EOM is at work in many ways to minister and serve the people of Kenya and to further the gospel among the people of Homa Bay County and the surrounding areas. One of the ways we have been involved in this ministry is through financial support for The Widow’s Voices (TWV). Here is a report on their work from Betty Saida: Director of TWV. Greetings in Jesus Name. God has been so faithful to us throughout the year by providing the resources we need to run this ministry. We focus on four main needs: evangelism/discipleship; food distribution; economic empowerment; and shelter support. The ministry has in place weekly Bible studies, monthly prayer meetings, and annual conferences. This gives the opportunity to study the word of God and bring growth to the kingdom. Because of widows’ vulnerability, there’s monthly food distribution. Each woman receives food worth $3.57. This is enough for only 3 days, but it means a lot to them. As part of its mission, TWV has embarked on economic empowerment programs for widows in dire need. Equipping them for the market has the potential of long term success, restoration of dignity and self confidence, hence being able to feed themselves and their children. Shelter is a basic human need. Lack of shelter means the widow and her children are open to both emotional and physical abuse. Therefore provision of shelter gives the widow and her children security as well as protection from harsh weather conditions. Through the objectives, more than 500 widows have been reached through evangelism and discipleship; 107 widows are under monthly food distribution; funds have been distributed to 50 women who are out on the market doing businesses to support their families; and 15 shelters have been built and some repaired. Second Life Class If you are interested in becoming a member here at Second Baptist Church, we have our next membership class on February 3rd. Lunch and nursery are provided, so please sign up at the Welcome Center or call the Church Office at 478-923-7101. This is a great time to find out what we believe and why we believe it! Anna’s Banquet Our Anna’s Banquet is coming up soon. This is a special time where we as a church host a dinner specifically for our widows. We want to love on you and serve you. This year our dinner will be held on Saturday, February 9th, at 4:30 PM. We will meet in the YAC Auditorium. Please sign up in your Life Group, at the Welcome Center, or through our Church Office at 478-923-7101 by February 3rd. Let us know if you need a ride as well. MVP Weekend We are hosting a MVP Weekend for our Life Group leaders. On Friday, February 22nd, at 6:30 PM we will host an appreciation banquet for you and your spouse. Then on Saturday, February 23rd, beginning at 8:45 AM, there will be breakout sessions with some of the best age-group trainers in the state. This is a great training opportunity. We do ask for you to RSVP, especially for the dinner, and let us know if your spouse is coming with you. You may email Mrs. Sue Prieto at [email protected] or call the Church Office at 478-923-7101. Preteen Event You are invited to the “60 Seconds for First” Fellowship. We will be playing “Minute to Win It®” type games, having a great meal, and crowning the “60 Seconds for First” champion. We will meet in the Family Life Center gym on Saturday, February 23rd, from 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM. The cost is $5 per person and you must sign up by February 17th.
