A. Introduction
Secure Manager is designed for Windows 2K, Windows XP & Vista operating systems
only.
Windows 2000 users, please upgrade to Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Service Pack 4 (SP4)
first before using this security product and application program.
Plug in ON E device at a time. DO NOT plug in two or more secure device at the same time
when running this security application program.
B. General Description
This product is a USB Flash Memory Storage Device with an optional security partition
function. This security function provides you with a high level of password protected privacyon the secure partition for your personal data.
This device allows you to set up your own password (with 1 to 12 characters).
It also allows you to adjust the public and secure partition sizes.
C. Features
(a ) Disk Free - program is stored on the device, so you don’t have to carry the program on a
CD-ROM or floppy disk. Latest Secure Manager upgrades can be found at
www.Imation.com
(b) Easy to Operate – program is pictorial with easy to understand icons and friendly
descriptions.
(c) Customized Password – users can choose their own personal password (1 to 12
characters in length).
(d) Unlimited Password Retry – users are allowed to continue attempts until successful.
(e) Friendly Rem inder – password hint function is available in case the user forgets his/her
password.
D. Before Using Secure Manager
Upon plugging the device into a USB port, your operating system should recognize the device
and display a “Removable Disk” icon. This is the “Public” partition. The security application
program – Secure Manager will be stored in this area. Secure Manager will also be accessible
from the System Tray in the bottom right corner of the screen.
It is recommended to save (copy/paste) the Secure Manager program on to your hard drive in
case the program gets accidentally removed from your flash drive.

Safe Unplug
As with all Flash Drives always use the Safe unplug Icon in the System Tray before
unplugging from the USB port. This will reduce the risk of loss data.
When ready to unplug, close all windows and files on the Flash Drive. Then left click on the
Safe Remove icon.
On most Windows OS except Vista:
The following screen will appear, click on the message.
If the following screen appears it’s safe to unplug the Flash Drive.
If an unsafe message appears verify all windows & files on the Flash Drive are closed, and
attempt to use the Safe Unplug icon again.
On Vista safe unplug can be completed using the System Tray icon or by right clicking onthe USB Disk icon in My Computer, and choosing “Safely Remove”.

The Vista System Tray Safe Removal icon process is the same as other Windows System
Tray Safe Removal.

Double click the Flash Drive icon; this appears as USB Disk (E) on the screen below.

Secure Manager Icon can then be opened from the Flash Drive by double clicking on the
Secure Manager Icon:

F. To Create P artit ion
Click the Partition tab. In the middle of the screen is the Simple format button (no secure
partition.

Uncheck the box by placing your cursor over the box and left cl icking. The Create Password
box turns white – enter your personal password. Enter a hint in the box below if desired.
Then drag the disk ratio size bar to the desired mix of public & secure partition. The
“Partition Information” provides the exact size of each partition.
To create the partition click “Format”. The following screen will appear:

WAR NING!!! Creating a new partition will delete all your saved data, files, etc on the Secu re
& Pub lic Partitions. Save all data from the Flash Drive to your h ard drive or alternative
storage device prior to creating a S ecure Partition!
Note: The Secure Manager file is not deleted from the Public Partition when a new partition
is created.
Click “Partition” to continue. If “Exit” is clicked a partition will not be created.If Partition is chosen, The Format Progress bar on the Main screen will indicate progress.
After the secure partition is created the following screen will appear. Your password will be
displayed. In this example the password is “test”. Click OK; use the Safe Unplug icon (see
above) in the System Tray to safely unplug the device.
G. To Login
Open the Main Screen as defined above. Choose the Login/Logout tab, and type in your
password.

If you provided a hint previously, and have forgotten your password click on the “PasswordHint” button & your hint will appear. If you type in the wrong password you will see the
following message:
Click OK and type in the correct password, as many times as needed to type the correct
password.
If you Forget Your Password:
If you can not type in your correct password to login you can not access the Secure Partition,
and can not access your data. To use the Secure Partition feature after forgetting your
password you will need to create a new partition.
WAR NING!!! Creating a new partition will delete all saved data, files, etc on the Secure &
Public Partitions. Save all data from the Flash Drive to you r hard d rive or alternative storage
device prior to creating a Secure P artition!
Note: The Secure Manager file is not deleted from the Public Partition when a new partition
is created.
After successfully typing in your password and clicking login, the following screen will
appear:

You can now save files in the password protected secure partition.
H. To Logout
To logout right click on the Secure Manager icon in the system tray.
Click on “lock”.
The following screen will appear.
Click on “Logout”

I . To Change Password
Choose the Change Password tab. Type in the old and new password in the white boxes
and retype in the password in the Confirm Password box. The Password Hint is optional.
