Children´s Life• Boys go to school with wooden tablets

covered with wax to write the lesson on it.• After school activities; Train, practice and

excersice wrestling and throwing the discuss. • Also watch older athletes that train to

compete in the Olympic Games.

Life in Public

• All Greek cities had Agoras or public markets.

• The Agora was the busiest and interesting place from each city-state.

• Acropolis was the center of Athens and the Agora the center of public life.

• In the Agora men talked about philosophy and politics.

• All the streets were full of shops.

• Farmers, merchants, artisans, buyers and vendors often sold and buy their basic needs.

• Sold sheep´s wool pottery, hardware, cloth and books.

• Temples and other building such as government, army headquarters, prision etc, were located along the Agora.

Athenian’s Home

• Were plain and made of mud bricks, with rooms around a courtyard.

• The courtyard was the center of the house.

• The rooms were: kitchen, storeroom, dinning room and bedrooms.

• Some houses had bathrooms but they had to carry water from public fountain.

Ancient Greece MealsGreeks ate simple food:• Breakfast: Just bread

• Midday meals: cheese or olives with bread.

• Dinner: Fish and vegetables with cheese, fruits and cakes sweetened with honey.

• Most Athenians ate little meat because there was little space to raise cattle. • Why in Ecuador we have this type of food?

Women in Athens

• Most of the population in Athens were men.• Women were “At Home”.• Women had no freedom for: own property, vote and

participate in politics.• Running home, family, organized spinning and

weaving, food supplies, care of family finances and cared for young people were some chores that women performed.

• If the family owned a slave, the women had to trained and take cared of them.

Slavery in Ancient Greece• In Ancient Greece specially in Athens lived

around 100,000 slaves that were captured in war by soldiers or by pirates while traveling on ships.

• Some slaves were the children of slaves and sometimes they were able to buy their freedom.

Slavery Jobs

• Provided labor on farms.• Dug silver and other metals in mines.• Assisted artissans by making pottery,

constructing building, weapons or armor. • Cooked, served food, tended children and wove

cloth were the chores in a house.• The slaves who worked in mines were the ones

who suffered the most and did not live long.
