  • kokoro Dance (canaDa) performs A Simple Way, embodying the concepts of yugen (profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe… and the sad beauty of human suffering) and wabi (transient and stark beauty)-sabi (the beauty of natural patina and aging).

    khambatta Dance company (Seattle, Wa) performs Truth and Betrayal spinning “questions of trust and deception into a tangy affair with a lightly cruel edge.” The company of five dancers bring “a lithe, elegant, gymnastic twist to their entanglements” [Seattle Times]

    presents a collaboration of different traditions bringing together West

    African, hip-hop, ballet, and martial arts. Two stories. Two worlds. Of

    the same spark and for a moment fed by the same wind.

    tere mathern Dance (portlanD, or) performs Gather, a dance about convergence, digging in, interdependence and the moment of interaction. A collaboration between Tere Mathern Dance and the music group, Battle Hymns & Gardens including saxophonists Reed Wallsmith and Joe Cunningham both members of the critically acclaimed Blue Cranes.

    IDan cohen (ISrael)recipient of the 2012 Israeli Ministry of Culture’s award for Young Artists and one of Israel’s leading young independent choreographers will present Wayfarer. Set to Mahler’s composition, the piece manifests the inner journey of the wanderer, searching for symbols and images of a home. Surrounded by bird songs and the beauty and abyss of nature, The Wayfarer walks on unstable, fragile ground, looking for a haven.

    paIge barneS performs Coyote, inspired by shamanic practices and the healing medicine that animals possess and inspired by a wood carved coyote totem unearthed while living in ecuador in 1997.

    corrIe beFort peforms Aphorisms, a three part solo, each a kind of living conundrum, a surreal and impossible query generated through interaction with composer Tom Baker.

    alIce goStI performs a vogueing piece, exploring femininity and an open investigation of gender and aesthetics.

    beth gracZyk performs Celia, a sensual disintegration of iconic French philosopher Henry Corbin’s voice, passing between forms and states to reveal the anonymous history of a woman.

    JoDy kuehner performs a new untitled work. An audience surprise. Be ready for anything.

    Danny long performs a premiere of pot roast, aprons and June Cleaver (My life as a black gay housewife) about the role of men as care takers/givers.

    DevIn mcDermott performs The Marble Made Our Cheeks Look Pink, a solo where a moving body navigates memory emotionally

    lou henry hoover (Ricki Mason, choreographer) performs Future Purchase a drag/dance/theater solo exploring themes of fatherhood, aging, and expectations that are associated with masculinity using stylized cabaret and burlesque genres

    amelIa reeber performs We need another Saxophone!, an investigation of Masculine/Feminine balance and the function of the human body.

    Shannon SteWart performs Come.Get.To.This.is to approach making a work in a transparent and straightforward way - it is a narrative about resources, the economy, and transitions.

    amy JohnSon performs MADMen, Inspired by the 1912 Technical Manifesto of Futurist Sculpture, MADMAn is a physical dance work set to an original score by Seattle artist Matt Holmes. This piece was made within the guidelines of the Manifesto and choreographically shaped by its rules.

    baDmarmarDance presents an excerpt of Without Context or Provocation, a work personal to choreographer Marlo Martin. “In June last year, my three-year son told me ‘mom, I want you to move into my dad’s house and we can all live together’”. each of us walk around with stories within ourselves…sometimes we share a part of it most times we keep silent.

    corolIS Dance presents Insofar as the Landscopic Field Report combining live music, film, and a sculptural set. It tells the story of two extraterrestrial travelers on a mission to explore a seemingly deserted terrain and follows them through the difficulties presented during the process of discovery.

    aShanI DanceS/Iyun aShanI harrISon performs Like Sand Through My Fingers exploring a young man’s loss of love and the emotions he traverses to reconcile his guilt. Set to eugene Ysaye’s stunning Violin Sonata #2 In A Minor.

    Shannon SteWart performs Come.Get.To.This.is to approach making a work in a transparent and straightforward way - it is a narrative about resources, the economy, and transitions.

    The festival presents a special evening celebrating the unique relationship between Seattle and Portland curated by Tere Mathern and co-presented with Conduit Dance Center in Portland.

    allIe hankInS performs Like a Sun That Pours Forth Light but never Warmth amalgamating herself with nijinsky’s most poignant roles, steering imitation into the realm of transformation and self-discovery.

    DanIelle roSS performs Together We Fall with Taka Yamamoto in collaboration with vocalist Holland Andrews and composer Christi Denton, unearthing the tensions - emotional ranges,trajectories and symmetry - of operating in a duo.

    lotuS boDy/tara Dyberg Canadian choreographer/Seattle resident Tara Dyberg, performs net//Works with sound engineer/composer Jesse French exploring inclusive and exclusive mentalities toward immigration and border crossing.

    umamI perFormance, directed by Aiko Kinoshita + Aaron Swartzman, present excerpts from Constellation Half-Remembered with original sound score by Amy Denio and Beth Fleenor, on the subject of memory and its malleable, impermanent, and central role to self-identity.

    kate WallIch + the yc presents It Girl and Them, an image based deconstruction of her throne through articulated form and saturated scene. Concept/direction/choreography by Kate Wallich performed by key collaborator/dancer, erica Badgeley with sound design by Lena Simon.

The real yet surreal performance exposes the fragile and volatile nature of relationships, featuring an electronic visual installation by Alissandru Caldiero and electronic music by audacious performance poet/ story teller, Steve Hilmy,

    DancIng people company (aShlanD, or) is recently back from the OPenLOOK festival in Russia performs a trio of dance works; Threshold, about remaining within the confines of a small patch of grass, ephemeral Lifetimes, a duet inspired by all the possible lifetimes one could have had, and untitled, about the process of unwrapping the soul.

    WuZa WuZa (ghana, WeSt aFrIca) anD verSIon excurSIon (Seattle, Wa) merge two influences from east and West. These two companies come together in a collaborative performance entitled, Full Circle. Dancers from both companies join each other onstage, bridging the gap between two very different cultures and exploring the facets of human experience in a fusion of traditional African and contemporary dance.
