Black and white fold-out inlay card featuring the same cover images as the original Silent Records 1987 vinyl LP release (see entry 2:05) except without any text. Text-less sleeve design used on a T-shirt (see entry 10:04). Inside the fold-out inlay is a short text by David Ilic dated May 1995. Important: The tray card text does not mention that Steven Stapleton was involved in the production and mix of Crux. In fact, the final shape of that piece was entirely due to Steven’s efforts. David Jackman offers his apologies to Steven for this unintended omission. The insert sleeve notes state that David Tibet has been a contributor to Organum music. This is incorrect. Tibet has not participated in any Organum recordings. Credits given: As with all Matchless CD releases there is quite a lot of information presented on the back: Flayed features mainly Eddie Prévost on drums, general percussion and acme thunderer whistle. David Jackman added some bowed cymbals and electronic sounds. Ich Reiste Weit Und Verweilte Fur Einigezeit In Tring (9:10) Label Press Release :: Meticulously remastered for truly maximum fidelity, includes material primarily culled from the 'In Extremis' and 'Horii' sessions (12" titles originally released on L.A.Y.L.A.H., 1985/86).. Track 1, 'Valley of Worms', includes the complete B-side (album version) of 'In Extremis' which features Jackman's collaborative work with The New Blockaders. This 20 minute piece is a massive eruption of relentless, burrowing atmospheres that are often disturbing as they are engaging. Track 2, 'Horii', is an alternate version (differing from the 12" release) which features Jackman's collaboration with Andrew Chalk. At over 12 minutes, this piece offers a very bizarre melange of sputtering bowed percussion, homemade woodwinds and voice. Track 3, 'Ich Reiste Weit Und Verweilte Fur Einigezeit In Tring', is a previously unreleased work from 1989 that capsules many of the (purely acoustic) compositional elements associated with the early L.A.Y.L.A.H. sessions. As with 'Volume One', these three dynamic compositions easily represent the raw beauty and intensity of the early Organum sound.

Reissue of the 1987 cassette LP (see entry 4:19) which was, in turn, reissued by Dom in 1989 (see entry 2:08). Pale blue CD with white text came in a clear jewel case (no booklet or tray card). Reissue of the cassette EP titled of the same name, first issues in 1984 on Frux Recordings and later in 1989 on Aeroplane with completely new artwork (see entry 4:20). Label Press Release :: Early collaborative material from 1984. Originally only available as a cassette (released initially by the UK's Frux label, then later on David Jackman's Aeroplane label) in very small editions. Salute is comprised of 8 parts and can be viewed as the first full-length collaboration between Organum and The New Blockaders following the release of the legendary 'Pulp' 7" in 1983. These pivotal sessions, as the title suggests, were landmark recordings. The result was in essence an appreciative 'salute' amongst the collaborators with respect to their individual as well as collective work. This remastered edition is a massive improvement in sound over the rare cassette versions. Not only do the intense tonal textures finally blaze through in their truly maximum form, but the CD edition also allows for an uninterrupted running program.

David Jackman, active since the late sixties as a member of THE SCRATCH ORCHESTRA and later with many solo works and under the name ORGANUM with changing line-up's, was supported on these recordings by some of the main collaborator's during this Organum phase: Dinah Jane Rowe, Jim O'Rourke, Eddie Prevost (AMM), Christoph Heemann (H.N.A.S.), Robert Hampson (Main) as players and Steven Stapleton (NWW) and Peter McGhee in the studio. Most of the recordings on these two CD's show the more contemplative side of the ORGANUM sound, the main characteristic being Jackman's playing of various types of bamboo flutes some of which were actually made by David Jackman. The inside cover features one of the two collages by David Jackman that were used for the original LP sleeve. Cover design by Jonathan Coleclough. Edition of 600 copies in 4panel full color digisleeve. The first 150 copies incl. a poster with the artwork feat. on the back side of the original LP cover.

VACANT LIGHTS: recorded live in the backyard of long-gone IPS Studio, Sherperd's Bush, London. Performed by Dinah Jane Rowe and David Jackman, with Steven Stapleton and Peter McGhee at the controls. Four recordings were made. Two survive and are presented on this CD. Originally released as an LP on Jon Carlson's Dom America label in the late 1980's, the CD version has been carefully re-mastered from the original reels. It was one of the easiest and most trouble-free Organum albums to make. Jane and I went to IPS on a sunny 20 August 1986, did the music in an hour and a half, went home. It was ordinary, a normal day.

