PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE RULESAPPLYING TO DOG SHOWSCHAPTER 16, SECTION 6 – CHAMPIONSHIPS

The AKC Board has endorsed the followingamendment to CHAPTER 16, Section 6, ofthe Rules Applying to Dog Shows, based on aproposal by the Delegate Dog Show RulesCommittee. This will be voted on at the June13, 2017 Delegates Meeting.

CHAPTER 16

SECTION 6. Champions of Record and dogswhich have completed the requirements for achampionship but whose championships areunconfirmed that are entered in Best of Breedcompetition are eligible for Grand Champi-onship competition. Grand Championshippoints may be recorded for: Best of Breed orBest of Variety of Breed, Best of Opposite Sexto Best of Breed or Best of Variety of Breed,Select Dog, and Select Bitch.

Grand Championship points will berecorded according to the number of eligibledogs competing in the regular and non-regu-lar (eligible for Best of Breed/Variety) classesof each breed or variety, as well as dogs com-

peting in Best of Breed competition, accord-ing to the Schedule of Points established bythe Board of Directors.

• Grand Championship Points will not beawarded for competition beyond Best of Breedor Best of Variety of Breed competition.

• Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, and Non-Regular Class winners that are not conforma-tion Champions, are not eligible for GrandChampionship points.

Grand Championship points for a dogawarded Best of Breed or Best of Variety ofBreed shall count all eligible dogs of bothsexes entered in Best of Breed or Best of Vari-ety of Breed competition in addition to thedogs that competed in the regular and non-regular (eligible for Best of Breed/Variety)classes for both sexes in calculating GrandChampionship points.

The AKC Board has endorsed the followingamendment based on an amendment broughtforward by the Beagle Advisory Committee toChapter 9, new Section 3 and Section 5, of theBeagle Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedures,to be voted on at the June 2013, 2017 Dele-gates Meeting.

CHAPTER 9. DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES ANDCHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS.

(New) SECTION 3. Licensed Derby Stakes.A Beagle association or federation may, attheir option, offer one licensed derby stakeper calendar year. The licensed derby stakemay be held in conjunction with a licensedfield trial or may be a stand-alone event. If thelicense derby stake is held as a stand-aloneevent, the normal event application fee shallapply. All Rules applying to Beagle Field Trialsshall apply to the Derby classes.

To be eligible to participate in a Derbyclass, a dog must meet the definition of aDerby dog as specified in the Standard Proce-dures, Sanctioned Beagle Field Trials sectionprovided later in this book.

SECTION 5. Field Champion Title Require-ments. The total number of wins and champi-onship points necessary for a Beagle to berecorded a Field Champion by the AmericanKennel Club shall be established by the Boardof Directors of the American Kennel Club.The wins and points may be acquired in boththe 13 inch and 15 inch classes.To be recorded a Field Champion, a hound of must

have won three first places and 120 points in classeswith not less than six starters at licensed or memberfield trials. No more than one first place and 40points earned in derby stakes may count toward theField Champion title.

The FC only stake may beheld in conjunction with a club’s regular trialor may be held as a stand-alone trial. A clubshall offer no more than two stand-alone FConly trials per calendar year. The FC onlytrial(s) can be offered in addition to the club’stwo regular field trials. If a club chooses tohold a stand-alone FC only trial, the regulartrial application fee shall apply. All Rules ap-plying to Beagle Field Trials shall apply to FConly classes unless otherwise specified in thissection.

To be eligible to participate in a FC onlystake, a dog must have been recorded as a FCaccording to AKC records.

(New) SECTION 7. Grand Field ChampionTitle Requirements. A dog that has beenrecorded as a Field Champion according toAKC records shall be eligible to earn the GrandField Champion (GFC) title. Placements andpoints toward the GFC title shall be earned instakes open to Field Champions only. To earn aGFC title, a dog must be awarded a minimum oftwo first placements and 90 points from FC onlystakes. Points shall be calculated in the samemanner as used for the FC title. The GFC titlewill appear in front of the FC title on a dog’s

pedigree. Dogs that have earned the GFC titlemay continue to compete in order to earn GFCnumeric titles (GFC2).

The sections following these shall be renumbered.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE FIELD TRIALRULES AND STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR RETRIEVERSCHAPTER 14, Section 4, second paragraph

The AKC Board has endorsed the followingamendment which was brought forward by theRetriever Advisory Committee, to Chapter 14,Sections 4, second paragraph – Rules for Re-triever Field Trials, to be voted on at the June2013, 2017 Delegates Meeting.

Chapter 14. Rules for Retriever Field TrialsSection 4.

(2nd paragraph)

In any stake carrying championship pointsthe Judges shall impose a system of rotationthat will be applicable to all contestants andwill take effect immediately following the com-pletion of the first series. Stakes not carryingchampionship points (Derby and Qualifying)may also implement this rule if the trial givingclub opts to do so and has clearly advertised itsintention in the trial’s premium list. The ob-jective of rotation is to spread the burden orbenefit of running early equitably among thecompeting dogs. The Judges shall select theparticular system of rotation or be used, andthe system selected shall be publicly an-

nounced by the Judges and/or Marshal beforethe commencement of the stake to which therotation will apply.

As a re-sult, it should be understood that any suchcorrespondence will be made available, uponrequest, to the judge or judge applicant.
