Firstly, I would like to congratulate all students for comple ng their NAPLAN for 2017. A tremendous amount of effort (and stress) is put on this yearly summa ve assessment. Ul mately, the assessments are complete and students can do nothing further but await their results. I thank the parents and teachers for their focus and persistence in ensuring that students were adequately prepared and as calm as possible during the tes ng. I met with the P&C on Thursday last week and discussed the further subsidies that will now be in place for students at the school. No cost will now be charged for elec ve units within the school. Any costs that have been paid will be refunded over me. The cost to parents of year 5&6 going to The Great Aussie Bush Camp has now been more than halved. I thank the P&C for their generosity in assis ng our students to travel beyond Ashford and explore some more of Australia. Regards

On Monday the 8th of May, Ashford Central School was lucky enough to have a visit from Books 4 Outback. This is a charity organisa on which travels around New South Wales' most isolated areas giving second hand books to schools. Ross and Peter kindly donated four huge boxes of books to the school and our students. This will allow us to provide a wider reading variety in the library and may also allow us to give away the books as prizes to students as a part of our PBL program. Our school captains, Emika and Tom, were presented the books in our school library. Students have already begun borrowing and reading them. On behalf of Ashford, I would like to thank Books 4 Outback for such a wonderful dona on.

On the last week of Term 1 I was accepted into the UBS Young’s Women Leadership Acade‐

my. I was one out of forty girls to be accepted all throughout NSW. I had the great honour

to fly down to represent my school as a leader.

Throughout the week we stayed at the Women’s College at the University of Sydney to

understand what it’s like to be a Uni Student. We also had the opportunity to meet differ‐

ent leaders from the business world and people who play a role in leadership roles. Having

inspira onal speakers throughout the week taught us girls how to be strong and

support ourselves to become inspira onal leaders. We also went to UBS which is an

investment bank that offers support for companies who may need wealth assistance.

Throughout that day we got to see the trading floor where they manage their stocks.

Another opportunity we had was a ending a talk at the Art Gallery of NSW. The forty of us

were paired with a University student and stayed with them for the week. During the week

we had a games night, at the end of which I had the privilege of wearing a University

Academic gown. Mee ng girls from all over NSW created many friendships. Working with

such a strong inspira onal group has helped improve my leadership skills that I will bring

back to Ashford Central to share with uprising leaders.

Overall, I had an amazing week adventuring Sydney, exploring University life, making new

friendships, having a greater understanding of the business world, learning the importance

of taking leadership roles no ma er what career you peruse, and prac cing skills guiding

others to excel.

I would like to give a big thank you

to Mrs Lucke for taking her me

to help myself apply for the

Leadership Academy and

organising this opportunity.

Agriculture Excursion

On Wednesday 10th May, the year 9 & 10 Agriculture class travelled to “Tarrangower” on

the Emmaville Road to tag, backline, mouth, and needle the school calves.

The boys were too chicken to help in the race so it was up to the girls to do all the work!

We also recorded weights, tag number and teeth. We had poly pipe sword fights and

posed for ar s c photos.

We would like to thank Kylie and Duck Baker for having us on their farm, and Mr

Donaldson and Trevor for taking us out there.
