Term 4, Week 2

Principal’s Message Dates For Diaries

Due to enrolled children’s life threatening Anaphylactic Allergic reactions to all nuts and peanut products.

We would like to encourage families not to send these products to school with their children. These include

peanut butter, nutella, sesame seeds, loose nuts, muesli, nut or chocolate bars or any products containing

any type of nuts. We appreciate your support in this matter.

16 October, 2014

It has been another fantastic week at Seaham Public School.

Our students continue to work hard and behave in a very

positive manner. On Tuesday we uncovered an old box of

White Seaham Jumpers which were destined for the paint shirt

box. They seemed to have become a fashion “hit” as many

were borrowed during the cold snap on Tuesday and

Wednesday. We did announce and remind our students that

they did not fit in with our current uniform, however we will sell

them to anyone who is interested for $5. They could be a

great “keepsake” for our Year Six Students to collect signatures

on. If you would like one, they can be purchased from the

K/1S room for $5.

Planning Week: All of our teachers have had a planning day

this week. They have been relieved from class in their stage

groups to work on integrating Science and History into our

scope and sequences. This work is part of the planning and

implementation of the new Australian Curriculum.

Fantastic Achievement: Jayden Hancock is in Sydney today at the State

Athletics Championships competing at Homebush in the Discus. We wish him well

and we will have a full report in next weeks newsletter. Cooper Thew also

continues to excel in basketball making the NSW Under 14’s Country Basketball

Side. Cooper will play in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in January.

Well done to both boys.

our school to head in. The sessions will be from 9am to 10am and from 5pm to

6pm. Please RSVP by ringing the school office, indicating which session you would

like to attend.

Good for Kids good for Life

Tempting your tastebuds: Some children take time to develop a liking for a range of vegetables. Although at times this can be frustrating and the temptation is to give up, it’s important to continue offering vegetables regularly as they are packed with nutrients that children need.

So how do we tempt children’s taste buds? It’s important t o know that children often need to be exposed to a food 8-14 times before they will start to accept the taste or texture of the food. The trick is to keep offering the food, showing that you enjoy eating it and encouraging your child to taste o r try that food.

When it come s to vegetables, it helps to serve them in different ways - some children love vegetables raw but not cooked, some love them baked but not steamed and some only like them served separately and not mixed together.

The key is perseverance. Below are some great vegetable ideas:

Serve them as finger food as they a r e e a s y t o p i c k u p . Serve them in different shapes by using a small biscuit cutter. Serve vegetables with dips such as cottage cheese, salsa, hummus etc. Mix vegetables into pa s ta and r i ce d i she s . Involve children in preparing and growing vegetab les. Th is increases their familiarity and willingness to try new vegetables.

Getting organised for Term 4: Welcome back to school! Keep track of the week numbers of each Term and help your family stay on top of the million and one things happening this time of year with School A to Z's monthly planners. They're easy to print out and pop up on the fridge for all to see. You might even want to print a spare for each child's bedroom so there are no excuses for them to forget homework, chores and other weekly activities. http://bit.ly/UbmQz8 Public speaking made easier: Many people rate speaking in public as one of their worst fears. But it’s an important skill for kids to master, which is part of the reason why we start them off with News in Kindergarten and progress to other presentation skills from an early age. Helping your child prepare their s p e e c h e s a n d presentations at home will r e a l l y b o o s t t h e i r confidence. Here are practical tips any parent can use: http://bit.ly/Kr3ukB Motivating “laid-back” children: Why do some children prefer to lead a lazybones life, while others love to tear around the sports field? Is it a hereditary trait? And what can parents do to encourage those children to get up off the sofa, or switch off the computer, and get a little physical? Find out more: http://bit.ly/1s5TN5Z Lunch box ideas: Kids tired of the same old sandwiches for lunch each day? School A to Z’s Lunchbox section has some fresh ideas to help busy parents add some healthy, fresh variety to school lunches. http://bit.ly/qsfDOE
