Business Group definitionBusiness Group definitionOne business group or multiple
business groups?Implemented with one business
group using US localization.– Large and dynamic expatriate employee
population.– Simplicity– Company is based in United States.
Location of ServersLocation of Servers
The physical location of the servers didn’t have a major on affect speed.
The time and dates will always be in the time zone of the server. Identify all functions that are influenced by time.– All functional processes will have to be
designed considering time and datetracking.– Developers will have to design interfaces and
reports with special time considerations.
User interface customizations User interface customizations and enhancementsand enhancements Custom responsibilities based on payroll
used to satisfy global security requirements. Form customizations were needed to satisfy
the requirements of 17 countries. Options were:– Oracle’s Forms Configurator– Custom Library
Custom libraries were chosen for form customizations. The driving factor was the speed.
User interface customizations User interface customizations and enhancements (Continued)and enhancements (Continued) PC standards were different globally
driving the need for one Oracle user interface that worked on all PCs.
Options for accessing Oracle HRMS– Standard user interface using J-Initator– Terminal emulation
Terminal emulation was chosen as the way end users would access Oracle Applications.
User interface customizations User interface customizations and enhancements (Continued)and enhancements (Continued)Terminal emulation was chosen over J
Initator for some of the following reasons: All PC could use the terminal emulation
programs. Many PCs would have to be upgraded to
run Oracle’s J-Initator. Ease of maintenance. No major performance issues.
Defining flexfields and work Defining flexfields and work structures with a global, common structures with a global, common perspectiveperspective Locating and retaining the required
functional staff and functional process owners.
Globalize work structures and key flexfields.
Organizations deserve special attention in a global company.
Benefits process owners will have to be identified for each localization.
Data ConversionData Conversion Collecting required data from a central
corporate repository or from each local site? BOTH!
How much history will be converted?– Point in time conversion– Basic history only
“Big Bang” conversion vs. converting in “Waves”. Waves
Collecting and converting different languages.
Maintaining Production DataMaintaining Production Data
Global Human Resources call centers
Internal Human Resources Information Technology staff
Oracle’s Employee and Manager Self Service modules.
ConclusionConclusion Strong executive sponsorship was
essential for the project’s success:To encourage global the cooperation required
for global common design of processes. To bring in necessary resources, both human
and technical. A single instance, single business group
solution simplified:Creation of global common business practicesData management from both a technical &
functional perspective.
