STARTING YOUR DISHWASHER

• Load the dishwasher (see pages 11and 12).

• Add detergent (see page 10).

• Close the door but do not latch it.

• If dishwasher drains into a food waste

disposer, operate disposer until it isempty.

• Turn on hot water faucet nearestdishwasher and let it run until the wateris hot.

• Push selector buttons for desired cyclesand options.

• For all cycles but LIGHT WASH andRINSE & HOLD, slowly turn the Dial to

PART.Then latch the door to start the•,shwasher.

If you plan to use the LIGHT WASHor RINSE & HOLD cycle, push theNORMAL WASH button and turn theDial to the desired cycle. Then latchthe door to start the dishwasher.

If you plan to use the PLATE WARMERoption (which is for warming clean dishesand plates for the serving of hot foods),follow these steps:

1. Load clean dishware to be warmed.

2. Make sure HOT DRY is selected.

3. Be sure the door is unlatched.

4. Slowly turn the Dial to PLATEWARMER.

5. Latch door to start the cycle.

• You'll hear occasional sounds while yourdishwasher is running:

• Soft food disposer shredding action.

• Drain valve opening to pump waterout.

• Timer control as cycle progresses.

• Detergent cup opening.

• Pump motor startlng.

• The motor stops during drying.

HOW TO ADD A DISH DURINGA CYCLE

• Add dishes any time during RINSE &HOLD cycle.

• With other wash cycles, you can adddishes at any time BEFORE thedetergent cup has opened.

Here's how to add a forgotten dish:

1. Push door latch to the left. Washing willstop.

2. Wait a few seconds until the water

calms. Then open the door.

3. Add dishes you've forgotten.

ENERGY AND WATER SAVINGTIPS

• Wash full loads.

• Use your dishwasher during off-peakhours.

• Use the LIGHT WASH cycle wheneverpossible.

PREPARING DISHES FORWASHING

• Prerinsing of normal food soil is notnecessary.

• Scrape off bones, seeds, skins,toothpicks and other hard soils.

• Remove hard shelled vegetables,meat trimmings, leafy .vegetables, andexcessive amounts of oil or grease.

• Remove foods with high acid content--they can discolor stainless steel.

• Remove large quantities of any food.

• When using the POTS PANS cycle, lesspreparation is required. This cycle canwash heavily-soiled dishes and removedried-on and baked-on soils from pots,pans and casseroles. However, itemswith burned-on soils may not comeclean.

You'll find two detergent dispensers onthe inside door of your dishwasher.

Open cup

Do not add detergent until you are readyto start the cycle. Use fresh detergent.

The dispenser will automatically releasedetergent at the correct times during thecycle.

Always close the main cup tightly. Whe .is firmly latched you will hear a clickingsound. It is not necessary to overUghten.

NOTE: To open the detergent dispenserafter it has been closed, unlatch the doorand rotate the Dial a full turn to the OFF

position. When the closed cup containssoap it is best that the door be in.apartially open position before rotating theDial. This will help reduce the amount ofdetergent and rinse aid agent spillage intothe tub.

Unscrew the'cap. Note the FULL lineon the tip of the cap. Add the liquid rinseagent until it just reaches the top ofthe FULL line. Replace the cap. Thedispenser automatically releases therinse agent into the final rinse water.

LOWER RACK (appearance will vary)

NOTE: Do not load large platters or traysin front right corner of lower rack. Theymay prevent detergent from circulatingin the wash cycle.

The lower rack is best used for plates,saucers, and cookware. Large items suchas broiler pans and racks should go in thelower rack along the edge. Load platters,pots and bowls along the sides, incorners, or in the back. For best washingresults, all items should be positioned withthe soiled side of the dish facing thecenter Of the "rack.

Put flatware in the removable basket vfork and knife handles up to protect yo--.hands. Place spoons in the basket withhandles down. Mix knives, forks andspoons so they don't nest together.Distribute evenly.

Small plastic items, such as measuringspoons and lids from small containers,are not recommended for automatic

dishwashing. If placed in dishwasher, theyshould go in bottom of utensil basket withsilverware on top.

Keep center area clear in thelower rack.

The Wash Tower rises through the centerof the lower rack during the wash and rinseportions of the cycle. Don't block it or loadtall things next to it.Also, be careful not tolet a portion of an item such as a pot ordish handle extend through the bottomrack. This could block the wash arm andcause poor washing results.

CARE OF SURFACES

• Clean outside cabinet finish with a goodappliance p_lish wax. DO NOT usescouring pads, harsh or gritty cleaners.

• Interior is self-cleaning with normal use.If it should ever need cleaning, use amild cleansing powder. If hard watercauses lime build-up, clean as follows:

--Pour 2 cups white vinegar into emptydishwasher. DO NOT use detergent.

