any type of nuts. We appreciate your support in this matter.
16 October, 2014
It has been another fantastic week at Seaham Public School.
Our students continue to work hard and behave in a very
positive manner. On Tuesday we uncovered an old box of
White Seaham Jumpers which were destined for the paint shirt
box. They seemed to have become a fashion “hit” as many
were borrowed during the cold snap on Tuesday and
Wednesday. We did announce and remind our students that
they did not fit in with our current uniform, however we will sell
them to anyone who is interested for $5. They could be a
great “keepsake” for our Year Six Students to collect signatures
on. If you would like one, they can be purchased from the
K/1S room for $5.
Planning Week: All of our teachers have had a planning day
this week. They have been relieved from class in their stage
groups to work on integrating Science and History into our
scope and sequences. This work is part of the planning and
implementation of the new Australian Curriculum.
Fantastic Achievement: Jayden Hancock is in Sydney today at the State
Athletics Championships competing at Homebush in the Discus. We wish him well
and we will have a full report in next weeks newsletter. Cooper Thew also
continues to excel in basketball making the NSW Under 14’s Country Basketball
Side. Cooper will play in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in January.
Well done to both boys.
School Planning (Community Workshop): A reminder that next Tuesday, 21
October, I am holding two planning sessions where community members can come
and hear about findings so far and comment and contribute to directions they want
our school to head in. The sessions will be from 9am to 10am and from 5pm to
6pm. Please RSVP by ringing the school office, indicating which session you would
like to attend.
Mango Fundraiser: On Monday flyers were forwarded home to families in relation to the healthy
fundraiser that the P&C are giving families the chance to take part in. The Mangoes will be delivered
straight from the farm, “Kensington Pride” to our school. Kensington Pride Mangoes are renowned as
the best in the world with the most pleasant flavour and smoothest flesh. Tray’s of Mangoes weigh 7kg,
with 14-20 mangoes in each tray. Trays are $25 each. As a school, we have to place a minimum order
of 64 trays (please offer this to your family, co-workers, friends and neighbours). We ask that families
support this healthy fruit innovative. Orders need to be submitted by Wednesday, 29 October. Please
contact the office or visit our web page for additional order forms if needed.
Canteen: Thanks to everyone who has returned their order for next Tuesday's special lunch day. The
last day to get your orders in to the office is tomorrow, Friday 17 October.

family statements. Your prompt attention to the outstanding amount is
needed. Schools Financial Year ends on 30 November. It is essential that
payment is received before 14 November. We thank you for your cooperation
in regard to this matter.
Kinder Orientation: Our Kinder Orientation for 2015 is fast approaching. It
would be appreciated if those families that have not returned their enrolment
forms and information, could do so prior to orientation day.
2015: Preparations are underway for the start of the 2015 School Year. If
your child/ren will not be returning to Seaham Public in 2015, please contact
the office. If you know of anyone moving into the Seaham School Zone, it
would be appreciated if you could please advise them to contact our office.
Staff Car Parks: Just a reminder to families that parking in the staff car park
is not permitted at any time. This is a Departmental Policy that requires your
support. We thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Thank You: We would like to thank our Seaham families for their support
with the recent change to Family Afternoon Pickup Guidelines. Your continued
support with waiting in the undercover area of an afternoon for your child/ren
when picking up is very much appreciated.
Gold Merit Reward: Children are working very hard to achieve their gold
merit card. Those students that have reached this goal will be rewarded with
a bowling session at the Raymond Terrace Ten Pin Bowling Centre.
Stage Three Camp: The Stage Three Camp is fast approaching. Families
are asked to please finalise their payments at their earliest convenience. This
camp will be a great life long memory for our students.
Lion’s Club Donation: In
last week’s newsletter we
mentioned the fantastic
“hearing dog” which was
donated by Clarence Town
Lion’s Club. We thank
Janelle O’Neill from Dungog
Chronicle for the below

Good for Kids good for Life
Tempting your tastebuds: Some children take time to develop a liking for a range of vegetables. Although at times this can be frustrating and the temptation is to give up, it’s important to continue offering vegetables regularly as they are packed with nutrients that children need.
So how do we tempt children’s taste buds? It’s important t o know that children often need to be exposed to a food 8-14 times before they will start to accept the taste or texture of the food. The trick is to keep offering the food, showing that you enjoy eating it and encouraging your child to taste o r try that food.
When it come s to vegetables, it helps to serve them in different ways - some children love vegetables raw but not cooked, some love them baked but not steamed and some only like them served separately and not mixed together.
The key is perseverance. Below are some great vegetable ideas:
Serve them as finger food as they a r e e a s y t o p i c k u p . Serve them in different shapes by using a small biscuit cutter. Serve vegetables with dips such as cottage cheese, salsa, hummus etc. Mix vegetables into pa s ta and r i ce d i she s . Involve children in preparing and growing vegetab les. Th is increases their familiarity and willingness to try new vegetables.

Welcome Back Madison: This week
we welcomed back Madison Griffis to KL.
Madison has had a very exciting five
months with her family. Madison has
climbed Ayres Rock, attended school in
Alice Springs, and travelled throughout
Darwin and Queensland. Seeing and
feeding the crocodiles were Madison’s
favourite thing.

Getting organised for Term 4: Welcome back to school! Keep track of the week numbers of each Term and help your family stay on top of the million and one things happening this time of year with School A to Z's monthly planners. They're easy to print out and pop up on the fridge for all to see. You might even want to print a spare for each child's bedroom so there are no excuses for them to forget homework, chores and other weekly activities. http://bit.ly/UbmQz8 Public speaking made easier: Many people rate speaking in public as one of their worst fears. But it’s an important skill for kids to master, which is part of the reason why we start them off with News in Kindergarten and progress to other presentation skills from an early age. Helping your child prepare their s p e e c h e s a n d presentations at home will r e a l l y b o o s t t h e i r confidence. Here are practical tips any parent can use: http://bit.ly/Kr3ukB Motivating “laid-back” children: Why do some children prefer to lead a lazybones life, while others love to tear around the sports field? Is it a hereditary trait? And what can parents do to encourage those children to get up off the sofa, or switch off the computer, and get a little physical? Find out more: http://bit.ly/1s5TN5Z Lunch box ideas: Kids tired of the same old sandwiches for lunch each day? School A to Z’s Lunchbox section has some fresh ideas to help busy parents add some healthy, fresh variety to school lunches. http://bit.ly/qsfDOE
