C Amen.

16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

19 That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors

because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing

there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. 20 As he spoke, he showed

them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when

they saw the Lord! 21 Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has

sent me, so I am sending you.” 22 Then he breathed on them and

said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven.

If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Pastor Jim

Sermon Notes – The Power of the Cross

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that

we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

1. The power of the cross is reconciliation; God making right the brokenness of

humanity.

The price of human sin – since the beginning – is death.

If there was to be reconciliation between God and man, God had to design

and execute the plan.

Paul speaks of reconciliation when he says: “We speak for Christ when we

plead, “Come back to God!”

2. Only one life mattered enough to the Father to make up for the balance of

the human race.

God had to take the Substitute, put him in the place of the sinner, and punish

the Substitute instead.

3. So what does this mean?

For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so

that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with Him. I no longer count on

my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous

through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with Himself

depends on faith. Philippians 3:8-9

FAITH: we must believe that we are sinners, that Christ died as our

substitute, and that God's

justice was satisfied as proven by the resurrection.