--Operate machine on NORMAL WASHcycle.

PROTECTION AGAINSTFREEZING

If dishwasher is left in an unheated placeduring the winter:

• Shut off water and electrical power.

• Remove access panel.

• Disconnect Water lines from valve. Drain

into a flat pan.

• Drain collection chamber at rear of unitbelow filter by disconnecting hose topump.

• Remove plastic pump cover in tubbottom and use sponge to soak up anyremaining water.

• Reconnect water lines to valve andhoses to pump.

CARE OF AIR GAP

If an air gap was installed for your built-indishwasher, check to make sure it isclean. Air gaps are usually mounted onthe countertop and can be inspected byremoving the cover. The air gap is not partof your dishwasher and is not covered bySears warranty.

PREPARATION FOR MOVING

• Disconnect electricalpower.

• Turnoff watersupply,disconnectwaterand drainlines.

• Tape racks in place; close door securelyand tape it shut.

• Wrap with blankets and, if using a handtruck, lift dishwasher from side in uprightposition only.

• To remove suds from tub: Open dishwasher.Let suds evaporate. Add 1 gallon of coldwater to tub. Close and latch dishwasher.

Pump out water by slowly turning Dial until adrain period is reached. Repeat if necessary.

• Spilled rinse agent can cause foam duringwashing. This can lead to overflowing. Wipeup accidental spill of rinse agent with adamp cloth.

SOLUTION , :_

• Raise water heater thermostat to 140°F if ::necessary.

• Do not select COOL DRY drying option. Allowdishes to dry in heated air.

• Load dishes so items drain properly. Avoid• overloading.

• Fill rinse agent dispenser if empty.

• Fill detergent cups to capacity. Use dishwasherdetergent with highest available phosphorouscontent. May be necessary to installa watersoftener.

• Raise water heater thermostat to 140°1.

• Drying without heat may cause somespotting. Do not select COOL DRY option.

-Use more fresh automatic dishwasherdetergent. Use detergent with highestavailable phosphorous content,especially if you have hard water.

• Use only fresh, automatic dishwasherdetergent. Store tightly closed in a cool, dryplace. Discard old, lumpy or separateddetergent. Do not fill detergent dispenseruntil ready to wash.

• Fill rinse agent dispenser.

To remove stubborn spots and film frm.glassware:

1. Remove all metal utensils from thedishwasher.

2. Do not add detergent.

3. Select POTS PANS cycle.

4. Start the dishwasher and allow to run for18 to 20 minutes. The dishwasher will nowbe in the main wash.

5. Then open the door and pour 2 cups(500 ml) white vinegar into bottom ofdishwasher.

6. (_lose the door and allow to complete thecycle.

If vinegar rinse doesn't work: Repeat asabove, except use 1/4 cup (60 ml) of citricacid crystals instead of vinegar. (Mostdrugstores carry citric acid crystals.)

SOLUTION

• Reduce amount of dishwasher detergent

Use detergent with lowerphosphorouscontent

• Make sure dishes and glassware are loadedproperly to permit water spray to rinse allsurfaces, Do not overload.

• It is normal for a small amount of clean waterto remain in bottom of tub after each cycle.

• Clean the drain air gap. See UserMaintenance Instructions.

• Install an iron or manganese filter in homewater supply.

• Use fresh, automatic dishwasher detergent.Use detergent with highest availablephosphorous content, especially if you havehard water. Raise water heater thermostat to140°F if necessary. Run water at sink until hotbefore starting dishwasher. Remove film withdishwashing detergent and warm water.

• Avoid spilling dry detergent on wetsilverware.Clean withsilver polish.

• Use RINSE & HOLD cycle.Certain foods lefton silverware for extended periods of time maycause pitting.

• Remove tarnish with silver polish.

•Load metal utensils so they do not rubagainstdishes. Marks may be removed with mildabrasive cleanser and plastic scouring pad.

• Do not overload. Load glasses in upper rackonly.See Ldadingsection for tips.

• Use RINSE '& HOLD cycle if dishes willnot bewashed at end of day.

SOLUTION .

• If you do not use your dishwasher often,set it to fill and pump out once every week.

• This will help keep the seal moist and thegarbage disposer clear.

• This _,ill discolor the tub interior with extendeduse. Check the detergent dispenser for signsof any discoloration. If dispenser is discolored,change to detergent without any colorant.

• Using the RINSE & HOLD cycle after addingdish to the load can decrease the level of staining.

• This is a normal occurrence.

• Dial must be in OFF position for cup lid toclose and latch properly. If you unlatch thedoor and open it to dry your dishes, the Dialdoes not advance to OFF by itself.
