Clamping Systems Clamping systems are one of the most underrated elements for tool performance. You can have the best machine and the most accurate tool, but if the interface between them is not accurate, you will not get the performance and cut quality you paid for when you invested in either. Clamping systems are most important to high volume operations in the sense that run-out accuracy is the element that allows for high feed rates without compromising product quality. Clamping sys-tems are also just as important to the small artisan woodworker for the opposite reason. Run-out ac-curacy is what gives the higher finish quality required by the custom woodworker without having to spend precious man-hours performing extra sanding operations. This section mostly covers clamping systems for drilling and routing, however, at the end of the sec-tion you will see some examples of quick-change and hydro clamping systems for tenoners, combi-nation edgebanders, and molders.
