The Buyer's exclusive remedy for breach of this warranty shall be the repair or replacement, F.O.B. factory, at the Company's option, of any product defective under the warranty which is returned to the Company within one year from the date of shipment. NO OTHER WARRANTY, WHETHER EXPRESS OR ARISING BY OPERATION OF LAW, COURSE OF DEALING, USAGE OF TRADE OR OTHERWISE IMPLIED, SHALL EXIST IN CONNECTION WITH THE COMPANY'S PRODUCTS OR ANY SALE OR USE THEREOF. Application

Theprimarypurposeofanycutoutistoprovideprotectiontothelinesofyoursystemandthevariousapparatusonthoselinessuchastransformersandcapacitorbanks.ChanceTypeCcutoutsprovidereliableprotectionfromlow-leveloverloadsthatjustmeltthefuselink,intermediatefaults,andveryhighfaults,throughmaximuminterruptcapacity.

Inaddition,TypeCcutoutscanalsobeusedasasectionalizingdevice.Withtheuseofaportableloadbreaktool,TypeCcutoutscanfunctionmuchlikeanoverheaddisconnectswitch.A300ampdisconnectbladeisalsoavailableforthispurpose.

Ratings/Specifications

STANDARDTypeCcutoutshavemaximumdesignvoltagerat-ingstosimplifytheconfusingratingsofcutouts.Thereareno restrictionsonapplicationtogroundedwye,ungroundedwye,ordeltasystemshavingmaximumoperatingvoltages(line-to-line)equaltoorlessthanthecutoutmaximumdesignvoltagerating.(SeetheLINKBREAKandLOADBREAKcutoutsfortheirspecifications.) Interruptiontestshavebeenperformedatfullsystemline-to-linevoltage.Ineachvoltageclass,therearecontinuouscurrentratingsof100amps,200ampsand300amps.Seethetableonpage6forotherspecifications.

Insulators

TheinsulatorsusedonTypeCcutoutsareasky-glazegray.Themetal tometal leakagedistanceon the15kVcutoutinsulatoris8.7inches(220mm),12.6inches(320mm)onthe27kV[125kVLIW(BIL)],17.3inches(440mm)onthe27kV[150kVLIW(BIL)],26inches(660mm)onthe36kV[170kVLIW(BIL)],and28.4inches(720mm)onthe36kV[170kVLIW(BIL)].

Fuseholders

Thesolidcaponthesingleventfuseholderisacopperalloy,silver-platedtoprovideefficientcurrenttransfer.Anintegralringisprovidedinthetoptubecastingforopeningandclos-ingthefuseholderwithconventionaldisconnecttoolsfromtheground,fromabuckettruckorfromthepole.

Thetoggle type trunnion casting isaselectivesilver-plated bronze for efficient current transfer to the lowerhingecontacts.Acamshapedprojectiononeachsideofthetrunnion casting provides high pressure parallel currentpathstothelowercontacts.Theseprojections,orpivotpins,are cast full round for smoothrotationaloperation in thehinge. The link ejector assists in arc interruption duringlowfaultcurrentorexcessiveoverloadconditions.Agrooveinthecenterofthelinkejectorallowsthefuselink’spigtailtogodirectlyfromthefusetubetotheattachmentnut.Acurvedejectorminimizesbendingstressesinthepigtailtopreventbrokenstrands.Astainlesssteeltorsionspringonthelinkejectorhelpstorapidlyejectthelinkfromtheboreof the fuseholder during interruption. The 200 amp linkejectorhasawidergrooveareaandincreasedspringforcetoaccommodatethelargerlinks.

Thelink ejector ispinnedtothetrunnioncastingwithastainlesssteelpintoprovideresistancetocorrosiveelementsandprovidesmoothpivotalaction.Aninterlockingfeaturebetweenthelinkejectorandtubecastingpreventsexcessivetensiononthefuselinkduringclosure,therebypreventinglinkbreakage.

Thelink ejectoremploysahammereffecttoenhancetoggleactionofthetrunnionduringlowfaultandoverloadinter-ruptions,hencedropoutactionisenhanced.Thelinkejectorprovides sufficient surface area to facilitate re-fusing bylinemenwearinggloves.

Quality ConstructionEfficient Current Transfer

TheChanceTypeCcutouthasanallcoppercurrentpath.Allcontactsaresilver-plated.Terminalsaretin-platedbronzeforusewithcopperoraluminumconductors.

Loadbreak Hooks

GalvanizedsteelhooksarestandardonallTypeCcutouts,exceptthearcchuteversion,forusewithaportableloadbreaktool.Thesesturdyhooksaremountedonthetopsupportandservetoguidethefuseholderintothelatchsocketwhenclos-ingatanoff-centerangle.

Top Contact

Thetopcontactisattachedtothegalvanized-steelhoodbyastainlessrivettoprovideasmoothself-aligningactionduringclosingeveninseverelycorrosiveenvironments.Thetopcon-tactprovidesasocket-typecavityforlatchingthefuseholderandpreventsanypossible“over-travel”ofthefuseholder.Thetopcontactismadeofahighlyconductivecopperstripwithsilver-platedembossmentstoresistcorrosion.Thecontactsareheldunderconstantpressuredesignedtomaintainfirmcontactwiththefuseholdercontactsurfaceuntilfaultinter-ruptionisaccomplished.