RARA AVIS is a short collection of five pieces, three of which have appeared on 7-inch singles: IUEL and WOLF on Dom America, HIBAKUSHA on Walter Robotka's Syntactic label. Jim O'Rourke added guitar to IUEL, Christoph Heemann put some microphone feedback into WOLF. OBON (VERSION), originally recorded way back at IPS, is one of four alternate mixes engineered years later by Robert Hampson and Mr. O'Rourke. RARA AVIS is a previously unused mix created by Jim circa 1991 from sounds made during the AURORA sessions of 1990. Extensively re-worked in 2003, it features Jim, Jane, Eddie Prevost and myself. At the time of writing, Jim and the others have not heard what is in effect a new piece.

Z'EV writes: "Long long ago and far far away... holiday season 1999 & I was in London, & my dear friend Barbara took me to dinner at the house of her friend Olivia -- round the corner & down the block & Olivia had invited her friend David Jackman (aka Organum) there also -- and so we met. Fast forward... it's July 2003 & I'm in London again & will be here for a while so I see if I can hook up w/ Mr. Jackman again. Thus begins a search for the man himself -- thanks here to Brainwashed & Robot Records for facilitating this flow of info -- so we meet one Sunday afternoon in the hottest summer London has ever seen at the Crown & Greyhound for a bit of a chat. The next day Mr. Jackman is going into the studio to record some source for a new series of compositions & invites me by. There am I bright & early (but certainly not bushytailed) at 11 am in the morn (just about the middle of the night for me actually). But anyway. During the some breaks in his process we retire to a most delightful garden behind the studio & chit & chat & get around to a major congruence -- ie, our hearing -- or, in fact, our various lacks of it to be precise and go onto getting into details regarding the intricacies of our varying degrees of tinnitus. That was the impetus behind David offering to give me a copy of the session to dirty my hands w/ -- as I did. Anyway -- one treatment led to another & David came by for dinner & I played him some early results & it seems he was enthused. He came by for dinner again & he heard the initial 4 treatments & so began the talks about this actually becoming a collaborative project that would release product."

Label Press Release :: Following their maxi CD 'Tinnitus Vu' on Touch in 2004 'Tocsin' is the first full length album produced together by these two renowned sound artists. Whereas 'Tinnitus Vu' was mostly the result of Z'ev reworking material by Jackman, 'Tocsin' is the result of the artists agreeing to meet and work together in the studio. They created and recorded sounds from a piano (which can be found at RMS Studios London) and a stainless steel instrument (built by Z'ev circa 1989), over the course of several hours. They then took the recordings home, and after a period of each one mixing these sounds by themselves came up with what can be heard on this CD. Label Press Release :: A four track 3” (mini) CD combining the never released two 10inch's 'Maus' (DS57) and 'Die Hennen Zähne' (DS66). 'Die Hennen Zähne' opens with 'Die Kralle' actually a David Jackman track from his archive recorded in the early 1980's. Next is the title track 'Die Hennen Zähne', a joyful noise not unlike some of the TNB/Organum material incl. the sound of broken glass and Tibetan horns, best to be experienced LOUD. 'Maus' is the centre piece of this mini album and typical 'old school' Organum. Label Press Release :: The first album in a proposed trilogy of new material. Sanctus represents the new architecture of the Organum sound. Recorded utilizing an implicit graphic score, the album is comprised of four discrete parts, each a variant of the others. These are not parts as in a movement or continuation of the composition, but rather four distinct audio canvases that represent a continuum of the elements at large. Composed in the spirit of the early Organum material, David Jackman has resurrected the drone-based, percussive turbulence of earlier years with a distinct new form of compositional systems. These new systems are scored for grand piano, Hammond organ, tower bell, and gong. While each element retains its distinct acoustic quality, the whole of each piece resonates the art of its totality. The results convey an ecstatic sense of presence, vast expanse, and, ultimately, infinitude. Note that the trilogy of release was cancelled at the request of David Jackman.
