2. Submit shop drawings for the entire system (including power supply, data acquisition

and monitoring system. Include wiring diagrams, point to point diagrams, mounting details, computer logic diagrams for the proposed acquisition and monitoring software and schematic diagrams for the entire system. Shop drawings must be approved prior to fabrication.

3. Submit sample reports demonstrating the presentation of reporting that may be

anticipated by the owner.

4. Maintenance Requirements: After installation, furnish an operational and maintenance manual for the entire acoustic and or vibration monitoring system, which shall include the manufacturer’s literature, operation instructions, control diagrams, wiring diagrams, maintenance instructions and requirements, manufacturer’s parts list, complete list of parts and supplies, and operating diagrams.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Acceptance testing shall be carried out before the installation is considered complete. The

acceptance testing methods shall be outlined in the installation manual with results of the test being supplied to the owner and its’ designated representative.

B. Codes and Standards:

1. Electrical Code Compliance: Comply with all applicable local electrical code requirements for the authority having jurisdiction and 2014 NEC as applicable for installation of the system.

2. NECA Compliance: Comply with the National Electrical Contractors Association’s “Standard for Installing and Maintaining” pertaining to anchors, fasteners, hangers, supports and equipment mounting.

1.4 STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Handle all components carefully to prevent damage. Do not install damaged components. Any damaged components shall be immediately removed from the site. All damaged components shall be replaced with new components. All system components shall be stored in a clean dry space and per the supplier’s recommendations or directions.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS 2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

A. The James K. Polk Building is an 18 story structure in downtown Nashville. The structural system James K. Polk Building SBC NO. ___________ 16450 - 2

for the building is unique, in that the structural steel columns and beams at the outer perimeter are suspended from the ends of triangular trusses at the roof level. These trusses extend from a post-tensioned concrete roof deck located over the central rectangular cast-in-place concrete core of the building. The 5 attached structural drawings illustrate the framing details at the top of the structure where the proposed monitoring system is to be installed.

B. The agency awarded this contract shall provide a system that will continually monitor the existing

post-tensioned truss anchorage and roof framing system for at the agency’s option acoustic anomalies and/or unusual floor vibrations. The scope of service shall include the assembly, deployment, testing, maintenance, data collection, and reporting unusual events to the owner for further evaluation.

C. The proposed vibration monitoring system may at the agency’s option include the following:

1. A total of 16 single-axis accelerometers, such as , PCB 353-B33 or Endevco Isotron 43A or equal set to record each event that exceeds a preset trigger threshold and mounted at the following locations:

a. At the core structure roof level slab, attach 8 accelerometers to the underside of the concrete slab shown in Figure 1. This would consist of 1 at each corner, 1 at the middle of both long sides, and 2 in the middle region of the slab.

b. At the perimeter of the building roof level, attach 8 accelerometers to the underside of the deck as shown in Figures 2 and 3. This would consist of 1 at each corner and 1 at the middle of each side.

c. Remote access to the system would be maintained through a self-contained cellular modem. The modem can either be a combination of gateway and modem, such as a Novatel USB551L in a Cradlepoint router or a self-contained system, such as an Airlink Raven XE by Sierra Wireless.

D. Optionally the agency may propose an acoustic monitoring system or an alternate vibration

monitoring system. The data acquisition system should scan all sensor channels simultaneously at a minimum rate of 10 kHz and trigger to capture waveform files with a minimum duration of 1 second. An example of a suitable system is a National Instruments cRIO Model 9064 chassis with four (4) NI-9234 C-series modules. Another option is a National Instruments CompactDAQ chassis with National Instruments Model NI-9234 C-series modules controlled by a laptop computer.

E. The proposed system shall be capable of detecting excessive vibratory and/or acoustical events. The system will continuously monitor and measure vibrations and acoustic anomalies at selected locations. The system will provide a means of immediately notifying the owner and/or its appointed representative of any vibratory or acoustical anomalies. The system shall be capable of identifying the source location of the anomaly so that it can be evaluated by qualified personnel.

F. Installation cost shall include but not be limited to furnishing and installing the wiring for the

monitoring system suitable for the temperature, conditions, and locations. Any conduit for electrical wiring shall be corrosion resistant and approved for electrical use.

G. Upon completion of installation of all wiring, cabling electrical boxes, and equipment shall beproperly grounded in accordance with NEC.

2.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Testing:

1. Prior to energizing, the contractor shall check the installed wires, cables, andtransmission media for electrical continuity and for short circuits. The testing shallconform to the International Electrical Testing Association Acceptance Testing Standards. All power circuits supplying the receptacles shall be tested for continuity, grounds, shorts, and impedance with a circuit analyzer. The supply conductors shall be given acontinuity test and an insulation test.

2. All cable and system components shall be inspected at the project site to ensure allcomponents are not damaged.

3. Once complete system is installed, the system shall be tested to verify the signal quality,to verify that appropriate trigger thresholds are set so that normal activities will nottrigger notice of a normal event, and to verify that all remote communications areoperational.

PART 3 – MEASUREMENT

3.1 BASIS OF MEASUREMENT

A. The scope of work described in this specification section shall be broken down and measured based on the following:

1. Item 16950.1 – Furnish vibration and/or acoustic monitoring system including all labor, material, equipment, tools, and all incidental work involved in furnishing the system to the job site.

2. Item 16950.2 – Installation and testing of the monitoring system including all labor, materials, tools, and all incidental work involved in the installation of the system including removal and repairs to existing finishes.

3. Item 16950.3 – Provide training and site supervision of installation and system testing by independent contractor.

4. Item 16950.4 – Provide monitoring, maintenance and event reporting of the monitoring system for a period of 5 years after the system’s installation is complete. Include all labor, materials, equipment, tools, and incidental work that may be involved in the real time monitoring and reporting necessary data transmitted by the system. This should include
