Three-year term; 8 candidates, vote for no more than 4

Jean Thompson – Joined Rotary in 2003 as the first Young Rotary Leader when the program was established. Jean co-founded the Young Rotary Leaders committee, has served as Secretary to the Board, and has presented at past Rotary District conferences and the RI Convention in 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal. Jean is current Co-Chair of the International Service Committee (ISC). With three years on the ISC grant evaluation subcommittee, she has evaluated and scored international service grant proposals through ISC for the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation. Jean organized the vendor day camp and family friendly activities at last year's District conference, including hosting a kit build for Syrian refugees. Jean is an Associate General Counsel at World Vision, Inc., a humanitarian non-profit that works in over 100 countries focused on partnering with children, families and their communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Her work as an attorney includes multi-state employment law and working with government grant agreements and regulations. Jean's 6 year old son, Hunter, will be attending his second Rotary District 5030 Conference and the day camp this next year in Portland, OR in April 21-23, 2017.

Margaux Kendall enthusiastically joined Rotary in 2014. She currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Young Rotary Leaders Committee. Her favorite Rotary endeavor so far was the opportunity to spend four months planning and co-chairing the SRSF Rotary Fundraising Program with Lauren Domino and several other key SRSF leaders in 2015—a program that received wide acclaim and was labeled one of the best in many years.

Margaux began her journey in service while independently raising funds to support Nadia, a courageous young war-torn Afghan woman who completely transformed her worldview. Since then, she has devoted ten years to learning how to successfully unite people, causes, and resources and never looked back. Margaux was delighted to accept her “dream job” recently—Stewardship Manager at Malaria No More. She previously served as the Corporate Partnerships Officer at Museum of Flight and managed a portfolio of donors with gifts ranging from $1,500 to $15 million. Margaux holds a certificate in Fundraising Management from UW and BA in History from Whitman College. She currently serves on the board at Mwanzo, a grassroots nonprofit focused on education and sustainable farming in rural Kenya, and lives in West Seattle with her husband and two mischievous beagles.

Cynthia Chirot – Joined the Seattle International District Rotary in the fall of 1986, as part of the original group of 15 women Rotarians admitted to the ID club that year. Served as ID Club President in 1990-1991. Joined Seattle 4 in 1997. Rotary roles have included VP Service, Co-Chair of the 2004 Rotary Centennial grant committee and Chair of Environment and Rotary Boys and Girls Club Committees. Served on scholarship selection committee this year and mentors a selected student.

My career includes COO roles in the corporate and nonprofit sector, first at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle. My passion for community service, inspired through Rotary, led me to work in the nonprofit arena for the past 11 years including as COO at the Washington Women’s Foundation and at the American Red Cross of Western Washington, among others. I am currently advising a Seattle area nonprofit on organizational development and staffing. I serve on the boards of the Group Health Foundation and PeaceTrees Vietnam. I would be honored to serve on the Foundation Board, as I have seen through my work on Rotary service committees what amazing things they accomplish in our community and our world with our investments.

Thomas W. Mesaros – I initially joined Seattle Rotary in 1979 and left the club when I moved to Springfield Massachusetts in 1992. During this 13 year period I chaired the membership committee and the music committee, was a Keek Counsellor for two years, and served two years on the club board of directors when Don Weaver was president and Phil Smart was president. During my time in Springfield I joined Rotary there and continued my perfect attendance during the transition to Springfield and my return to Seattle three years letter. I rejoined Seattle #4 in 1995 and have been a member of the Invocation Committee and the International Service Committee. I currently have 36 years of perfect attendance working on year 37.

Professionally I have spent my entire career working in not for profit management, first for the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America and afterward with the Sisters of Providence Health System in foundation and philanthropy leadership both in Seattle and Springfield. I joined the Alford Group in 1995 as a regional vice president and became president of the firm in 2003; we advise not-for-profit organizations on fund raising, strategic planning, governance and management. Currently I am senior counsel to the firm. - My community activities include the following: member of the Edmonds City Council (my term ends in December 2019); member of session at Madrona Grace Presbyterian Church; board member of the Giving USA Foundation; chair of the fund raising committee for the Edmonds Veterans Plaza; and member of the Rainier Club.

Each Wednesday Rotary is a natural high for me! Since I joined Rotary, I have had 100% attendance. Goodwill for 10 years. If I am fortunate to represent you to further our mission, I will do my best!

KEN COLLING

A proud, second generation Rotarian, David joined Seattle 4 within his first month in the city. Jumping right in with our club, at his first Pro-grams Committee meeting, David assumed responsibility as Day Chair for President Sue’s Inauguration program. Active on several committees, David is currently working on a membership initiative to selectively introduce Rota-ry to Seattle’s best and most accomplished. If successful, our club will further develop our cultural, social and business diversity. ‘Service above Self’ runs in his blood as he vividly remembers going with his dad on Thanksgiving and Christmas mornings with fellow Rotarians to help prepare and serve meals for those less fortunate. David and his wife Lisa live on Mercer Island with their two daughters, Talia and Emily where you can find all of them involved in their community. Professionally, he helps people make smart decisions with their personal insurance planning.

This scholarship will increase the diversity within the maritime community. I am a passionate pragmatist. I have two dogs who run faster than the wind and a cat that makes me sneeze. I serve the people of Washington State with my work aboard the Washington State Ferries. To further that

organization, I gained new insights by attending the Evans School at the UW. My personal motto is ‘leave it better than you found it’, and that is why I am drawn to Rotary.

I speak on brain health, self-care and stress reduction. In the past I worked in academia, research, and at the Alzheimer’s Association. Five associations have elected me to serve on their boards, including the Na-

tional Council of Family Relations. My overall professional and personal goal is to help people live a little less in their heads and more in their hearts. My goal in Rotary is to continue to be thrilled and stimulated by the people I meet every week. If I can help strengthen the club and foster engagement among members, I would be honored.
