To receive reimbursement for projects funded with DATCP cost-sharing, you must provide a watershed codes that identifies the location of each cost-shared practice. When requesting reimbursement for nutrient management cost-sharing, use the watershed code associated with the largest number of cost-shared acres covered by the plan. Use DNR’s Web Mapping Applications 1. Access DNR Surface Water Data Viewer conducting a “Wisconsin Watershed Search” using this DNR website, http://dnr.wi.gov/water/watershedsearch.aspx and entering the county (circled in red) where the project is located. 2. After clicking the “Search” Button, the screen will display the watersheds in the county. Find the “Watershed Name” that is nearest the project site and click on the link to the corresponding “Watershed Code” (circled in red). In this case, the site address is between 10200 and11006 Viebahn Road in Manitowoc County and the Code of MA02 has been selected for Lower Manitowoc River. This will take you to DNR Surface Water Data Viewer to display the watershed.

2.3 Watershed Code Guidance

Follow the instructions below to locate DNR watershed codes. To receive reimbursement for projects

Use DNR’s Web Mapping Applications

1. Access DNR Surface Water Data Viewer conducting a “Wisconsin Watershed Search” using this

DNR website, http://dnr.wi.gov/water/watershedsearch.aspx and entering the county (circled in red)

where the project is located.

2. After clicking the “Search” Button, the screen will display the watersheds in the county. Find the

“Watershed Name” that is nearest the project site and click on the link to the corresponding

“Watershed Code” (circled in red). In this case, the site address is between 10200 and11006 Viebahn

Road in Manitowoc County and the Code of MA02 has been selected for Lower Manitowoc River.

This will take you to DNR Surface Water Data Viewer to display the watershed.

3. The screen for Surface Water Data Viewer will display the watershed as well as surrounding

watersheds. By using the navigation tools such as “Pan” and Zoom In and Out” (circled in

red), you can zero in the property where the project site is located. As another option, skip to

Step 6 and follow the instructions for finding a specific location.

4. This manual search can be improved by turning on the “Air Photo” layer by clicking on the

“Layers” (circled in red) and checking on the “Air Photos” box (circled in green).

5. Though this method, the project site on Viebahn Road is visually identified for the map as

being located in the adjacent watershed, and the correct Watershed Name, Sevenmile and

Silver Creeks, is identified. Use the table in this guidance to obtain the correct code for

Sevenmile and Silver Creeks, which is MA02.

6. To avoid the manual search method in steps 3-5, when you reach step 3, select the “Locate &

Identify” tab located on the menu bar (circled in green) and then click on “Find Location”

icon (circled in green).

7. Under “Find Location” panel on the rights side, select the option to identify by “Coordinates

– DMS” (circled in red) and then click on the “Find” button in the lower right corner of the

panel (circled in green). You can locate the site using “Township, Range and Section”

feature. Note: You may need to slide the bar in the panel to the down to access the “ Find”

button. Do not click the “Find Location” button in the legend box

8. Enter the Latitude and Longitude for the location of the Viebahn Road project. In this case,

44°03'55.9"N 87°48'21.5"W. (circled in red) and then click on the “Find” button in the lower

right corner of the panel (circled in green). Google Maps can provide Latitude and

Longitude for any project site clicking on the address of the property.

9. After pressing the “find” button, the map will zoom in on the location you selected, a red dot

will identify the location (circled in green) and the correct Watershed Name will appear in the

map. (circled in red).

10. Right click on the red dot, scan through the options in the popup to find the watershed. The

watershed code appears along with the watershed name.
