If God is for us, who can be against us? — Romans 8:31b

My dear friends in Christ, We are now in the 2nd week of LentͲͲͲͲand the invitation “to repent and to turn to God “continues. In my homily last Sunday I reminded you about the many temptations that all of us will face during our Lenten jour-ney. Some of us will give in to the temptations and many of us will be victorious. We all know that our goal during this journey is to get to the waters of life at Easter. It won’t be easy! That’s why last Sunday I proposed a kind of insurance that will take us there: the triple AAA insurance! And that is the Annual Attitude Adjustment! We all know that God loves us. Everything that we see and experience is a sign of his love and blessings. In the his-tory of humanity even when have strayed away from him through our sinful ways, our loving God continues to send messengers to tell us to come home. We know that he sent his Son our Lord Jesus Christ to be the sign of his love. Many listened to him and many ignored him. Those who listened were blessed and those who didn’t were cursed. For many of us who have been stubborn in listening to him and continue to be filled with pride and arro-gance, I believe that it is time for us to remember what God has done to the people of Nineveh who were given the grace of forgiveness when they decided to repent and turn to God. In the Gospel this weekend on this second Sunday of Lent, Jesus took Peter, James and John to the high moun-tains. During this mountain top experience, Jesus was transfigured before the three disciples to give them a glimpse of the glory and peace of the kingdom. It was a moment of peace and serenity. It was a moment of bless-ing for them. Every time we gather around the table of the Lord, the high altar of gathering, we too have a glimpse of the glory of the kingdom. But we know that we are not to stay here. Just like James, John and Peter, we are asked to come down from this mountain top experience to go with Jesus to the Jerusalem. This is the mission of the Church and we are part of this experience. May our Lenten journey, 40 Days in the Desert: A Call to Conversion, be a sign of our commitment to repent and turn to our God! Your friend and servant Fr. Geoffrey

St. Anne Youth Ministry St. Anne Youth Ministry will not meet on Monday, March 5th due to the Emmaus Peer Ministry en-richment night. The next Youth Ministry meeting will be on March 12 and we will meet three weeks in a row before the Holy Week, which be-gins April 1. St. Anne Youth Ministry sweatshirts have been ordered and should be available on March 19th…the cost is $35.00 for everyone who placed an order. A Chance To Serve Consider giving a young person the gift of men-toring that will have lasting impact and is invalu-able. In 2011 Building Futures Mentoring, a national one-to-one mentoring program which strives to move youth from risk to resiliency, provided therapeutic mentoring to nearly 1,000 at risk youth nationwide. As we celebrate changing lives of so many, we look toward a new year of even greater potential by inviting more volunteers to join our caring and dynamic team. YOU can help in the recruitment of mentors by spreading the word amongst your friends, family, neighbors, work colleagues, faith professional organizations and community groups you are af-filiated with. Youth today experience overwhelming chal-lenges and with the support of a caring, consis-tent adult mentor they can thrive and manifest their potential! To learn additional information about mentoring please contact the Site Coordinator, Dianaliza Ponco. Diana will be happy to answer your ques-tions and can be reached at 510-221-6483 or [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>

FAITH FORMATION YOUTH NEWS FIRST COMMUNION For 164 First Communion students who are in their second year of faith formation and attend Tuesday First Communion classes. We Prepare – This week the young people of the parish pre-paring for Eucharist are reflecting on their gifts, which are blessings from God. As we prepare to celebrate the Liturgy of Eucharist, we give thanks to God for the gifts and blessings we have, especially the bread and wine, which will become our spiritual food and drink. How do we as a parish help others develop such a grateful heart?

PRAYER OF THE WEEK March 4, 2012, Second Sunday of Lent O God, who have commanded us to listen to your beloved Son, be pleased, we pray, to nourish us inwardly by your word, that, with spiritual sight made pure, we may rejoice to behold your glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Reflection question: How can I be more attentive to God’s word? As we celebrate these fifty years of life and ministry as a local Church, grant us an increase of grace to know you better and make you better known, so that, sustained by the intercession of your Mother and our Queen, we may obtain in the heavenly Kingdom the glory promised to your children. Forty Days in the Desert: A Call to Conversion

Our Parish Lenten Journey “Hear us, Almighty God. Show us Your mercy. Sinners we gather together.”

Catholicism DVD Series March 1, 2012 (7:45pm, Parish Hall)

Episode III “The Ineffable Mystery of God”

Father Barron considers St. Anselm’s description of God as “that

than which nothing greater can be thought,” and goes on to explain St. Thomas Aquinas’ arguments which support the claim that God

truly exists. He also speaks from the Catholic tradition about the na-ture of God and the challenging question of evil and the existence of

God. To provide a vision of the ineffable majesty and mystery of God, Father Barron invites us to the heights of the Sinai desert and

makes his way to mysterious Istanbul, walks the glittering streets of Paris and then captivates the viewer with the glories of the Sistine

Chapel in Rome.

Lenten Soup Supper & Discussion March 2, 2012 (6:00pm, Parish Hall)

“Rights and Responsibilities”

In a world where some speak mostly of “rights” and others mostly of “responsibilities,” the Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity

can be protected and a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met.

“How do you manifest your faith in your daily life?”
