Your Brain/Body is In the Group (beginner group)

This concept is used to teach students to be aware of their bodies and their relation to the space to others as well as where their eyes are looking. Students are taught that when their bodies are turned into the group they are working as part of the group and that when their body is not in the group or turned out of the group that they are not part of the group. Eyes need to be are looking at the speaker.

19Smart and Wacky Guess(both groups)

20A smart guess is when you make a small guess based on information that you have already learned or know. (These are also called inferences, predictions and educated guesses)

21A wacky guess is when we do not have good information and we have to make a guess with no real solid clues.

READING SOMEONES PLAN- both groups READING SOMEONES PLAN: *01/15/12We use this term to teach the students the importance of knowing how to observe another person and infer what is going to happen next.

We teach the importance of observing other students in order to figure out what they are planning to do next based on the actions on their body

*e.g. walking towards refrigerator and holding their hand out towards the door means the person is likely to open it to get food or drink24

28Using a voice volume of 1 is silence. When a person speaks at a level one volume there is no sound. We sometimes need to have a no talking voice.

29

We use a LEVEL 1 voice when

My teacher is talkingWhen my friends are talking to meSometimes in the librarySometimes in the movie theaterA level 1 voice means there is no TALKING.30We use a LEVEL 5 voice when

When there is a fireWhen in dangerWhen you or someone is seriously hurtA level 5 voice means you are using a very LOUD tone.

35Big problems- a problem that involves a lot of people, that can last for days, weeks, and months. It is a problem that can involve physical danger, injury or death.

Small problems (glitches)- a problem that involves one to two people, it lasts minutes. It is a problem that kids can solve themselves or just ignore the problem.

This teaches the students that there are big problems and small problems (glitches). We want the students to learn that different problems require different reactions, emotions and solutions based on their size. 01/15/12 What is the Size of the Problem?(Transition Group)

GOOD THOUGHTS

UNCOMFORTABLE THOUGHTS

53

GOOD THOUGHTSOthers have thoughts on us based on what we do and say. When a person has a good thought, it means that we figured out how to act in that place with that person. When others have a good thought about us, they feel good too and may remember how we make them feel.54UNCOMFORTABLE THOUGHTS

Others can have uncomfortable thoughts about us based on what we do and say.

When a person has an uncomfortable thought, it means that we didnt figure out how to act in that place with that person.

When others have uncomfortable thoughts about us, they dont feel good about us and may remember how we make them feel.55Crying when you loose a game.

56Helping a friend.

57The Zones of Regulation(both groups)

58What are the Zones of Regulation? It is a curriculum to help us gain skills to regulate our actionsIt helps us learn how to solve problems in an expected wayIt helps us learn how to control our reactions when we are feeling like we will lose controlIt helps us learn self-regulationThere are 4 zones: Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red

59This is when you have a low level of alertness, you are not paying attention, and are not very excited. Your body and/or brain is moving slowly or sluggishly.

The Blue Zone

60This is a state of alertness. Like a green light, you are good to go. This is the zone you need to be in for schoolwork and for being social. Being in the green zone shows control.

The Green Zone

61When you are in the Yellow Zone, proceed with caution and slow down! This is when you start to lose control. It is a good idea to use caution when you are in the Yellow Zone.

The Yellow Zone

62The Red Zone is reserved for extreme emotions. When you are in the Red Zone, you are out of control, have trouble making good decisions, and must STOP!The Red Zone

63Lesson 1:Creating Wall Posters of the ZonesCan you categorize all the ways we feel and act into four zones?Listen to The Way I FeelGuess the characters emotions and which zone the character is in.Glue each emotion on your Wall Poster by zone.Have you ever felt these emotions? If so, when?

64Lesson 1:Follow-up QuestionsHow are you feeling right now?

What Zone are you in now?

The Blue ZoneThe Green ZoneThe Yellow ZoneThe Red Zone65Lesson 1:Act It OutPick a picture from the container (dont show anyone the picture).

Act out the picture you chose.

Pick someone to say what Zone you are in.

The Blue ZoneThe Green ZoneThe Yellow ZoneThe Red Zone

66Lesson 2:Zones BingoGuess my facial expressionWe are playing Zones bingo to practice recognizing facial expressions and to discover new emotions.Get a Zones Bingo paperListen for the emotion named and find the picture that goes with that emotionIf you dont remember the emotion, ask the person next to you to demonstrate the facial expression of that emotion.Keep marking the emotions until someone calls BINGO!Explain why it is important to know what someones facial expression means so you can tell what other people are thinking and feeling. A facial expression gives a clue to what other people may be thinking so that we can adjust how we are acting based on that information.67Lesson 3:The Zones in VideoHave you ever considered how the zone you are in can impact people who are nearby?

You will get Zone color coded sticks

Watch the movie clips and think about what zone the character is in

Raise the colored stick that represents the appropriate zone

68Lesson 4:The Zones in MeWhen is a time when you were in the Blue Zone? Green Zone? Yellow Zone? Red Zone?Pick a scenario from the container.Which Zone is expected for that situation?Go to the Zone color for that situation.69Team Building(both groups)
