From the Principal Dear Parents,
PYP COMMUNITY EVENING
A huge thank you to all the parents and families who supported the PYP community Evening last week. We know our staff and your children value your time when you join us for events such as these. The classrooms were looking magnificent and the children showed confidence in their presentations. We have had a lot of feedback from families and other visitors expressing their pleasure and enjoyment at seeing what the children are learning about and hearing their reflections of the PYP. Thanks to Kerrie O’Brien and Ann O’Connor for their preparation of the night. Please see Kerrie’s full report on page 4. COMING EVENTS FOR YOUR DIARIES NOVEMBER

Phillip Island Adventure Resort - Grade 3 Camp
Excited Grade 3 students counted down their days
at school until it was time for their long awaited
first time experience embarking on a 3-day camp
to Phillip Island. Parents and students said their
goodbyes with hugs, smiles and some tears before
hopping on the bus
On the way to Phillip Island, we stopped at San Remo
to watch a really informative bird display and students
saw some rather large and very hungry Pelican birds
being fed. Once we arrived at camp, students hit the
ground running as they were assigned their cabins and
got straight into a wide range of fun and exciting
activities. From the challenging initiative course to the
giant swing, the Seabrook Primary School kids gave it
all they had with their positive energy and enthusiasm.
Camp was so much fun! My favourite part
was the rock climbing. It was really exciting.
(Charlotte, 3RB)
‘I really liked the Giant Swing because it
was over 10 metres high’.
(Joel, 3HT)
Phillip Island Camp
Our second day at camp saw a wild day of weather,
with periods of torrential rain, high winds and even
bursts of hail. Unfortunately, all outdoor activities
were cancelled as a result, but this didn’t dampen
the spirits of our first time campers. Students made
the most of the conditions and took part in a wide
variety of fun indoor activities, such as camp
cooking, game shows, and indoor rock climbing.
Students gave it their best by committing themselves to showing a caring, cooperative
and empathetic attitude towards each other throughout the entire experience.
‘My favourite thing about camp was the
rock climbing!’
(Brock, 3HT)
My favourite part of camp was
the Giant Swing because it
made me scared and excited
at the same time.
(Stephanie, 3KM)
‘I was so enthusiastic when I went
on the Giant Swing because it
was about 80 metres long and it
went really high!’
(Kevin, 3KM)
PYP Community Evening Night 2013 Another wonderfully successful PYP Community evening was presented last Wednesday 30
th
October 2013 for the Seabrook community and what a night it was! We had many family members and friends present and it was fantastic to see everyone happily participating and taking part in such a lovely school community event.
Every Seabrook student demonstrated their PYP knowledge, understanding and learning through various presentations, songs, work and portfolios and every grade was outstanding! Prep students presented their learning about the Learner Profile where they sang songs and demonstrated their understanding of being risk takers and communicators. Year 1 students demonstrated their understanding of the Attitudes focusing on respect. Year 2 students explained more about International Mindedness and Artefacts, through songs and sharing their artefacts. Year 3 students showed their understanding through their work about the Transdisciplinary Themes. Year 4 students presented their knowledge of the Concepts through presentations, discussions and their work. Year 5 students talked about and presented their learning about the Transdisciplinary Skills. Year 6 shared their Exhibition work in the year 1 building.
We also had some grade 4 students dance an Italian cultural dance 'La Tarantella’ in the courtyard, the art rooms were open and games were played on the oval.
We also had some guests from outside our school community visit on the night including Joanne Ryan who is the Member of Parliament for the Lalor area and some teachers from other PYP schools, all who had positive feedback and praise for Seabrook.
Nights like this cannot happen without the support of our wonderful Seabrook staff, so a huge thank you all staff for their dedication and support for this event!
Thank you to our Seabrook community for your attendance and participation in this night. All Seabrook students should be very proud of themselves and their performances on the night, it was a terrific night!

The children in 1HD welcomed their families
into our room to showcase one PYP attitude that
we have been focusing on during this inquiry.
We started with a short movie presentation that
welcomed our families to our PYP night and
informed them on what the children were going
to present.
After the video, the children read out the actions
that they had taken to show that they respect the
environment. After everyone had read out their
actions, the children sang a song for their parents.
The song “We’ve got the whole world in our
hands” was chosen as it reminds us that the
future of our environment and everything that
lives in it, is in our hands.
The children displayed confidence, creativity,
enthusiasm as well as respect while preforming
for our families.
It was a great night and everyone had a fantastic
time!

Your child’s Youthsaver account is graduating to high school. Starting high school brings a lot of changes – new uniform, new books and new friends. Thankfully if your child has been taking part in School Banking, their bank account can stay the same. That’s because a Youthsaver account will grow with them, so it’s one less thing you have to worry about. In high school your child can bank via NetBank – our award winning online banking program. It makes it easy for them to manage their money and allows you to stay in control by tracking their account and spending. You can also transfer any allow-ance or gift money online to their account. If you wish, you can apply for a keycard for your child so they can access their money from our large network of ATMs. You also have the option to lower the daily withdrawal limit on the keycard, so they don’t blow all their savings. Another way you can stay in control. To make sure they get off on the right foot managing their own money, we’ll be continuing their financial education with fun programs and competi-tions all the way through high school. Good luck with your child starting high school. For more information, or to open a Youthsaver account for your child, visit any Common-wealth Bank branch or go online to commbank.com.au/teenbanking
