will be there when we say we will, and using specialistsoftware we track every aspect of the job through to completion. We offer ascheduled service where we commit to a programme of agreed maintenancethroughout the year and a rapid-response service, available 24/7, for thoseunforeseen issues.

5. F Gas Regulations – (EC) 842/2006 (F-Gas)

F gases (fluorinated greenhouse gases) are commonly found in refrigeration,air conditioning and heat pump systems. There are new EC Regulationsrelating to equipment containing F Gases from the 4th July 2007. Thelegislation is aimed at limiting the release of F Gases through regular andrecorded leak checking and equipment maintenance by certified personnel.

MGI has fully certified engineers that can provide a bespoke andcomprehensive maintenance service to ensure total compliance for ourclients to the new regulations. Our staff will design a fully compliant leakdetection and maintenance programme suited to the size and number of yourplant.

9. Accreditations & Associations

As part of MGi’s commitment to customer services, quality and safe working, webelong to a number of important associations. These are outlined below:

Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly HVCA)McAlpine Grant Ilco is a full member of B&ES whichrepresents the interests of firms active in the design,installation, commissioning and maintenance of heating,ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration products andequipment. Our membership number is:F487900/HV007105.

As a B&ES member, MGI is required to adhere to the Association's Code ofFair Trading and to commit to best practice in all our commercial dealings. Weare also subject to regular, third-party inspections and assessments by BMTRADA (a recognised certification body with a track record in the constructionindustry) to ensure both MGI’s commercial and technical competence.

The commercial capability assessment covers administrative and businesssystems, financial and training records, insurance arrangements, health andsafety, environmental and equal opportunities policies.

The technical assessment takes place on-site and involves the inspection ofwork in progress against a broad range of standards, devised and compiled byB&ES in collaboration with BSRIA.

Standard Maintenance Specifications for Services in Buildings (SMG2000)Prior to 1990, there had been no standard document covering the maintenanceof heating, cooling and ventilation plant in buildings. However, as equipmentbecame more reliable, a tendency to relax the maintenance of plant emergedcausing customer dissatisfaction and energy wastage.

As a result, the HVCA (now B&ES) in association with the Chartered Institute ofBuilding Engineers (CIBSE), the Building Research Energy ConservationSupport Unit (BRECSU) and the Department of Energy developed the‘Standard Maintenance Specification’ which aimed at maintenance contractors,provided a contractual standard against which to evaluate and enforceadequate maintenance standards.

As a B&ES member, McAlpine Grant Ilco has adopted SMG2000 as amandatory standard for both tendering and carrying out maintenance work. Thisstandard covers proprietary HVAC equipment, encompassing maintenanceactivities, safety, working with electrical equipment, record keeping, energyefficiency and emissions.

Environmental AgencyMcAlpine Grant Ilco has been issued a Waste ManagementLicence (Licence number: TWE 675222253) by theEnvironmental Agency for the safe carrying of waste andreclaimed refrigerant. Waste management licences authorise thetreatment, keeping or disposal of controlled waste and ensurethat waste management facilities: do not pollute the environment,do not harm human health and do not seriously detriment localamenities.

In addition to these objectives, waste management facilities must also beprepared, developed, operated, restored and completed to high standards. TheEnvironment Agency imposes comprehensive, enforceable and clear licenceconditions to help them meet these objectives.

The legislative basis for waste management licensing is provided in Part II ofthe Environmental Protection Act 1990 and associated regulations.

BESCAMcAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is an accredited andchecked member of BESCA (Building EngineeringServices Competence Accreditation Ltd).

Where works represent a material change to controlled services, they arerequired to be compliant with and notified under the Part L of the BuildingRegulations. McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd is a member of the Competent PersonsScheme (England & Wales) operated by BESCA, and can, if required, registertheir works (once completed) with the relevant local authority and issue aCompliance Certificate as documentary proof that the installation meets theBuilding Regulations. Failure to comply with the requirement to advise LocalAuthority Building Control of notifiable works could result in prosecution underThe Building Act.

10. Health & Safety Overview

Health and Safety PolicyMcAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd conforms to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974,the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 and otherrelevant legislation. It is our policy to provide, maintain and seek to improvestandards of health and safety. Operation practices, which safeguard allemployees and result in safe working conditions and efficient operation, mustbe followed. Health and Safety ProceduresMcAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd ensures that all staff are aware of their responsibilitieswhile at work. All policies and procedures apply on customer sites as well asMcAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd’s own premises. On customer sites, the senior teammember, will have overall responsibility for enforcing Health and Safety on thatsite and site specific Health and Safety procedures will be issued to all teammembers. General points include that all staff have a responsibility:

¾ To take reasonable care of their own and others’ health and safety in theirimmediate work environment, including ensuring they are wearing thecorrect protective clothing and that they conduct themselves in a safemanner, leaving their work area neat and tidy.

¾ To co-operate with all parties so that they may comply with their obligationsunder the Health and Safety at Work Act/Regulations, familiarisingthemselves with the location of the Health and Safety notice board and ofthe building in which they are working.

¾ Not to interfere with or misuse any equipment or materials provided in theinterest of health, safety or welfare either intentionally or recklessly.

¾ To bring to the attention of their Manager, any concerns or complaints theyhave concerning health and safety matters, reporting faulty equipment, andincorrect signage.

¾ To ensure that they do not undertake any duties on their own for which theyhave not been fully trained.

Safety audits are regularly carried out on sites to ensure that all regulations arecomplied with.

CommunicationsWith most MGI engineers working on client sites, either permanently ortemporarily, communications are of paramount importance. As a result, we usetechnology in every way possible to facilitate easy communications between allparties. All MGI engineers are equipped with the following:

x Mobile Telephonex PDA, for job notification, progress update and access to plant records.

In addition our service vehicles are equipped with “CTrack” vehicle trackingtechnology, which provides real-time vehicle movement information, allowingthe most efficient journey planning.

MGI continue to use the latest in service solution software to ensure that clientsget the best in contract management and job coordination.

Our day to day activities such as call logging, automated workorders, job and service call management, service scheduling,service calls and preventative maintenance are all integratedinto one complete fully computerised “Protean ”CMMS(Computerized Maintenance Management System).