Hinge

ThehingeontheTypeCcutoutemployslargepivotareasforthefuseholder’strunnionandiscastofacopperalloychosenforitsstrengthandcorrosionresistance.Thehingecontactsarehighlyconductivecopperalloystampingsandareplatedtoassurelowresistancecurrenttransferfromthetrunnioncasting.Theparallelcurrentpathsarebackedupbyhighstrengthcantileverspringsandarerivetedtothehingecast-ings.Fuseholdercanbedroppedintoplaceandeasilyliftedupandout.Notrickymaneuvering.

Type C STANDARD Cutout

Chance Type C fuseholders are also mutually interchangeable with the S & C Electric Company’s Type XS cutout.

FusetubeThe1/2-inchinsidediameteroftheTypeCcutout’s100amperefusetube increases internal pressure giving superior andreliable expulsion action. During frequently encounteredintermediatefaultrangesthisdiameteralsopermitshigherTRV(transientrecoveryvoltage)valuestobetolerated.Thissmall bore design eliminates any concern related to highimpedancephase-to-phase faults onungroundedwyeanddeltasystems.

The inside liner is constructedof a syntheticarc-quench-ingmaterial.Thetubeismadeoffiberglasswhichpermitsthesmallerboreandprovidesahigherburststrength.Itisprotectedfromtheweatherandenvironmentbyaspecialultra-violetresistantcoating.

Also,theChancefusetubeoperateswithfuselinksfromallmajorsuppliers.

BracketsCcutoutscomepackedonepercartonincludingaNEMAHeavyDuty“B”bracketwithcaptive11/2"boltforcrossarmmounting.

TypeXbrackets,alsoforcrossarmmounting,provides25/8"additionalclearancebetweenthecrossarmandthecutout.

“D” brackets are used to mount cutouts and/or arrestersdirectlytothepole.Threebracketsmaybeusedforthree-phaseapplication.TypeDbracketsprovideaclean,quickmountingwithoutcrossarmorspecialpolebands.

Alltheabovebracketsaregalvanizedsteelforlonglastingservice.Cutoutscanbeorderedwithoutanybrackets.

Higher Interrupt CapacitiesByusingacopperarcshorteningrodinsidethetopofthefusetube, higher interrupt ratings are obtainable.An arcshorteningrodisattachedtothecapofsomefusetubesandlowers the fuse link within the fusetube. This permits amuchshorterarc,resultinginlessarcenergy,andhigherinterruptingcapacities.

For200Atubes,itallowsforfullvoltagerating.

Itisnecessarytousefuselinkswithremovablebuttonheadswhenarcshorteningrodsareemployed.

TheTypeCLoadbreakCutoutisavailableforapplicationon15,25and35kVdistributionsystems.Theadditionofthearc chuteexpands theflexibility of theChanceprotectivedevicesfamilybyprovidingloadbreakcapabilityforcutoutsanddisconnectsolidbladeunits.Theloadbreakcutoutpro-videsshortcircuitprotectiontoutilitylineswiththeaddedfeatureofaloadbreakingfunction.

The loadbreak cutout is applicable for transformer andcapacitorbankswitchingorlinesectionalizing.Loadbreakcutoutsprovideprotectionfromoverloadsthatjustmeltthefuselink through the maximum interrupt capacity of thefuseholder.Theyalsoprovideloadbreakcapabilitythrough300amperes.

Design

AlldesignfeaturesandmostcomponentsoftheloadbreakunitareidenticaltothoseincorporatedintheTypeCstan-dardcutout.TheloadbreakportionoftheTypeCLoadbreakcutoutisaheavyduty,reliableloadinterrupterthatprovidesapositivevisibleloadbreak.AcommonloadbreakmountingassemblywillaccepttheChanceTypeC100ampand200amploadbreakfuseholdersora300amploadbreakdiscon-nectblade.

Ratings/Specifications

The15kVTypeCloadbreakcutouthasamaximumdesignvoltageratingof15kV.Therearenovoltagerestrictionsonapplicatontogroundedwye,ungroundedwye,ordeltasys-temshavingmaximumoperatingvoltages(linetoline)equaltoorlessthanthecutoutmaximumdesignvoltagerating.

The15/27and20/34.5kVTypeC loadbreakcutoutshavemaximumdesignslantvoltageratings.Thesecutoutsaretobeusedonsystemswhichhavephase-to-groundvoltagesnogreaterthanthevaluelistedtotheleftoftheslant(/)andwhichhavephase-to-phasevoltagesnogreaterthanthevaluelistedtotherightoftheslant.

Fuseholders and mounting assemblies from other manu-facturers' loadbreakcutoutsarenot interchangeablewithChance loadbreak cutouts. Likewise, Chance fuseholdersandmountingsarenot interchangeablewithothermanu-facturers'loadbreakcutouts.

Operation

Theself-containedloadbreakdeviceenablesthelinemantointerruptloadcurrentbymeansofasimplehookstickopera-tion.Tobreakthecurrent,thelinemaninsertsahookstickintotheoperatingringandrapidlyopensthedevice.Uponopening, a spring-loaded stainless steel blade mechanismsnapsoutthroughagrayarcchuteandelongates,coolsandextinguishestheconfinedarc.Theloadbreakingoperationisindependentoftheoperatingspeedofthelineman.Thefuseremainsundamaged.Nospecialorportabletoolsarerequiredtooperatetheunit.Intheopenposition,thefuse-holderorbladehangsinanapproximateverticalpositionforthevisible-break.
