investments in renewables « Photovoltaic » and « Wind energy »

« E-Mobility » requires additional capital or energy efficiency increase for compensation

Increased demand on grid management and scalability requires synchronic investment in energy and information grid « Smart Grid »

Synergies

Harmonizing Civil Engineering Work is one positive leverage for FTTH, but:

o “Synergies in terms of costs are

overestimated1”

o “Common Civil Work actions of

Energy, Gas, Water & Fiber can

decrease single costs by r.a.

20-50%1”

DSO Business Options for Telco-activities

1 Step: only operating passive FTTH-infrastructure, renting the grid to one or more telecommunication service providers

Example: Fiber Optic Cables, Micro-Duct Systems, Hybrid-Solutions

2 Step: beside passive also management of the active (telco + power) infrastructure

Example: above stated + Switch Systems 3 Step: using own strong and close position to the customers, to position

own telecommunication services and products. Bundling of products, White label products

Example: own brand including all services, establishing new market segment

ROI at industrial level?

First results show internal ROIs at DSO level of 20-25 years based on IRR 6%

Leverages within the Business Plan:

Reduce the Cash-to-Cash Cycle (time offset between spending and revenues)

Harmonize Actions

Invest in the right passive and active components

Decide at least: Energy Installation + Micro Duct (hidden reserves)

Build up cooperations or Non Profit Organization (NPOs)

Telecommunication (TC) is not economically, if TC systems are installed within others activities, with no time-close returning revenues

Conclusion

Helping to create a brighter future!

DSOs can directly or indirectly support the FTTH rollout

Synergies can be created, but are limited

FTTH creates new potentials for additional business models and technologies

FTTH is a long-time investment, but with a low-risk character

Need for increasing investments to generate additional economies of scale
