Why must have a project journal? Why must have a project journal?
• Record of ALL your project development & progress
- keep track of what you are doing (the specific conditions for each experiment, data, problems faced, how you solve them etc)
- possible for any other member to repeat any part of experiment
- easy for mentor to monitor your progress
- help you to reflect on your research journey
Project journalProject journal• Available in bookshop• Record of
- content page- procedure including diagrams - results (in the form of table)- graphs (print out and paste)- meeting notes - reflections
• Show mentor regularly (during IS)• 10% of IS mark

For science fair such as Singapore Science and
Engineering Fair, Project journal will serve as the
Project Log Book.
Judges may look through the log book to check
rigour of project.

-Weigh 1.00 g of NaOH pellets into a beaker.- Add about 50 ml of DI water to dissolve.- Transfer solution into a 250 ml volumetric flask using a filter funnel and glass rod.- Made up to the mark with DI water.- Shake flask to obtain a homogeneous solution.

Anomalous result
Suggest what could possibly be the reason
To repeat/discuss with mentor
Average % removed = (60+52+90)/3 = 67.3
Comments on data/Reflections
3rd data is anomalous. The final concentration is significantly different from
the 1st two data.
Possible reasons:• The beaker could be contaminated.• Error in weighing.• Difference in stirring time.
Follow-up• To repeat whole set of experiments.• To discuss with mentor

Powerpoint Presentation
Powerpoint presentationsPowerpoint presentations
• Required for prelims, semi, finals, grand finals.
• Required in some science fair - Shell science fair
- East Zone science fair- SEAMEO Search for Young Scientist
Regional Science Congress- Japan Rits Science Fair
• Concise and easy to follow (avoid wordiness)
• Engaging (image/animation/video)• Organised (Flow chart/table)• Easy to read (suitable font size, colour
contrast)• Use Standard font like Arial
Powerpoint presentationsPowerpoint presentations
• This page contains too many words for a presentation slide. It is not written in point form, making it difficult both for your audience to read and for you to present each point. It is too lengthy and will not be able to engage audience. In short, your audience will spend too much time trying to read this paragraph instead of listening to you.
