Tenderers are advised to study the GP ASC Rev 0(General specifications of materials and methods to beused for building contracts) before pricing the bill. Thedocument is readily available at GDID offices forinspection as and when required.

PREAMBLES FOR TRADES

Supplementary preambles are incorporated in these billsof quantities to satisfy the requirements of this project.Such supplementary preambles shall take precedenceover the provisions of the said Model Preambles

The contractor's prices for all items throughout thesebills of quantities must take account of and include forall of the obligations, requirements and specificationsgiven in the said Model Preambles and in anysupplementary preambles

Clause 8.0 is deemed to be amended by the addition ofthe new clause 8.8 and 8.9:

8.8 Unless specifically stated to the contrary, wheretrade names have been used in the tender documentsto specify materials and goods, this has been done withthe sole purpose of indicating the standard and qualityrequired by the principal agent. The contractor shall befree to supply those of other manufacturers or suppliersprovided that they match the standard and qualityrequired. The onus shall be on the contractor to provethat the materials and goods supplied by him are ofsimilar standard and quality to those specified.

8.9 The risks for loss or damage to the works resultingfrom such materials and goods and for latent defects insuch materials and goods shall be that of the contractor,whether the materials and goods as specified orotherwise are supplied. Where it is specifically statedthat no other trade name will be acceptable then theabove mentioned risks will remain with the employer.

10.12 Damage to the Works(a) Without in any way limiting the contractor'sobligations in terms of the contract, the contractor shallbear the full risk of damage to and/or destruction of theworks by whatever cause during construction of theworks and hereby indemnifies and holds harmless theemployer against any such damage. The contractorshall take such precautions and security measures andother steps for the protection and security of the worksas the contractor may deem necessary

(b) The contractor shall at all times proceed immediatelyto remove or dispose of any debris arising from damageto or destruction of the works and to rebuild, restore,replace and/or repair the works

(c) Where the employer bears the risk in terms of thiscontract, the contractor shall, if requested to do so,reinstate any damage or destroyed portions of the worksand the costs of such reinstatement shall be measuredand valued in terms of 32.0 hereof

10.13 Injury to Persons or loss of or damage toProperties(a) The contractor shall be liable for and herebyindemnifies the employer against any liability, loss, claimor proceeding whether arising in common law or bystatute, consequent upon personal injuries to or thedeath of any person whomsoever arising out of or in thecourse of or caused by the execution of the worksunless due to any act or negligence of any person forwhose actions the employer is legally liable

(b) The contractor shall be liable for and herebyindemnifies the employer against any liability, loss, claimor proceeding consequent upon loss of or damage toany moveable or immovable or personal property orproperty contiguous to the site, whether belonging to orunder the control of the employer or any other body orperson, arising out of or in the course of or by reason ofthe execution of the works unless due to any act ornegligence of any person for whose actions theemployer is legally liable

(c) The contractor shall, upon receiving a contractinstruction from the principal agent, cause the same tobe made good in a perfect and workmanlike manner athis own cost and in default thereof the employer shallbe entitled to cause it to be made good and to recoverthe cost thereof from the contractor or to deduct thesame from amounts due to the contractor

(d) The contractor shall be responsible for the protectionand safety of such portions of the premises placedunder his control by the employer for the purpose ofexecuting the works until the issue of the certificate ofpractical completion

(e) Where the execution of the works involves the risk ofremoval of or interference with support to adjoiningproperties including land or structures or any structuresto be altered or added to, the contractor shall obtainadequate insurance and will remain adequately insuredor insured to the specific limit stated in the contractagainst the death of or injury to persons or damage tosuch property consequent on such removal orinterference with the support until such portion of theworks has been completed

(f) The contractor shall at all times proceed immediatelyat his own cost to remove or dispose of any debris andto rebuild, restore, replace and/or repair such propertyand to execute the works

10.14 It is the responsibility of the contractor to ensurethat he has adequate insurance to cover his risk andliability as mentioned in 10.12 and 10.13. Withoutlimiting the contractor's obligations in terms of thecontract, the contractor shall, within twenty-one (21)calendar days of the commencement date but beforecommencement of the works, submit to the employerproof of such insurance policy, if requested to do so

Details: Construction in accordance with the scope ofwork depicted in the bid document and within theboundaries pointed out by the Principal Agent at theJewellery Manufacturing Precinct existing site.

Specific requirements: The noise levels need to bekept at minimum levels. Air pollution needs to bereduced to minimum.

12.1.7 Previous work - dimensional accuracy[3.5] Details:

The contractor shall, after taking possession of the site and before commencing the work, check the existing levels, lines, profiles and the like and satisfy himself as to the dimensional accuracy of all work executed under the previous contract which may affect his work. Should any inaccurate or defective work be found the contractor shall immediately notify the principal agent in writing requesting his instructions with regard thereto and afford every facility to those rectifying such inaccurate or defective work.

12.1.9. Services - known[3.7] Details:

Should the contractor encounter any existing services such as underground cables, pipes or sewer during the execution of the works he shall notify the principal agent immediately and suspend all affected work in the immediate vicinity until instruction to proceed has been given by the principal agent.

12.1.10 Protection of trees[3.9] Specific requirements:

Only those trees and shrubs indicated as such on the drawings shall be removed or cut down. The remainder of the trees and shrubs shall be left undamaged.

12.1.11 Inspection of adjoining properties

Specific requirements: The contractor needs to inspectand take pictures of all the existing buildings close to theworks and report to the Principal Agent of his findings.

12.1.12 Enclosure of the works

Specific requirements: The contractor shall erect,maintain and remove on completion of the works aperimeter hoarding and fence around the site including adanger warning tape.

12.1.13 Offices

Specific requirements: The contractor shall provide,maintain and remove on completion of the works anoffice for the exclusive use of the principal agent, toaccommodate a minimum of 20 seats, suitablyinsulated and ventilated, provided with electric lightingand fitted with boarded floor, desk, chair, drawing stool,drawing board and lock-up drawers for drawings. Theoffice shall be kept clean and fit for use at all times

12.1.14 Main notice board

Specific requirements: The contractor shall provide,erect where directed, maintain and remove oncompletion of the works a notice board size 3 x 3m,constructed of suitable boarding with flat smooth surfaceand with edging bead 19mm thick round outer edgesand projecting 12mm from face of boarding and roundedon front edge. The board shall be securely fixed tohoarding, where hoarding is provided, or fixed to andincluding a suitable supporting structure of timber ortubular posts and braces. The board is to be paintedivory white and the bead and 12mm wide dividing linesdark green. All wording shall be inscribed in dark greenas per the coat of arms for SA. All wording shall beinscribed in dark green painted sans serif lettering
