In July 2016, the Prime Minister established the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), creating a new Government Department that integrates policy agendas for energy and climate change with business and science whilst also developing a comprehensive Industrial Strategy.

BEIS leads one of the most challenging and critical set of objectives in Government, aiming to build an economy that works for everyone so that there are great places in every part of the UK for people to work and for businesses to invest, innovate and grow.

There has never been a more exciting time to work in BEIS, with a new, fast-paced agenda as the UK negotiates its exit from the European Union and adapts its relationships with European partners and the rest of the world.

The Prime Minister has identi ied the development of an Industrial Strategy as one of her top priorities.

Vacancy DescriptionWhat are we offering?

This is a new chapter for Britain, providing a unique opportunity to get involved in developing policy that will have a long term and wide reaching impact on the UK. Working in the heart of Government will give you the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping and influencing the direction of the UK.

We are seeking secondees to work on BEIS policies to support the department in implementing the industrial strategy, delivering on the Clean Growth Strategy and navigating the UK’s exit from the European Union.

Secondees, - who in civil service parlance are people seconded to us from non civil service employers - will work across a range of work streams. They will help to develop and deliver the analysis, governance and external engagement which will underpin successful delivery. This will require working across the breadth of Government, engaging with colleagues within the Department, No10, Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, Department for Exiting the European Union, Department of International Trade and other departments.

There are a variety of opportunities available at various levels of seniority across the Department, working in both the central EU teams and in areas such as EU Emissions Trading Systems; Business Innovation, Science and Research; UK Space Agency, amongst others.

You will be given induction and support to help you operate in Government, and you will join our secondee network.

You will benefit from a structured programme we are creating for secondees, the BEIS Fellowship. This will include training in policy development, seeing the internal workings of Parliament and working with Ministers.

Reimbursement

Depending on the role secondees are matched to, the expectation is that BEIS will reimburse the amount of the Civil Service equivalent salary, for the role and equivalent Civil Service grade. We expect that the secondee’s organisation will make up the difference if necessary to meet the individual’s current salary.

As roles are available across a variety of grades, it is expected that salaries will fall within a range of £37,200 to £70,394 (from Senior Executive Officer, through Grade 7 to Grade 6). In most circumstances, secondees’ organisations will be reimbursed at the pay band entry point.

Before the appointment of the successful candidate can be confirmed, the Department will undertake background security checks. Vacancy Description

What are we offering? This is a new chapter for Britain, providing a unique opportunity to get involved in developing policy that will have a long term and wide reaching impact on the UK. Working in the heart of Government will give you the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping and influencing the direction of the UK. we are seeking secondees to work on BEIS policies to support the department in implementing the industrial strategy, delivering on the Clean Growth Strategy and navigating the UK’s exit from the European Union. Secondees, - who in civil service parlance are people seconded to us from non civil service employers - will work across a range of work streams. They will help to develop and deliver the analysis, governance and external engagement which will underpin successful delivery. This will require working across the breadth of Government, engaging with colleagues within the Department, No10, Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, Department for Exiting the European Union, Department of International Trade and other departments.

There are a variety of opportunities available at various levels of seniority across the Department, working in both the central EU teams and in areas such as EU Emissions Trading Systems; Business Innovation, Science and Research; UK Space Agency, amongst others. You will be given induction and support to help you operate in Government, and you will join our secondee network. You will benefit from a structured programme we are creating for secondees, the BEIS Fellowship. This will include training in policy development, seeing the internal workings of Parliament and working with Ministers. It will offer the opportunity for you to benefit from, influence and add to the skills, insights and networks of BEIS and wider Government. What we are looking for Successful candidates for these roles will demonstrate a range of the following skills:

Essential:

• You must be able to be seconded from your current organisation within a reasonable timeframe, for a period of six months to two years;

• A strong skillset in delivering complex programmes and projects, and managing risk and reputation, for high profile organisations with a wide reach,;

• You will have experience in one or more of the wide range of sectors associated with the BEIS agenda so have insight into their delivery;

• You may be early career or an established operator but you’ve got to be able to fit quickly into the team;

• You must have an interest and some insight into how politics translates into policies;

Desirable:

• You might be qualified in a range of professions and bring business acumen, commercial experience, digital expertise;

• You may have worked with EU related matters before; • You may work within the business environment, consultancy, regulation, not for profit, local

government or academic/research sectors.

Reimbursement Depending on the role secondees are matched to, the expectation is that BEIS will reimburse the amount of the Civil Service equivalent salary, for the role and equivalent Civil Service grade. We expect that the secondee’s organisation will make up the difference if necessary to meet the individual’s current salary. As roles are available across a variety of grades, it is expected that salaries will fall within a range of £37,200 to £70,394 (from Senior Executive Officer, through Grade 7 to Grade 6). In most circumstances, secondees’ organisations will be reimbursed at the pay band entry point. Secondees will move into role and will remain on their employing organisation’s terms and conditions and payroll.

Sifting and selection

Terms, Conditions and Benefits
