Page 2: Secret in the Forest

I grew up hearing spooky ghost stories, none of which I ever believed in. But there was one time when I was young, at the age of twelve. I heard the story of two men who were living in the forest. This was one story I believed in it was one that I couldn’t shake. I knew that I must go and find these men from the story or at least look.

There are story’s told of two men who lived in the woods. The men are said to be hiding from the government, for they used to be assassins in their youth. But of course these are just stories, this however is not.

I had been in the forests of the Ozarks over thirty-nine times, I was like a lion hunting it’s prey, looking for the men in the past three months. I had become obsessed with finding them. But today was different I could feel it in the pit of my stomach. Today I was to find them.

I then walk out of the house beginning my journey. I walk through the forest untouched by man. The air smells crisp and clean, birds chirp amongst themselves. Then bam! I see nothing just black.

I come to an unsteady woozy wake with drips of blood coming from my forehead. I was tied down at both my arms and feet. I look around to see where I am only to learn I am in an empty shed or shack.

“Come on Joe lets go see if he is awake,” a harsh unknown voice said.

“He’s just a boy he can’t be working for the government,” said Joe or at least that’s what the other man called him.

Then the door flied open and a large man stepped in. The man was bigger than an ox,, at least six foot five inches tall and weighed two hundred fifty pounds. He had harsh cold blue eyes brown hair and a voice of steel.

The man named Joe then stepped in. He was not as large as the other about five foot seven inches and one hundred fifty pounds. He had blue eyes and brown hair. The both were brothers because they looked almost exactly alike.

The man called Tom then stepped forward.“You working for the government boy?” the man Tom

yelled.“Na-noo,” I said stuttering.“See Tom not working for the government,” Joe said.“Come on Joe lets go talk outside,” said Tom harshly.

Both men then stepped outside of the shack. I then listened to their conversation.

“He’s a liability Joe you know that,” Tom said, “he knows too much.”

“If we don’t let him go through the whole town will be looking for him, if they aren’t already,” Joe said quietly.

“Do you want to take care of a boy while on the run?” Tom yelled, “and who will try to get away.”

“Well we certainly can’t kill him if that’s what you're saying,” Joe screamed.

There was then a stomach turning howl of a hound followed by a gunshot.

“Perfect Joe the whole town is looking for him,” Tom said coldly.

“Let's go and leave the boy here,” Joe scarily said.Bam! A gunshot went off. I could see through the

cracks that Tom had shot Joe, his brother.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Tom was death killing all in sight.. Three more gunshots then complete silence. The door then pops open creaking as it does. The man Tom then steps in. His clothes were spattered with blood and he had a tear in his eye.

“This remains our secret right boy,” Tom screams.I was to shocked to say a word so I nodded my

head. “Good not a word leaves the woods,” he said while cutting the ropes.

I returned home never to speak of what happened until now.
