BOONE SOLO & ENSEMBLE INFO
Saturday, March 5, 2011 @ Colonial High School
All participants are expected to know the following information«
Arrival time: Please arrive at Colonial High School early and be warmed up when you see me. You need time to findyour judges¶ room, get warmed up, use the restroom, etc. Since I have not received room numbers yet, you may have tolook for signs or ask around to find your assigned room.
What to wear: It is important that you arrive dressed to impress! I expect students to arrive wearing ³Sunday´ clothes.Boys should wear a suit or shirt and tie with slacks and dress shoes, and girls should wear a dress or other more formaattire. Please be conservative-- this is a choral event, not a club. =)
What to bring: YOU are responsible for having TWO copies of the books you need. Miss Langa says she will take care ofthis for her students. Ms. Stead, however, will not be there²so her students need to make sure that THEY bring bothcopies of the book or that I have them. I have 16 students to keep track of, so please write it down for me if you needsomething and be specific.
Warm-up: Arrive warmed up in case there isn¶t time for a group warm-up. We are tightly scheduled!
Etiquette:
y Before you sing, please introduce yourself with the following information²first and last name, age, grade, andwhat you will be singing²that means song titles and composers.
y Unless its extremely disruptive, personally thank your judge, accompanist, and voice teacher. I don¶t mean agroup chorus of ³thank you!´ from across the room.
y Turn off your cell phone, act like you¶re happy to be there, watch and listen to the other performers and the judgewhen they are speaking. It is appropriate to clap for each performer!
y Enter or exit the room with the group. It is extremely rude to be moving or opening the door while someone issinging.
How long to stay: Students are expected to stay for all the performances in their assigned group. Sometimes, this tightlyscheduled event starts to run late. Please be prepared to be on site for up to 3 hours in case this happens.
Driving Directions: From Boone, go east on Curry Ford (or the 408 if you prefer). When you reach Semoran, turn
left/north. When you reach Oleander Drive, turn right. You will find CHS at the end of the street. There may be signs forFVA or Solo & Ensemble that you can follow.
Who is welcome to attend: Performers are encouraged to bring close family members or friends to this performance tobe part of your audience. Remember that this is an evaluation, not a concert²so make sure your guests understand thatPhotos and video are fine, but no flash photography!
Contact me: If you have any problems that day, call my cell phone. If you don¶t have that number, ask me today. Keep inmind that I will be in a room watching my students perform from 9-1 that day, so you may need to call/text someone elsefrom Boone if you need immediate help.
Let me know if you have any questions! ±Mr. Doherty
