Out with the new and in with the old. What? Is that how it goes because that seems to be the theme here, right? It looks as if some guys are a little too crazy about their old magazines. But we’re not dwelling in the past. To us, it’s just a little nod to the testament of ideas that worked out, of things that were done right and made well to stand the test of time. It’s a testament to the fact that our first impressions upon riding the longer boards we’d made were correct. People do enjoy riding a little faster, a little smoother and doing nice graceful, arcing turns. In fact, despite the throwback look going on here, we still really enjoy getting out there everyday and trying to progress what we like to call the “left wing” side of the sport of skate-boarding. We call it that because over here on the “left side” we can accept change, like new truck geometries and weird board shapes. We want to make boards that everybody can ride, and we want to raise taxes. Ok... skip that last part. Truly this side of the sport, and what we’re about, is trying to bring modern improvements back into some of the earliest basics of skateboarding and make it fun again for the masses, as well as the pros. A redistribution of the wealth of fun, if you will.

So here’s some breaking news! A lot of people are really into sliding... Way more than we ever thought would be. While sliding may be in some purist opinions, glorified slowing down, it’s allowed riders to tackle steeper terrain and attack corners like never before. The problem is that they all need to carry around slide gloves that look like they’re more suited for an MMA bout than skateboarding. Not to mention that part of the beauty of skate-boarding is that all you need is you and your board. We took this as a personal challenge. While some may not care how they look before, after, or during a sesh, there are others that are always on the prowl or just trying to look their best. We want to help. We came up with a way to incorporate a slide glove set up into the sleeve of some stylish garments. We call this Stealth SlideTechnology (Patent Pending). It’s pretty simple, a completely normal looking cuff of a hoody, flannel or jacket that doubles as a slide glove. Just unfold the cuff and secure it around your hand, pull the puck out of a perfectly sized, concealed pocket, slap it onto it’s hook and loop receiver, and you’re off drifting corners. When you’re done, and you see that perfect specimen of the opposite sex at the bottom of the hill, you don’t have to walk over looking like a sleestack. All you do is put the pucks back in their pockets, roll up your sleeves and cruise over. We’ll leave the master pickup line to you though.

If you haven’t been to a downhill race in awhile you might be in for a surprise. It’s not just that the amount of entrants has blown up tenfold, but also that the average skill level has risen tremendously. This is apparent especially in the younger age groups and girl’s divisions. This has changed the landscape of things considerably and has a lot of the more established competitors pushing harder for developments in boards and components so that they don’t get passed up by a kid wearing braces. So whether you’re into racing or not, your next freeride mission or campus dash can easily be enhanced by the efforts of older guys trying in vain to stave off the next generation.

The Carbonite has everything you need from a high performance freeride board. The Carbon Decay was spawned from the older Carbon Trylam and has the same basic construction but with a high performance makeover. Between the smooth riding suspension of the Stalker trucks and the speed and control provided by the Dual Durometer wheels this board is a freeriding machine. This is the first board in our line to feature both the new 50˚ Stalkers and the Dual Durometer wheels. We feel it’s a combination that was worth waiting for.

If you haven’t noticed, there are some guys putting life and limb on the line on the hills these days. It’s not that they have a death wish or something, because in all honesty these guys take safety very seriously. Rather, the equipment they’re using has gotten progressively better, allowing them to push each other further and further. Just look here for example as Evren is about to shove Louis into the next corner. Seriously, we’ve been paying close attention to these guys and listening (which is a different skill altogether) trying to propel these guys to the next frontier of freeriding. Whether it’s the rockered board with custom foot pockets, or wheels with just a little extra contact, these guys are working (playing) hard so your ride can be smoother.

Sometimes endless possibilities can be intimidating. Such is the fate of our good friend Chad White. One fine summer day at his beloved Malibu (it’s too sacred to him to call it the ‘Bu) he was just rollercoastering along on a three footer as Johnny Boy was paddling by and yelled “Do Something!” This was a terrible notion to Chad who thought he was doing something and with 200 yards still to go, he fell right in the middle of the face. From then on, a weird variety of stage fright brewed within Chad. He started falling at the beggining of perfect pointbreak peelers. He’d take off and lookdown the line at the broad empty canvas with JBG’s “Do something!” ringing in his head, get scared of the limitless opportunities ahead, and just plain eat it. However this helped us, as the door was thrust wide open for Chad to do some artwork for skateboards this summer since all he could handle surfing was closed outHermosa, thus keeping his sessions short. So it’s both his and our hope that through this pencil therapy of drawing out his fears he’ll be able to return to his rightful place at the bottom of the pecking order with his head held high and say to Johnny,“Rollercoasters are maneuvers too!”

With the “bend but never break”mentality in his defense of the ocean and its creatures, DaveRastovich is the perfect represen-tative for bamboo. Also, it’s been rumored that he eats bamboo, but that’s neither here nor there.

Clark Little was born in Napa, California in 1968. Two years later, a move to the North Shore of Oahu (Hawaii) dramatically changed his future. In the 80’s and 90’s he made his name as a pioneer of surfing at the Waimea Bay shorebreak. Clark had a unique talent for taking off on hopeless closeout shorebreak waves and surviving in one piece. In 2007, Clark discovered his ability and passion to capture the extraordinary beauty of the shorebreak when his wife asked him for a picture of the ocean to decorate a bedroom wall. With the confidence of an experienced surfer, Clark jumped in the ocean, and started snapping away, recording the beauty and power of Hawaiian waves. “Clark’s view” is a unique and often dangerous perspective of waves from the inside out, captured in photos for all to enjoy from the safety of dry land.

If you’ve ever been skating and saw a little pocket way up high on a bank and thought you really wanted to slash, but couldn’t because of your board, then these boards are for you. Not only will you get up into that nugget ofslashableness, but you’ll crank a full railer in there and probably stop and do it again a couple more times because it was so fun. Each time you’ll try to get a little farther and a little gnarlier. Speaking of gnarly, if you like tobodysurf or can just appreciate gettingslammed in the shorepound, then through these boards you can enjoy the unique perspective Clark Little gives us by putting himself in places few dare go.

We don’t really make an 8’ 4 x 4 skateboard, but Joel Tudor can ride one. That’s because Joel can ride anything. Not just ride anything, but ride it well, like it was meant to be ridden. So when you see him riding a board that looks like it’s from Home Depot, you can’t help but think “that’s how that board was supposed to be ridden.” The boards in this series are current classics which is also a great way to describe Joel.

It’s hard to tell from these photos but yeah, Tyler Martin is still rocking the chain necklace with the lock on it. That’s just one of the fringe benefits of being able to rip as hard as he does. You can wear something like that, and people can’t say squat. He’s also sportin’ some fresh tats. You can roust him about those though because everyone has tats now. It’s almost a shocker when someone doesn’t have them.
