Introducing the 2015-2016 Brochure & Map This year's cover theme was inspired by using only local photography and emphasizing the landscapes that make our towns such a Great Escape! 70,000 copies were printed and 7,500 will be distributed to Welcome Centers throughout the state. In addition, 5,100 Brochures will be included in copies of The Local Observer to subscribers throughout our west coast. Copies are also available at The Information booth at Culver & Butler, The Saugatuck Drug Store, Map Kiosks and Businesses throughout Saugatuck and Douglas. Bulk quantities can be acquired by calling 269-857-1626 to arrange pick up or possible delivery.
Annual Spring Kick Off! Our Annual Membership Spring Kick Off, hosted by The Saugatuck Brewing Co. on April 20th, was very well attended as we introduced the new map & brochure, discussed upcoming events and future projects. It was a Great Opportunity to meet new members and catch up with our local business neighbors. The delicious food donated by our hosts included hot spinach dip, shrimp, chicken on skewers and more! After our gathering, we were invited to a behind-the-scene tour of the brewery.
Thank You Saugatuck Brewing Co. for being such Generous Hosts!
Saugatuck’s 2015 Tony Vettori Citizen of the Year
Star of Saugatuck owner Marilyn Starring has been chosen Saugatuck’s 2015 Tony Vettori Citizen of the Year.
The award, named for the late city councilman and mayor who helped found it, honors “an outstanding city resident who has demonstrated exceptional community service, whether it be for extraordinary achievement in public service, sports, arts, music, science or an act of heroism, while fostering community participation and involvement. Along with her support of countless non profit organizations, Marilyn served as Secretary of SABA for many years with tireless dedication always giving her extra time to the business community. We could not think of a better person more deserving. Thank You Marilyn Starring for your constantly giving spirit!
The Saugatuck Douglas Area Business Association, in conjunction with our local Saugatuck High School
Art Students, announces the winner of our 2015 Sparkle Ornament design contest.
The winning design was created by Nick McDuff. Nick is a student of Danielle Hanna’s advanced art program. In celebration and recognition of 35 years of service to the community, Nick’s design embodied the spirit and functionality of the Interurban trolley. The ceramic ornaments will once again be produced by Deneen Pottery and available for sale around local shops by Memorial Day weekend. David Langley, SDABA Board member and owner of Serendipity Bed and Breakfast has lead the Sparkle Committee and produced record setting sales in 2014. He will be at the helm again, guiding the ABA through the Sparkle Campaign. The price of the ornaments remains at $10. Proceeds aid the Sparkle Campaign will help facilitate the city’s holiday lighting extravaganza. In recognition of Nick’s fine work and appreciation for all the contest submissions, the SDABA hosted a pizza party at the high school art department and presented Nick with $100 in SDABA bucks. Phyllis Yff, Executive Director of the Interurban was in attendance to thank Nick for his hard work and creativity. This year the Interurban will carry SDABA brochures for our visitors along with the award winning ornament while supplies last. Other students who submitted outstanding designs include: Marie Pena, Elsie Hayden, Madison Walston, and Marena Tedaldi.
